You have never constantly bashed either of those players.
You’ve never constantly bashed a West Aussie.
I agreed with their deserved axings. You’re probably still sniffing their farts.

He scored a 96, a 45 and was the third (I think) highest run scorer. Your problem is with the thin nature of Australia's batting stocks. There are other players in worse form than him and no one knocking down the door regardless.
Wow, two scores in 8 innings. 6 no scores. Superstar, watch out Bradman.

There are players knocking down with the bat and given he rarely bowls they should be in ahead of him. However they sometimes want him to bowl 2 overs an innings.. plus he has the CA golden ticket as evidenced by his unwarranted call up for the ashes.

I follow the Shield closely enough to know we must have different definitions of 'knocking down the door'.

Head has had back to back 40+ seasons in the shield now despite having to format hop with the Australian team. Marcus Harris has, Burns has, Maxwell has, Cartwright. All as batsmen.

Head is low to mid 40s; he should be in the frame but it's not knocking the door down. Maxwell averaged high 40s with one very extreme outlier, but he should probably be in the team at someone else's expense. Cartwright had a terrible year, Harris is unreliable. This is the position we find ourselves in Mitch has won two Tests in the past two series and saved one. That's credits in the bank.

When you get only half the games due to playing for Australia and having to switch formats a lot, you get a lower average.

You call Harris unreliable. WTF is MMarsh? I suppose he is reliable because he's reliable in scoring * all. WA fans are dead blind to that.

Marcus Harris is a West Aussie, so quite familiar with him. He's 26 with a career average of 33.

Head has a career Shield average of 36.19 (7 hundreds, 24 fifties), and an average of 44.61 (4 hundreds, 7 fifties) over the past two seasons.

Maxwell is at 44.26 career (4 hundreds, 17 fifties), and 44.00 (1 hundred, 4 fifties) over the past two seasons.

Cartwright is at 42.68 career (4 hundreds, 10 fifties), and 42.23 (3 hundreds, 8 fifties) over the past two seasons.

Harris is at 32.97 career (8 hundreds, 13 fifties), and 42.05 (4 hundreds, 8 fifties) over the past two seasons.

Joe Burns is at 42.68 career (12 hundreds, 24 fifties), and 46.74 (4 hundreds, 7 fifties) over the past two seasons.

Not really a whole lot of difference between their recent outputs TBH, but they're all different batsmen who would come in at different spots in the order.

Furthermore, the only batsmen getting around at the moment with 40+ career Shield averages are:

Steve Smith (51.78), Usman Khawaja (50.60), Glenn Maxwell (44.26), David Warner (42.93), Joe Burns (42.68), Hilton Cartwright (42.68), Matt Renshaw (42.58), Peter Nevill (42.06), Matthew Wade (41.45), Kurtis Patterson (40.74), and Shaun Marsh (40.03).

All bar Patterson (who turns 25 in a month's time) have played Test cricket already.

Go get em, Kurtis. It'd be good to have some NSW blood in the national team finally.

And all of the would be in consideration, though most not for Marsh's spot, given there have been worse performers in recent times. That said, Cartwright played himself out of consideration (his career average was around 50 at the beginning of the season) and Harris isn't some guy whose average is weighted down by his first couple of years, he was very average for a long time, before putting together two decent seasons, neither of which I think demand Australian selection. There's a couple of young guys in Doran and Wildermuth who look good, but neither would be ready yet.

Sam Heazlett is the most talented of the younger batsman, was always touted as superior to Renshaw. I hope they give him a go.

Be interesting to see what Paine does. He might bring a fresh approach instead of just flogging our front liners into the ground and treating whoever is chosen as the all-rounder (which will probably be Mitch if he gets up from injury) as some sort of last resort partnership breaker.
