Damn, these are hard!!! Let's see how I go.

1 - Tyson was one of them I'm pretty sure as he was fresh out of jail. I'd assume either Bowe or Holyfield would be the other as they were heavyweight champs around that time.

2 - Heart test? Trying to think of something an older gent may have issues with but don't remember hearing about this

3 - No idea

4 - Also no idea

5 - Stan the Man?

6 - No idea, but the question rings a bell. I'll probably kick myself when I see the answer.

7 - $50? Complete guess

8 - You've got me here. I can't think of the main commentator prior to goldie and know that Blatnick never competed. Don't think Superfoot did fight MMA and am pretty sure Brown didn't either, so I have no idea.

9 - I'm assuming someone from pancrase which I'm not too familiar with. I remember watching Bas' career set a while ago and he lost to a big Asian in black wrestler trunks who's name escapes me, so I'll go with that.

10 - Matt Serra?

11 - Vitor Gracie

12 - Harold Howard

13 - I'll guess Royce due to the infamy Kimo got from their first fight.

14 - Nathan Jones

15 - Gene Lebell? I know he's done a lot of that sort of stuff and he's loosely MMA based with his work with Ronda's camp.

16 - Ray Mercer

17 - Don Frye

18 - Igor Vovchanchyn?

19 - Can't remember the number, but it was the one where Shamrock and Severn had the staring contest for 35 minutes. It was their second fight and their first was around UFC 6 from memory, so I'll guess UFC 9?

20 - Brazil and Japan both had early ones in the teens I think. Was it called Ultimate Brazil or something?

BradWCE

1. UFC 33 - Tito vs Vladdy

2. Bustamante vs Lindland

3. GSP

4. Is this all five-round fights or just title fights? If it's the latter then I can think of eight. TJ vs Barao/Soto, Johnson twice, Lawler/McDonald, Penn/Sanchez, Cain/JDS III, Silva/Chael. Only non-title fight I can think of off the top of my head is Hunt/Miocic.

5. Dillashaw and Mouse Johnson

6. Cain, Nog, BJ, Fitch, Rousey, Holm

7. Hunt, Miocic, Bigfoot, Bisping, Rockhold, Alves, Kampmann, Pearson, Sots

8. Diaz and Parisyan

I thought that BradWCE had difficult questions, but the_interloper is going old school. I know a few of these, I'll be back.

I've read up a fair bit on the early UFCs and the origins on MMA, fascinating topic. If anyone wants to read a great book on the early days of MMA, not just the UFC but the other orgs that popped up check out "No Holds Barred: The Complete History of Mixed Martial Arts in America" By Clyde Gentry III. It's an excellent book, heavy on detail, and you'll notice I got a lot of my questions out of there.

BradWCE bkozican Magnum phantom13 have a crack too, I'll do the answers on the weekend.

Got a few to go through, so I'm just going to reply to everyone individually in one post. Make sure you only click on the response to your post.

3. GSP

5. TJ is one, and Cain?

9. Get some fans

9. Correct

1 - I remember reading something about this but am not sure. Was it the card headlined by Tito and Matyushenko? No idea what number that was, but know it was in the Zuffa era and remember it being prerry dull.

2 - Murilo Bustamante and Matt Lindland

3 - GSP

4 - Based on the anwer to number 5, I'm going with 6. Can only think of the Penn/Sanchez and Lawler MacDonald fights ending in the 5th in addition to the one's in number 5.

5 - TJ Dillashaw (Barao and Soto) and Demetrius Johnson (Moraga and Horiguchi)

6 - UFC 110 Cain Velasquez and Antonio Nogueira, 127 BJ Penn and Jon Fitch, 193 Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm

8 - Nate Diaz and Karo "Do you know who I am bro? Parisyan. Great scene!

9 - It was something like "Go Check on him to win yourself some fans"

10 - Ooh, tough one. I can't remember it happeneing for a while so I'll go with Randy, BJ and Tito.

8. Correct
9. Correct. "Get some fans"
10. Penn is correct. The other 2 are not. One fighter lost his for failing a drug test and the other lost his because he was injured.
11. Incorrect. And it isn't Penn.

1. UFC 33/34? Tito vs someone, I can't remember.
2. Matt Lindland but don't know the other.
3. GSP
8. BJ and Pulver
1. I'll say that's correct. UFC 33 it was. Ortiz vs Matyushenko was the main event.
2. Lindland is correct.
3. Correct
8. Incorrect. A hint is that the fighter competing on the show won that season 5 of TUF

BradWCE

Can't see most of your answers for some reason. I can see everyone else's so I'm not sure why I can't see yours. Maybe something with the spoiler tags? Should be able to fix it by editing your post and then I'll let you know how you did. I can just see your answer to question 1 (correct by the way), but then I can't get any further down.

1. Which UFC PPV ran over and cut out early on many cable systems? This event was the first sanctioned by the NSAC and has been described as “the worst show we’ve ever had” by Dana White.

UFC 33, though UFC 4 also ran over time, subscribers missed the end of Severn v Gracie

2. Who are the two fighters that competed against each other at UFC 37 in what has become known as the ‘double tap’ fight?

No idea

3. Who made their debut at UFC 46 against Karo Parisyan? This fighter would go on to become a UFC champion.

GSP (?)

4. How many UFC fights have entered the 5th round and not gone to decision?

Can only think of 2, Silva v Sonnen 1 and I think one of Demetrious Johnson's could be more.

5. There are two fighters who have been able to finish an opponent in the 5th round two times in UFC fights. Who are these two fighters?

See previous answer ha ha

Hunt v Miocic
Hunt v Bigfoot
Can't remember the rest

8. On The Ultimate Fighter 5 who had a verbal confrontation (some physical contact also occurred) and then they almost came to blows before being separated? One of the men was competing on TUF 5 and one was not.

No idea

9. Greg Jackson says something immediately after the fight between Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida at UFC 140. What he said got a fair amount of media attention. What did he say? (There are 3 words that I‘m really looking for here to get this correct)

Get some fans!

10. Recently Jon Jones was stripped of his UFC championship. Dominick Cruz and GSP vacated their championships fairly recently. Who are the last 3 UFC champions before these 3 to be stripped of or vacate their UFC championships?

Couture vacated once I think, unsure of any others.

11. Who out of the 3 fighters that correctly answer question 10 was stripped of or vacated their title most recently?

I'll go Randy then.
1. Correct

8. One of them went on to win that season of TUF.
9. Correct
10. Couture was further back than these 3.
11. Will give a hint to everyone on this one.

Ross is doing the best again with the questions. 8 correct. Not far off with question 4 and has 2 out of the 3 for question 10.

I'll give some hints to everyone for question 11 since nobody has named this fighter in question 10 or 11. He had title fights in two different weight classes in the UFC. He got stripped of his championship for failing a post-fight drug test. He competed at WW and LW in the UFC. He lost just four times in his career and all 4 men he lost to have been UFC champions.

14. Nathan Jones

Correct

16. Ray Mercer

Correct

18. Igor Vovchanchin (spelling?)

Correct (Vovchanchyn)

19. UFC 8

20. Japan? UFC Ultimate Japan? Actually I think this might have been the 2nd. I think there was one earlier outside the U.S. in an American territory but I forget where.

On the right track, was UFC 8 in Puerto Rico.

So I make it 4 out of 20 for you

Looks like everyone has had a go at the questions by now. Here are the answers.

1. Which UFC PPV ran over and cut out early on many cable systems? This event was the first sanctioned by the NSAC and has been described as “the worst show we’ve ever had” by Dana White.

UFC 33

2. Who are the two fighters that competed against each other at UFC 37 in what has become known as the ‘double tap’ fight?

Murilo Bustamante & Matt Lindland

3. Who made their debut at UFC 46 against Karo Parisyan? This fighter would go on to become a UFC champion.

Georges St Pierre

4. How many UFC fights have entered the 5th round and not gone to decision?

Twelve:

- Dillashaw/Soto

- Dillashaw/Barao

- Johnson/Horiguchi

- Johnson/Moraga

- Penn/Sanchez

- Rodriguez/Couture

- Velasquez/JDS

- Silva/Sonnen

- Edgar/Swanson

- Miocic/Hunt

- Lawler/MacDonald

- Namajuas/VanZant

5. There are two fighters who have been able to finish an opponent in the 5th round two times in UFC fights. Who are these two fighters?

Demetrious Johnson & T.J. Dillashaw

6. There have been 3 UFC PPV events (in the U.S. anyway) in Australia. Who are the 6 fighters that have competed in those 3 main events?

Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, BJ Penn, Jon Fitch, Cain Velasquez, Big Nog

7. There have been 5 non-PPV UFC cards in Australia. Who are the 9 fighters (one fighter has main evented twice) that competed in the main events of these cards?

Miocic, Hunt, Rockhold, Bisping, Bigfoot Silva, Sotiropoulos, Pearson, Thiago Alves, Kampmann

8. On The Ultimate Fighter 5 who had a verbal confrontation (some physical contact also occurred) and then they almost came to blows before being separated? One of the men was competing on TUF 5 and one was not.

Karo Parisyan & Nate Diaz

9. Greg Jackson says something immediately after the fight between Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida at UFC 140. What he said got a fair amount of media attention. What did he say? (There are 3 words that I‘m really looking for here to get this correct)

Jon Jones. Go check on Lyoto. Get some fans.

10. Recently Jon Jones was stripped of his UFC title. Dominick Cruz and GSP vacated their titles fairly recently also. Who are the last 3 UFC champions before these 3 to be stripped of or vacate their UFC championships?

Sean Sherk, BJ Penn, Frank Mir

11. Who out of the 3 fighters that correctly answer question 10 was stripped of or vacated their title most recently?

Sean Sherk

Ross & phantom13 did the best with these questions. Ross got 8 and wasn't far off on a couple more of them. phantom13 initially got 8 and then answered something else to get 9.

Almost everyone missed Sherk in question 10. Nobody got 4 right. I think everyone who listed a bunch of fights missed Rodriguez/Couture and Namajunas/VanZant. So everyone missed both the most and least recent fights that ended in the 5th round.

Hmmm

Thread comeback...I got a few questions :)

1) Who, when and where? - Who holds the record on becoming the youngest UFC champ...When and Where?

2) Who was the last ufc fighter to successfully complete the von flue choke?

3) Chuck Liddel and Tito Ortiz faced off how many times?

4) How many...If any are sanctioned as a 'foul' by the Nevada State Athletic Commission:
A.Hair pulling
B.The use of abusive language in fighting area
C.Heel kicks to the kidney
D.Faking an injury
E.Spitting at an opponent
F.Intentially dropping the mouthpiece

5) How many times has Georges St-Pierre successfully defended his UFC welterweight championship over the course of his career?

The trivia thread lives! My answers below bkozican

1 - Jon Jones at UFC 128 against Shogun. I believe the card was somewhere in New Jersey and would have been in 2011 from memory.

2 - OSP beat Krylov with one a little while ago. Can't remember one since.

3 - Twice. Three if you count them coaching against eachother in TUF. The first was UFC 40 something (47 maybe) and the second was at UFC 66.

4 - This one will be a total guess... not overly familiar with the rules of the NSAC. I'll go with 4.

5 - Don't know the number off hand. I don't think he defended it after beating Hughes for the belt the first time. After winning it back from Serra he beat Fitch , BJ, Alves, Hardy, Koscheck, Shields, Diaz, Condit and Hendricks that I can think of so I'll go with 9.
