Those saying he fielded well, He nearly botched both of those catches he took in the second innings!

Anyway I think if we lost the test he was gone but winning has saved him.

I've mostly been in favour of making no changes to a winning team in any sport.

Droppped for Sydney tomorrow.
That's the right call there. It'll be good to see how Webster steps up to Test level and will undoubtedly be able to bowl plenty more overs than Mitch has recently.

He'll be able to concentrate on the shorter forms of the game now too, which is a win for Australia.

Average of thirty six for MM for this period. Nine wickets, one century and six fiftys. One Allan Border Medal which is an incredible achievement.

Absolutely the right call to drop him but I’ll never understand the hate for Mitch Marsh. Not his fault he kept getting selected and always gave his all.

The fact he keeps getting selected is the the cause for a big chunk of this hate.

Playing 46 tests to average 28.5 with the bat and 40.5 with the ball is truly diabolical, he's literally one of the worst performing test cricketers of all time.

Dont hate the guy. He made do a career with what best ability he could. I do sense the MCG match may have been his last test match for Australia. He will still be around in the white all formats in the national setup for at least a couple of years.

The Allan Border medal is a medal that rewards consistency across all 3 formats and you have a better chance of winning it, if you play alot of games, to which there were many and at times too many games which didn't have as meaning eg bilateral series .

With him being a father now, his mindset in life will now by different and to me he wasn't a player that could deal with multiple priorities as well when he didn't have them eg captaincy+batting+ bowling at the same time. Having a child (im not a father yet) but am a similar age to him, and I dont know how I'd go about my things in life with added responsibility.

"'Mitchy' obviously hasn't quite got the runs, and perhaps wickets this series," Cummins told reporters on Thursday.

"So we felt like it was time for a freshen up and Beau's been great.

"It's a shame for Mitchy, because we know how much he brings to the team, but feel like now it's a good week for Beau to get a chance."
------------
load of rubbish. he's dropped because he's been frigging useless.

The entire Marsh family have taken the piss their entire careers. A few good innings each and millions in their pockets. I think we've all had enough.
I think Geoff Marsh averaged 23 over 10 Tests against th might of Ambrose, Walsh, Patterson, et.al

Border was obviously the stand out against the WI during that period.

Marsh averaged 33 for his career. So must have got a few against some other sides. But being mates with Border obviously prolonged his career. Border far from happy when G Marsh finally dropped.

I love WA media man Tim Gossage but sadly I think he is wrong on this one in terms of test cricket.

nahhh marsh is done in the test arena - unless one of our top 6 get concussed in the next day or so.

by the time marsh goes back to shield cricket and impresses again - green will be back and they would pick a younger player such as a hardie/connolly etc ahead of marsh who'll be 34 before he is even spoken about again.

46 chances at 29/40 - says enough - no more chances !

with marsh announcing his retirement from sheffield shield at the end of the season, surely ronnie mcdonald cannot leave the door open for him to still play test cricket. strange situation being retired from first class cricket, but still available to play test cricket.

with 4 shield rounds remaining and the final , marsh will be at the 20/20 world cup for the next 3 rounds of shield and would miss the final if WA were to qualify as he'll be playing in the IPL. there is a window of a week between end of 20/20 world cup and start of the IPL where a the final round of shield is a possibility, but let's face it - he ain't playing that.

if he don't get picked for adelaide, melbourne, sydney over the next 3-4 weeks, there's an 8 month gap, meaning he'll be approaching his 35th b'day if he returned (before a long stretch of 20 tests in a 13 month period).

not sure you can pick him on white ball and IPL form, it'd be sending the wrong message to the guys playing shield etc.

why ? does marsh even bowl anymore ?
there's been times in the last year that we've used 8 bowlers in white ball cricket and he hasn't even bowled.

and there's no way you could select him just as a specialist batsman.

I'm not a selector. Don't blame me, blame Andrew Flintoff. If it's not Marsh it will be Xavier Bartlett or Aaron Hardie or someone else with a pretty dubious claim to a top 6 spot in test cricket. Hardie at least averages 37 with the bat and 29 with the ball.

That's proper shithousery to say you are considering playing tests for Australia to force a farewell shield match for WA.
Mitch Marsh didn't have to force anything. Any time he makes himself available, WA will pick him. He gave it one last shout, I think his performance may have solidified that his long-form career is done, time to focus on white ball, so called it a day.

That’s all well and good but the mindset that’s he’s still available for test selection even though he’s no longer playing shield cricket comes across as arrogant to me.

Especially as his test record is incredibly mediocre over a long period of time.
