Very very nice on his home deck. Needs to back up with something in the Boxing Test and not fade away.

Calm down everyone, that's more or less his only decent knock since his 87 on debut...
The runs are less important than the way he's done it. The defensive poise and solidity off the back foot show that he's rectified the problems that were previously his undoing.

Time will tell if he is now a genuine #6, but if he's dropped again it's unlikely to be for the same reasons as last time.

Selectors 3-0 up on the Australian public.

Remarkable stuff. I was quite frankly appalled by his selection, but it sounds like he's sorted out some of his technical problems and now gets his head properly over the bat.

He needs to get another score this series though.

It will be a pity if Marsh is recalled, apart from not being a test cricketers shoelace he is a flog with a head only a mother could love.
Watching him fail will however make the test more enjoyable.
Oh my.

Smith was just as dangerous in his 3 overs, not expecting much with MMarsh with the bat, that is his worst area. If he isn't getting wickets, he's fairly useless.

Been at him since he was even in thr discussion, despite having piled on 141 and 98 at the WACA in shield this year, might be time for you to raise a slight golf clap.

A lot of gloating going on in here, it is a road where 3 players have scored career high batting performances that will dwindle down to a meaningless draw barring England folding like a deck of cards.

Good on him for scoring some runs and locking in a spot for a while, selectors still failed until he gets some wickets with the ball as they suggested he was brought in to do.

That's weird reasoning. If the all-rounder does one of his skills to the maximum, that's more than enough of a win for the selectors.

Lol.

And bat 6. Anyone who has watched his improvement knew he was due.

Couldnt happen to a better bloke.

They didn't bring him in to bat, they brought him in to bowl overs or they were sticking with handscomb. That was what we were told all week prior to the game, good on him but in no way am I patting the selectors on the back.

Shit call.

Wow.

Allrounder who bought into bolster tiring pace battery on good batting deck, happens to crack 180 no...

"Still a bad selection"

Mate he wasn't brought in as a strike bowler, he was brought in to take the weight off the other bowlers by pitching in a bit, as well as being capable to bowl if one goes down injured

The selectors thought they wouldn't lose too much batting by shifting from Handscomb to him and in this case they were vindicated

Freo Big Fella Congrats...

This will be bumped when shit hits the fan.
Batted well today, no question. The premature fapping as if he's made it is laughable.

When he proves he's not merely Watson 2.0 then we'll talk.

The reality is that Marsh is comfortably one of the (if not the) most prodigious talents we have nationally not yet entrenched in the Test side.

He has been poor up to this point. Why? Well, a variety of factors. Being selected when he wasn't worthy, match situations when he came in to bat, injuries, big lapses in confidence and also technique.

His performance today shouldn't come as a huge surprise (though it does due to the above factors), especially to those who have seen his work growing up. Has always been a cut above most levels developing and found it difficult initially stepping up into the big leagues. No big shame in that.

The challenge now is to back it up and become the world-class all rounder he is certainly capable of. At least he should have some support now.

Went back to the Shield, made runs. Back in the test side, made runs.

He's doing everything the selectors are asking of him - obviously you won't be satisfied unless he averages 60+ with the bat and under 25 with the ball, but thankfully the opinion of flogs on the Cricket Board doesn't carry that much weight.

Yeah you mad.
Never said average 60+ just be a consistent performer. His ton on a flat deck today doesn't wash away the 21 tests of trash. If he's consistently good then that's great for Australia, but in typical BF fashion it's bumped after 1 score. Well 1 swallow a summer it does not make.

tl;dr version. It's too soon to be claiming you were right either side of the ledger. It's just one innings.
Handscomb started like this and is now boned.

I didn't think he had it in him but this was a vital knock no matter the track, marsh gets out early and England might be the team with a shot at a win, marsh scored so quick it has helped give us a small chance of beating the weather and getting a result.

That wasn't what the selectors were feeding us all week, he was brought in because the bowlers needed a hand on this pitch.

I like to hear a bit of truth from our selectors and we aren't getting any, good luck to mitch but screw the selectors

The selectors are killing it this series, this is just silly talk.
