He's been fielding at one for a while with WA, so not true. Was just napping.
With what continuity? How many games?

I think first slip is the hardest spot on the field. Give me gully any day. :)

Haven't seen him outside of first slip for WA for as long as I can remember.

And he fields in that position in club land as well.

Bit different when the likes of Starc are bowling, but fair enough.

Second or third for mine, at first you still get the odd feathered one. If you are at second or third the batsman's usually had a big slash at it and the ball is travelling at a fair rate to you.

I think for me it’s more the keeper being in front of you that would make it difficult.

Having said that mid on/mid off were the places I hated fielding! Put me behind the wicket any day of the week.

They always come flying along the ground at mid on/off and if it’s just wide it’s a long chase to the boundary! I like the gully but been short fine leg a lot this season then gully to left handlers

Stuff the long chases, if an edge got past me at gully it was either points problem or 4. :)

I did the old dive and lie on the ground till someone else chased it the other week!
Haha. I was just about to post the same thing. Even if you knew you were nowhere near it, it's much easier to make an extravagant dive rather than trying to run the ball down.

Because Smith dropped him. Marsh drew the edge of a set batsman in his second over and has only had two 3 over spells since. Hasn't been given much of a chance to impact with the ball.

If's and buts, no wickets and bowling unthreatening pedestrian medium pace

Because he's bowled trash when they've brought him on.

We need someone who can bowl cutters and slower balls on a wicket like this. Make the batsmen force the pace.
Today was a great example of why we battle to take 20 wickets in England
Mitch lacks the subtlety of Watson’s bowling, which was very handy indeed.

Bowling isn’t a huge issue for us in England, it’s more the batting.

Days like today happen, the top 4 sides are all quite even so once one gets on top they can really ram home the advantage.

As for Mitch Marsh, yes he doesn’t bowl anywhere near enough to justify having an all rounder. He should be judged off his batting 90% as his bowling is so rarely used.

I still get the feeling that there is a massive disconnect between the selectors picking Mitch Marsh as the 5th bowler and Smith's relatively frugal use of him.

A very hot 1.5 days in the field, a strike bowler out injured, his replacement doing nothing, another bowler battling illness and he only bowls 12 out of 144 overs? Ok.

Did well today. Things a bit dicey when he came in. Held out well. Agree with the above though re bowling. If he's to be in the side and we bowl 144 overs he should be sending down 15-20 of them.

As I've said previously, his concentration and defensive technique have definitely improved, even though the pitch was a road.
