Why Was Gray credited the win for Texas and not Max?

Max was the pitcher at end of 3 innings when the score held.

Is there a pitch minimum to get a win or something?

5 innings minimum for a starting pitcher. If that doesn’t happen (Max went 3), then the win goes to the most effective reliever (Gray pitched 3 scoreless innings).

Scoring in Baseball is funny like that. Max went 3 innings and departed with a 3-0 lead. If Jon Gray still pitched 3 innings but he gave up the D’Backs only run, then the win would go to Sborz or Chapman who each pitched 1 inning.

Adolis Garcia has been ruled out of the starting lineup for game 4 of the World Series starting shortly, with Travis Jankowski drawing the start at right field. The Rangers are still evaluating the seriousness of Garcia's injury, but it has been described as a moderate strain of his oblique. He took some swings to test his readiness and is undergoing treatment from trainers, but his availability for the remainder of the series is in some doubt. Under the rules for the World Series, if a player is removed from the roster, then he cannot return.

Scherzer's back spasms apparently also have not eased, which means that his availability to pitch later in the series is under some serious doubt.

If Garcia is ruled out for the remainder of the series, it is likely that the Rangers will reinstate Ezequiel Duran to the active roster to take his place.

The Washington Nationals have hired Gerardo Parra as their new first base coach and Ricky Gutierrez as their new third base coach, taking over from Eric Young Jr and Gary DiSarcina respectively. It is the first coaching job for Parra, who has spent most of the last two seasons as special assistant to Nationals GM Mike Rizzo. Parra played 12 years in the majors, as well as some time with the Yomiuri Giants in the NPB in 2020. He won two Gold Gloves while with the Diamondbacks between 2009-2014, and was part of the championship-winning team for the Nationals in 2019.

Gutierrez also played 12 years in the majors, between 1993-2004. He worked with the Cincinnati Reds for five years after retiring, including as manager of their Double-A affiliate in 2021. He joined the Nationals prior to the 2022 season, working as a Latin American scout and in a special assistant's role, before moving to the coaching ranks as run prevention coordinator this year.

The St Louis Cardinals are reportedly targeting relievers in the offseason, to join incumbents Ryan Helsley and Giovanny Gallegos in the bullpen. As a collective, the Cardinals relievers posted 4.47 ERA across 579 2/3 innings pitched in 2023, the third worst result among NL teams (ahead of only the Nationals and the Rockies). The Cardinals have been connected with NPB LHP Yuki Matsui, who is expected to explore signing with an MLB team this offseason. The Padres' closer Josh Hader is also expected to become a free agent at the end of the season, and he would be the most coveted reliever going around, having struck out 36.8% of batters faced in 2023, a 1.28 ERA, 2.69 FIP and 33 saves in 38 opportunities.

Jeff Passan reports that both Adolis Garcia and Max Scherzer have been removed from the Rangers' roster due to injuries. They are out of the World Series. They are to be replaced by Ezequiel Duran and Brock Burke respectively.

That's terrible luck for Texas, losing their ALCS MVP for the rest of the Series.
I've always had a soft spot for Texas Rangers even though they're divisional rivals (probably because more often than not they've been pretty hopeless).

For now losing Adolis Garcia is the biggest issue. Max would have been scheduled for his next start in Game 7. The series could finish earlier.

Why are we always inflicted with the "international" coverage for the World Series, Superbowl and Stanley cup finals?

It's so annoying

Why can't we have the American Fox coverage with Joe Davis and John Smoltz ?
I love listening to Smoltz as he goes into the minds of pitchers and batters during a long at-bat.

Whose brilliant idea is to have these ESPN nobodies calling the games. They suck.

Dave Flemming and Ryan Spilborghs

Rights would be the short answer to your question.

But worth noting that neither Flemming nor Spillborghs are employed by ESPN (at least in respect of baseball; I understand that Flemming works on college basketball for ESPN). Spillborghs worked on the Friday Night baseball coverage with AppleTV+ and previously has been the Colorado Rockies pre-game and post-game analyst. Flemming is the local play by play guy for the Giants.

Anyway, Smoltz sucks as a colour guy. Too prone to drifting off on his own tangent and too full of his own opinions to actually commentate well on the game. I'm glad he isn't on the coverage of the World Series here in Australia.

Wow, Rangers WC. Well done rangers.

Only ever time i get to watch texas is when they make the playoffs so haven't seen much of the current team play before.

Unreal that they were a basket case for 5+ years with no idea how to develop talent and it all comes together. Very well done

Special shout out to the mets, they let Scherzer and de Grom go to the Rangers, miss the playoffs and those two win a ring. LOL. Mets.

2 hits for Seager today. Wraps up the MVP if Texas holds on

Named World Series MVP. Now has a World Series MVP for both an NL team (Dodgers) and an AL team (Rangers). First player in MLB history to achieve that. Reggie Jackson won two World Series MVPs for two different teams (Athletics and Yankees) but they were both in the American League.

Can laugh at the Mets for lots of things this season, but IMO not for deGrom and Scherzer. The contract the Rangers gave deGrom is insane, especially with his injury history and when the free-spending Mets decide not to match it, it should be ringing alarm bells. Keeping a 39 year old Max Scherzer after the trade deadline wasn't going to do much for the Mets this season. The Mets got Luisangel Acuna Jr in exchange for Scherzer. If Acuna develops into a player half the calibre of his older brother Ronald, he is going to be a fine player for the Mets in the long term.
