Mitchell Johnson

There's been some good stuff written in this thread but this one pretty much sums up exactly what I think of him.

When batsmen stop slashing at his wide shit he'll stop getting wickets. .

Even the 8 for he got at the WACA against the Saffers was generally suicidal batting to wide tripe.

He's got some incredible deliveries when it all comes together but , for mine, he's exactly the same as North - 1 great innings then 10 failures.

After all it's only our first change bowler we're talking about here. Even Ponting's not stupid enough to waste the new ball on him. He'll stay in the side for a while yet due to the fitness doubts of his main rivals.

I haven't seen Copeland bowl - but his figures thus far are as good as anyones. How quick is he? Reason I ask is I don't rate George - not quick enough for that height IMO, and George seems to be one guy getting a bit of attention.

If there was any doubt in my mind about Johnson keeping his place in the team, it's just been removed with that dropped catch.

Looks like he's about to have a cry.

Much rather Copeland or Harris come in than Bollinger for the next test

We can’t afford to have any passengers in the bowling attack right now. He needs to be told that he’s playing for his spot in the team during lunch.

As an England supporter, Johnson's situation reminds me of Harmison's for England where he was always picked because of his previous hot form (7/12...number 1 bowler in the world etc) but Harmy never quite recaptured that form except for sporadic occasions and he let England down more often that not. I'm not saying Johnson won't recapture his form, i'm just drawing attention to the perceived similarity.

My name is Johnson and i bowl right arm legspin, attacking spinner. I really think CBA selected the wrong johnson.

That's an interesting point, and sadly, I think you may be right.

Also I don't think you can use the strength of his batting to justify his inclusion. 6 ducks from his last 12 innings, average down to 20 odd.

Time to go Mitchy...

Not bowling fast, bowling more accurate but not anything to get excited about. Can't get the seam up to swing it and seam it. Is getting belted and taking no wickets.

They changed his bowling action to try to get him to swing the ball i fear it may of ruined him.

Cooley changed James Anderson's action also because he was worried Jimmy would get a back injury...so what happens? he gets stress fractures of his back using the new action. He was out of the team for quite a while and only got back in cos he reverted to his old ungainly action..now he's bowling better than ever.

In his last 10 Test bowling innings (inclusive, as at the end of yesterday's play) he has taken 11 wickets at an average of 55.6, strike rate of 91.3 and economy rate of 3.65.

The problem is the selectors are picking him based on his 2008 and early 2009 form, that's the thing I don't understand with the selectors, they play players based on their reputation and not their most recent form, cos clearly Johnson shouldn't be playing

The thing that pisses me off about Johnson is his body language, it's so obvious how down he is and it just continues to rub off on his bowling and the rest of the team

Oh this is sad, those 5 wides were a Harmison special, look how round arm he was when he relesed the ball, totally lost the plot now Johnson.
Shocking body language, no confidence, no idea

Bowling average about ot tick over 30.

In fairness to him this isnt his pitch, doesnt have the pace or bounce he requires. But I think he has to go. He's been getting through International Cricket based on bowling short fast and wide, has never during his first class career learnt any sort of swing or seam, and it has unfortunately caught up to him I suspect.

He'll probably knock the tail end over now.
