Justin Langer has touted him as a future Australian captain. He's having a laugh, right?

This is why I’m petrified of Langer being coach!

Imagine how many useless players he will pick!

So we are apparently dropping a guy who averages 48 for a guy who averages 20? Mitch Marsh has averaged around 30 this season in shield and has only picked up 2 wickets.

I would understand changing a winning team for someone like Maxwell who is smashing down the door but not for Marsh.

Handscomb can consider himself very unlucky. Two poor tests after an awesome year and he is going to get dropped. Ridiculous.

Sucks to be Victorian.

Two poor tests? Nah. Awesome year? Nah. Fired a shot and a half (1 good 50 v India, 1 good 50 v Bangladesh) since beating up on Pakistan in the New Years test.

Which is still more than Mitch Marsh has done...

But the Marshes are picked on some criteria nobody understands. They are not picked on form or merit so no point comparing players who are picked on form or merit to them.

I’d almost rather Stoinis being picked

I have heard a lot of commentary about the fact that Mitchell Marsh must replace Peter Handscomb for the rest of the Ashes.

No coincidence that that commentary was primarily coming from the United Kingdom. Only chance they have of getting back into the series.

Both teams are playing 1 man short they have Vince at 3!
We're not some minnow like England, we shouldn't be picking park cricket hacks like Mitch ****ing Marsh.

Well you said not a word about carrying Handscomb of course.

#novicsforu
Handscomb in a rut>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>The Shit Marsh in 'peak' form.
I'd just replace him with Maxwell. Someone deserving of selection.

We could play neither. If there has to be a change it should have for a pure batsman

In my case, I certainly don't wish to see Mitch fail, plus I'm no big fan of Maxwell.

However, Maxwell has been in excellent form and was somewhat unlucky to be dropped. Mitch has admittedly been in decent batting form, but has only recently returned to bowling so there's every chance he might break down at the WACA if asked to bowl too much.

Smith also envisions his #6 as a batsman who might throw down a few overs at most, rather than as a genuine all-rounder. Maxwell can certainly fulfill that role, even at the WACA.

Some have argued that Mitch Marsh is being picked just in case Starc/Cummins break down, but I myself am leery of picking someone just because somebody else might break down, especially if the person being picked is himself injury-prone.

I remember the same comments when Shaun was picked, and then all the flogs cane back with there tails between their legs saying how wrong they were, although some prictorians didn't show.

No doubt Luke Parker will jump ship to another side., like he did with the Bombers.

I was one of those flogs.

Hope I'm wrong again. :D:thumbsu:

Amazing that people almost seem to be desperate to see a talented 26-year-old fail.

But then again, these are the fans that wanted Gilchrist dropped for Darren Berry.
On the contrary, I want him to succeed and prove us all wrong. I don't think he will (not at this stage anyways), but I'll be very happy for him if he does string together some good games at the international level. In my mind, he doesn't need to become a world beater overnight, bur he's gotta seriously lift the bar from what he's provided in the Test team previously though.

Yet you recon a bloke averaging 21 in Marsh would do better?
It's a fair point, but cricket isn't as simple as saying this bloke averages that and so will do exactly this as opposed to that bloke who averages that and so on, Handscomb averages 47 but is in poor form with many technique issues currently, so if that continues it doesn't matter what he averages, he won't have success. Handscomb is a better player than Marsh, but right now just has too many issues, and clearly they want an extra bowling option, so yes I feel Marsh will do better right now.

Having said that I think there are better options than Marsh (albeit probably not as the 4th seamer if he's fully fit which he claims to be), just in the case of Handscomb V Marsh for this test, Marsh probably makes more sense.

I'm a massive critic of Shaun Marsh, but the biggest knock on him hasn't been that he can't bat. It's that he has no consistency at all and has never really had any period where he has kept up a level of form. 2 tests has not changed my mind one iota. If he can string together a strong Ashes series though, I'll be extremely pleased to be proven wrong!

what scared me the most about Mitch's selection is that he isn't mentally strong and you can see that when he is at the crease and he plays like he is already walking back to the pavilion. Yes his current form has been good lately and his confidence would be pretty high but im worried about his mental fortitude.

I reckon England are playing with about 4 short. It will not matter whether it is Marsh or Handscomb playing. You could have DaRick, Luke Parker, Bad Genius or even me batting at six and Australia will still win.

Nah they wouldn't pick me on account of me bowling (generous description) leg-spin (Also, very generous).

402 runs at 45, back bowling at full capacity...but this is the selection that'll lose us the Ashes from 2-0.

Going by the level of salt in this thread, you'd think they'd picked Chis Martin and were playing him at 3.
