oh yeah, johnson said nothing untoward and seemed quite humble - he was 12th man all last season and is next in line...simple as that

that's not to say it's impossible that someone won't jump ahead of him with brilliant form but it is very unlikely - the selectors tend to follow a (successful) process and he seems to have been prepared for Test cricket in their textbook way: one-day exposure, full season of 12th man duties, (possible) debut at home ground

besides i can understand their desire to get some games into him - he ticks a lot of boxes e.g. lefty, 140+ km/h, uses swing, good bouncer, strong arm, marketable

...he's well worth taking a punt on

he wasnt demanding a spot in the side at all... he said that he didnt deserve one because he wasnt ready and learnt from being twelfth man and now feels up to it if picked.

its like if nick riewoldt was out injured and sat out a week and then came back and sed he feels like he is up to playing this week if picked

My favourite bit of the hate campaign is the fact that Mitch can only bowl on the subcontinent.....must be paradise for fast bowlers if such a dud can take wickets there.

Still, I would select Tait in the Test XI if he gets through his next match with a few wickets. His World Cup form was too good to ignore.
 
Mitchell Johnson has had his international career handed to him on a platter so it is lucky he is actually showing a little worth to the side. Really needs to move the ball into the right hander more often or he wont trouble higher quality batsmen(lets face it sri lanka's batting lineup isn't exactly daunting ),then again the selectors views on the value of a left hand paceman ensure that he will be in the side regardless of whether his form warrants it

Johnson's average of 22.97 in ODI's says he warrants a place in the one day team.

if all those drops were taken and the no-ball wickets aswell everyone would be talking how good he is
 
I tend to think that Johnson will struggle consistenly bring the ball into the right hander, i reckon he naturally takes the ball away, i would have him work on his inswinger, but the fact is a left hand bowler angling across who can move the ball late away will keep a slips cordon in business for man a day!
 
I lost faith when it took him 12 balls to get one on the stumps to Malinga on Friday night. Surely if you are supposedly good enough to play for Australia, you are good enough to bowl and hit the stumps
 
Yes, his sterling performance at Perth was followed up by yet another in Adelaide. I found it astonishing that he received some scorn for his Test performances, yet RP Singh, who was more expensive and less effective, received the cricketing equivalent of roses from many for his 'efforts'.

On a side note, does his delivery to bowl Malinga remind anyone of Wasim Akram's delivery to bowl Allan Lamb during the 1992 World Cup? Both seemed to pitch at or just outside off, hold their line and pass the outside edge.

He bowls at express pace, uses the crease well and can move it both ways with the white ball. He also has a mean bouncer and some decent slower balls. All he has to do, really, is work on not firing the odd one out of the side of the hand and also learn to swing the red ball more consistently. If he does that, only his temperament will stop him becoming genuine class.
 
Its funny if you think back to before the Sri Lankan Tests.
Everyone was on about how Tait was so much better than him and how he had done nothing to earn a spot.

It was true Tait was better and Johnson hadn't done anything.

Now Johnson done something at least in ODI's anyway and Tait is soft.
 
i must admit i was one of many saying get him off, but now i think he is a excellent ODI bowler but still medicore test..he can sure make the white ball swing away from the right handers
 
Considering how many critics he has, he has done very well. Ponting showed faith and he is repaying them big time.
 
He is a very good ODI bowler.

Is improving his bowling in Tests, just has no luck with slips catches, if some of those stick, he would have had a couple 5 wicket inns.

Good prospect and can only improve:thumbsu:
