While Opening Day is next week at the time of making this post, the Dodgers and Cubs play a two game series in Tokyo (billed as the Tokyo Series) which count towards their regular season record.

First pitch is scheduled for 9.10pm AEDT tonight in game 1 of the series, with two Japanese pitchers likely to get the starts for their teams. RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto will go up against LHP Shota Imanaga.

Its good to have a proper regular season MLB game in our time zone. (referring to Japan)
Annoying that unable to replay on Foxtel though.

Nice National anthem performance both games.

Loved Pikachu mascots too.

Glad the locals got an Otanhi home run even if a silly fan wanting to be the Japanese Steve Bartman almost ruined it.

If it gets you some good Japanese prospects in the near future then it's been worth it.

Unless MLB somehow bans the Dodgers from Baseball, sure. :p

Just saying that I thought it was going to be one home and one road game for both teams. But we were the home team in both and now we have 79 home games in Chicago, instead of 80 which I thought. The Ricketts would be happy, they don’t need to revenue share the gate receipts between all 30 teams because it was an overseas series. 100% profit.

The Seoul Series in Korea last year between the Dodgers and Padres was like that. Each team alternated as the home team. Don't know how the Dodgers persuaded the Cubs to be the home team for both games, but I suspect that the Dodgers and/or MLB paid the Cubs to be the home team and voluntarily give up two home games at Wrigley Field.

The Dodgers are owned by the Guggenheim Partners, and they sponsored the Tokyo Series. It makes me think that the Cubs were financially incentivised.

Yeah, I’d say it is definitely this. FWIW, the Cardinals were the both team for both 2023 London series games against the Cubs.

Doesn't mean a lot, but the White Sox did blow out the Angels 8-1 on Opening Day.
I had money on the Angels - which in hindsight, while the White Sox are indeed useless, so are the Angels haha.

Watched the Athletics blow a 1-0, then 2-1 lead to the Mariners in Seattle. Severino and Gilbert pitched beautifully, then the Athletics bullpen blew it. Jose LeClerc gave up three runs on two no-doubt home runs to make it 4-2 Seattle in the bottom of the eighth, and the Athletics got a man on (Butler with a walk) but then Rooker struck out for the fourth time in the game and Bleday ground out into a 4-3 unassisted double-play.

It’s going to be interesting seeing MLB being played at George M. Steinbrenner Field (TB Rays) and Sutter Health Park (A’s). Single A and AAA ballparks and tiny attendances. Should be great for the locals to see MLB teams up close for an extended period of time.
