Likely destinations: North Melbourne (5), Sydney (6), Port Adelaide (8,9)
Why: To add something different to the midfield. Will ultimately be a toss up between Rohan and Cunnington. Rohan is a high risk/ high reward type at this pick but with Ziebell last draft they might go for something different this time.

Recruited from: East Fremantle
Player comparison: Dane Swan
Likely destinations: West Coast (7), Sydney (6).
Why: WA boy, impressed at draft camp and ultimately would be a good fit whether as a forward or a mid.

Player comparison: Travis Cloke
Likely destinations: Port Adelaide (8,9)
Why: Best available key forward. Need a key forward and will look no further.

#9 (Port Adelaide) – Luke Tapscott (SA)
Height: 180cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 28/06/91
Recruited from: North Adelaide

Player comparison: Nathan Buckley
Likely destinations: Port Adelaide (8,9), Essendon (10).
Why: Penetrating kick, physically mature body and a definite top 10 choice. SA boy who I link very strongly to this pick.

#10 (Essendon) - Jake Melksham (VIC)
Height: 182cm, Weight: 69kg, DOB: 29/08/91
Recruited from: PEGS
Player comparison: Scott Pendlebury
Likely destinations: Geelong (17), Essendon (10), Sydney (14), Western Bull Dogs (15), North Melbourne (21).
Why: Quality mid, will take a while to fill out but after his finals campaign may have shown enough to be picked this high.

#11 (Melbourne) – Aaron Black (WA)
Height: 193cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 29/11/90
Recruited from: Peel Thunder
Player comparison: Mitchell Brown (Geelong)
Likely destinations: Melbourne (11), Carlton (12), Port Adelaide (16), Melbourne (18), Fremantle (20)
Why: Need a key forward. Black is not the best available at this pick, but based on needs a pick I see happening.

#12 (Carlton) – Jake Carlisle (VIC)
Height: 196cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 01/10/90
Recruited from: Craigieburn
Player comparison: Adam Hunter
Likely destinations: Carlton (12), Melbourne (11), Port Adelaide (16), Melbourne (18).
Why: Need a key position player and Carlisle can play either forward or back which would be very attractive to Carlton considering their key position deficiencies up front and down back.

#13 (Adelaide) - Bradley Sheppard (WA)
Height: 186cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 23/05/91
Recruited from: Wesley College
Player comparison: Grant Birchall
Likely destinations: Essendon (10), West Coast (7), Adelaide (13), Geelong (17).
Why: Best available. Possible top 10 quality, could play as a running back or mid. Very real possibility he could go higher. Will be the ideal addition with McLeod and Goodwin nearing the end.

#14 - (Sydney) – Daniel Talia (VIC)
Height: 194cm, Weight: 89kg, DOB: 02/10/91
Recruited from: Calder Cannons
Player comparison: Nathan Bock
Likely destinations: Sydney (14), Essendon (10), Melbourne (11), Carlton (12), Western Bull Dogs (15).
Why: Best defender in the draft. After going small at pick 6 will definitely be hoping Talia is still available.

#15 (Western Bulldogs) – Andrew Moore (VIC)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 30/05/91
Recruited from: Yarra Valley Grammar
Player comparison: Robert Murphy
Likely destinations: Western Bull Dogs (15), Sydney (14), Geelong (17), Richmond (19).
Why: Versatile and could play anywhere needed and potentially fill holes where needed throughout the season which I can see being attractive to the Western Bull Dogs, due to his versatility I could see him making the 22. Can’t see them going key position after the last few years and after the new acquisition of Barry Hall.

#16 (Port Adelaide) - Koby Stevens (VIC)
Height: 187cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 18/06/91
Recruited from: Lucknow
Player comparison: David Armitage
Likely destinations: Adelaide (13), Essendon (10).
Why: Quality inside mid who I can see fitting into the midfield really nicely. Bargain at this pick.

#17 – (Geelong) – Ryan Bastinac (VIC)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 22/06/91
Recruited from: Rowville
Player comparison: Lenny Hayes
Likely destinations: Richmond (19), Western Bull Dogs (15), Geelong (17), Fremantle (20), North Melbourne (21).
Why: If available here I can see him getting snapped up. Quality inside mid who is very damaging. Best available and I can see him developing into one of the better players in this draft.

#18 (Melbourne) - Nathan Vardy (VIC)
Height: 198cm, Weight: 89kg, DOB: 25/06/91
Recruited from: Gippsland Power
Player comparison: Darren Jolly
Likely destinations: Melbourne (18), Melbourne (11), Western Bull Dogs (15), Port Adelaide (16), Richmond (19), Essendon (24).
Why: Best available ruckman and after getting the 2 best mids in the draft and a key position forward makes sense to fill their ruck need now.

#19 - (Richmond) - Matthew Panos (SA)
Height: 192cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 25/01/91
Recruited from: Norwood
Player comparison: Matthew Lloyd.
Likely destinations: Essendon (33), Port Adelaide (16), Essendon (24), Essendon (26), Collingwood (30), St Kilda (32), Melbourne (34), Richmond (35), Fremantle (36), Sydney (38), Carlton (43).
Why: Richmond really need a key position forward and with Richardson surely reaching the end of his career and with not enough quality big targets inside 50. Panos here is the best available, hard to say where Panos will end up but a quality full forward who you can tell grew up watching Matthew Lloyd.

#20 - (Fremantle) – Jack Fitzpatrick (VIC)
Height: 201cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 26/06/91
Recruited from: Whyndhamvale
Player comparison: Cameron Wood
Likely destinations: North Melbourne (25), Fremantle (20), North Melbourne (21), Collingwood (30).
Why: I perceive Fremantle’s most important need to be a Ruckman who in the future can come into the side when Sandilands retires. Fremantle only have one ruckman not by the name of Sandilands and having only two senior listed ruckman is simply not enough! Fitzpatrick is athletic, will take some time to develop, but ultimately I think he very well could become the best ruckman in this draft class once filled out. Ideal replacement for Sandilands. Could take 3-4 years to fill out, which means that he will be ready once Sandilands is nearing the end which is ideal timing. With Morabito at 4 it would make sense going for this logical needs based pick since they only have two senior listed ruckman which really is not enough!

#21 (North Melbourne) – Jordan Gysberts (VIC)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 11/06/91
Recruited from: Yarra Valley Grammar
Player comparison: Shaun Higgins
Likely destinations: North Melbourne (21), Sydney (14), Western Bull Dogs (15), Geelong (17), Essendon (24), North Melbourne (25).
Why: A nice mid at this pick. Also link Christensen to this pick. Gysberts would provide a bit like Rohan something different to this midfield and reinvent it giving it a new identity which I see as being attractive to North at this pick.

#22 (West Coast) – Lewis Jetta (WA)
Height: 178cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: 04/05/89
Recruited from: Peel Thunder
Player comparison: Danyl Pearce
Likely destinations: Port Adelaide (16), Essendon (10), Melbourne (11), Geelong 17), Melbourne (18), West Coast (22).
Why: Wants to go to West Coast and if available here there will certainly be no hesitation. Can see him slipping due to being a mature age draftee, but top 10 quality pick without a doubt!

#23 (West Coast) – Ben Griffiths (VIC)
Height: 198cm, Weight: 99kg, DOB: 17/09/91
Recruited from: Eastern Rangers
Player comparison: David Hale
Likely destinations: West Coast (22), Port Adelaide (16), Richmond (19), Fremantle (20), West Coast (23), Essendon (24).
Why: Think he could very well be a bust, but for West Coast I can see him having an immediate impact due to their key position needs. Physically ready, just injury could be a concern. I see him as a good short term solution, just not sure long term how good he will end up being.

#24 (Essendon) – Allen Christensen (VIC)
Height: 176cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 19/05/91
Recruited from: Lara
Player comparison: Daniel Kerr
Likely destinations: Essendon (24), Essendon (10), Western Bull Dogs (15), Richmond (19), Fremantle (20), North Melbourne (21).
Why: Best available at this point in time and is the inside mid Essendon have been looking for. This is probably a bit late in the draft for him but I’m sure Essendon will be hoping will drop this far and I see there being a reasonable possibility of it. Some Essendon supporters have been expressing that they would pick him at 10, so all things considered excellent pick at this stage of the draft!

#25 (North Melbourne) – Mitchell Duncan (WA)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 10/06/91
Recruited from: Trinity College
Player comparison: Ryan O’Keefe
Likely destinations: Adelaide (29), Geelong (17), North Melbourne (21), West Coast (22), West Coast (23), North Melbourne (25), Geelong (28).
Why: Not confident as to where he will land in this draft, but if available at 25 would be a nice pick. Also link Nat Fyfe with this pick.

#26 (Essendon) – Jessie Crichton (TAS)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 66kg, DOB: 18/06/91
Recruited from: North Launceston
Player comparison: Dale Thomas
Likely destinations: Essendon (26), Essendon (24), Brisbane (27), Collingwood (30).
Why: Now for an outside mid replace what was lost on Andrew Lovett. This kid has real promise and I really like his effort. Great tackler and a nice user of the ball. Just needs to put on some weight.

#27 (Brisbane) – Travis Colyer (WA)
Height: 175cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 24/08/91
Recruited from: Trinity College
Player comparison: Matthew Stokes
Likely destinations: West Coast (23) West Coast (22), Brisbane (27).
Why: With Anthony Corrie gone and Rhan Hooper, a small forward to compliment Fevola and Brown in the forward line will be high on their list. If available here see him as a very likely possibility of getting picked.

#28 (Geelong) – Jasper McMillan-Pittard (Geelong Falcons, VIC)
Height: 185cm, Weight: 70kg, DOB: 01/01/91
Recruited from: Torquay
Player comparison: Brendan Goddard
Likely destinations: Geelong (28), North Melbourne (25), Collingwood (30), North Melbourne (37).
Why: I link Jasper McMililan Pittard to this pick really strongly. With Milburn coming to the end of his career and Tom Harley retired they need someone down back. Creative half back flanker who is very under rated on this site. I see this pick happening, Geelong Falcon who meets their needs perfectly.

#29 (Adelaide) – James Craig (North Adelaide, SA)
Height: 195cm, Weight: 91kg, DOB: 18/04/91
Recruited from: Fitzroy
Player comparison: Patrick Ryder/ Mitch Clark
Likely destinations: Hawthorn (39), Adelaide (29), North Melbourne (37), Sydney (38).
Why: Has a fantastic vertical leap and is a natural ruck technician. Bit undersized for a ruckman, but if you have seen him play then you would be thinking he can make it.

#30 (Collingwood) – Troy Taylor (NT)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 12/09/91
Recruited from: South Alice Springs
Player comparison: Steve Johnson.
Likely destinations: Fremantle (20), Essendon (10), Geelong (17), Richmond (19), North Melbourne (21), Essendon (24), Essendon (26), Geelong (28), Collingwood (30).
Why: Lance Franklin/ Daniel Motlop hybrid. Crowd favourite, fans will turn up to games just to watch this kid. Will have some real ups and downs to start with, but one things for sure he will be a human highlight reel. Could go anywhere in this draft and his potential is limitless. Hope he drops to Collingwood at #30! I see one of Jack Fitzpatrick, Matthew Panos or Troy Taylor being available at this pick, so I’m starting to think that despite popular belief that Josh Thomas will drop to Hawthorn at 39.

#31 (Western Bull Dogs) - Sam Reid (Murray Bushrangers, VIC)

Height: 192cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 27/12/91
Recruited from: Wangaratta
Player comparison: Ben Reid
Likely destinations: Western Bull Dogs (31), Collingwood (30), St Kilda (32), Essendon (33), Richmond (35), North Melbourne (37).
Why: Could do with another key position defender. Reid is best available at this stage and after going for Moore with 15, I don’t think they will mind developing a young key defender who may take a few years like his brother Ben, likely will be quality in 3-4 years once he steps into the side. Probably a bit under rated on this site and I don’t see him dropping any further in this draft.

#32 (St Kilda) - Ryan Harwood (Tassie Mariners, TAS)

Height: 184cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: 08/07/91
Recruited from: Glenorchy
Player comparison: Luke Ball
Likely destinations: St Kilda (32), Collingwood (30), Western Bull Dogs (31), Essendon (33), Melbourne (34), Richmond (35), North Melbourne (37).
Why: Inside mid who is great in congested situations. With Ball likely to leave the club could be a nice reserve to have on the sideline. Really rate this guy and think he will become a very good player.

#33 (Essendon) - Daniel Menzel (Central District, SA)

Height: 185cm, Weight: 77kg, DOB: 13/09/91
Recruited from: Golden Grove
Player comparison: Luke Hodge
Likely destinations: Brisbane (27), Western Bull Dogs (31), Essendon (33), Melbourne (34), Geelong (40).
Why: Quick, talented, sweeper type guy who with the possible departures of Andrew Welsh and Adam McPhee would be a good choice with this pick.

#34 (Melbourne) Max Gawn (Sandringham Dragons, VIC)

Height: 206cm, Weight: 97kg, DOB: 28/12/91
Recruited from: Ormond
Player comparison: Max Bailey.
Likely destinations: Hawthorn (39), Adelaide (28), Essendon (33), Richmond (35), Geelong (40), North Melbourne (41), Geelong (42), Richmond (44), Adelaide (45).
Why: With a pretty complete draft may take a go on someone like Gawn. Gawn being the tallest in this draft will be an attractive prospect, could be a bust, but worth a chance considering they have already picked up some quality players. Considering his age could grow some more and have more scope for physical development. Even if Vardy at 18 happens I still think they will go for Gawn at 34, really view ruck as an area Melbourne need to improve upon, and I don’t think they will mind taking a shot at him with this pick considering they have filled their needs with the previous picks.

#35 (Richmond) Dylan Grimes (Northern Knights, VIC) Height: 192cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 16/07/91
Recruited from: Hurstbridge
Player comparison: Tom Harley
Why: Someone who has impressed a few clubs at draft camp. Can see him going this high. His interviews were very impressive and he came across very well. Has good closing speed.

#36 (Fremantle) Roland Ah Chee (NT)
Height: 184cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: 21/11/90
Recruited from: Norwood
Player comparison: Daniel Wells
Likely destinations: Fremantle (36), Essendon (33), Melbourne (34), Richmond (35), North Melbourne (37).
Why: Speedy and has a great work rate. Just needs to work on his fitness, could be very good player.

#37 (North Melbourne) Nat Fyfe (WA)
Height: 186cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 18/09/91
Recruited from: Aquinas College
Player comparison: Steve Johnson
Likely destinations: North Melbourne (37), North Melbourne (25), Geelong (28), Collingwood (30), Western Bull Dogs (31), St Kilda (32), Sydney (38).
Why: Could go higher in this draft, North Melbourne will be thrilled to get Fyfe here. I can see him becoming a very good player once he fills out a bit. Would not discount him as a chance to go at 25.

#38 (Sydney) Joseph Dare (Geelong Falcons, VIC)

Height: 188cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 17/10/91
Recruited from: Colac
Player comparison: Robert Murphy
Why: Versatile and can play forward or back.

#39 (Hawthorn) Josh Thomas (QLD)
Height: 178cm, Weight: 70kg, DOB: 01/10/91
Recruited from: Broadbeach
Player comparison: Dayne Beams
Likely destinations: Collingwood (30), Brisbane (27), North Melbourne (37), Hawthorn (39), North Melbourne (41), Brisbane (47).
Why: Can see him dropping because I see Collingwood getting a slider at 30. Inside mid who is a good user of the footy, at this pick will be one of the undiscovered gems of this draft. Really rate him.

#40 (Geelong) - Callum Bartlett (Geelong Falcons, VIC)
Height: 179cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 19/06/91
Recruited from: North Geelong
Player comparison: Brad Dick
Likely destinations: Geelong (40), Richmond (35), Geelong (42), Richmond (44).
Why: Seem a bit down on Matthew Stokes. Geelong value their aboriginal talent and Bartlett is a guy who was injured this year but was considered a possible 1st round pick. Could be a bit of a Brad Dick type pick at this stage in the draft. Worth the risk.

#62 Collingwood – Alex Carey *I see him a big chance being still available at this pick. An inside mid is a need and Carey certainly fits that need as well as any at this stage in the draft.*

#78 Collingwood – Mitch Thorp *Although I don't think he has come up yet in club discusions I really think that at 78 he would be a really nice pick. With Prestigiacomo nearing the end of his career and Leigh Brown not getting any younger might as well take on a key position backman who has been in the system long enough to be near AFL ready. In 2010 I see him more as being a depth player, but a definate possibility to take up a key position in 2011 with Nathan Brown in the other key position leaving Ben Reid on a back flank playing the Nick Maxwell sweeper role which I really like him in.*

don't think we need another flashy player who goes in and out of games. we need a solid player i'm thinking someone like Carey. looks like a player who would do his role every week. but i would prefer panos of course. sounds like i've got a man crush on him love the way he plays :D

Well if you have a man crush on Matthew Panos, then you have a man crush on Matthew Lloyd. Identical in the way they play.

My new draft thought is that one of Panos, Fitzpatrick or Taylor will be available. I don't think the club would consider Panos as the club considers there to be enough young key forwards, so can't see it happening with Pick 30 unfortunately, but if it were Fitzpatrick or Taylor they would, even over Thomas.

Alex Carey should will very likely be available at pick 62, he is definately not top 30 quality in this draft and the club will go with best available (which I see being a slider type in this draft).
The draft is really open which makes this a really interesting one because at very few selections is there a definative best available.

If you are thinking inside mid I would go Josh Thomas over Carey anyday.

Ultimate would be Luke Ball clearly, but even if he elects for the national draft I see him going to probably North Melbourne (21,25), Essendon (24,26) or Brisbane (27) as his most likely destinations.

You really want us to get Troy Taylor.

I don't see the Franklin but I see Motlop in him

Troy Taylor has the potential to dominate in the forwardline in the way Lance Franlin or Steve Johnson do.

I see it being either Taylor or Fitzpatrick most likely who will drop from down to us at pick 30. I'm going with Taylor after looking at Fremantle's list, simply can't see them letting Fitzpatrick past if available which is where I came up with the idea that Taylor could slip to us.

Taylor even at 30 is probably not the best player available, just worth picking him on potential, which is really what he will be picked on wherever he gets selected.

Taylor I see as being a great 3rd tall option, he would add something really different to our forwardline and take alot of pressure of players like Medhurst once he develops.

don't have a man crush on llyod because he dives therefore cheats and he played for essendon :p seems that i like panos you like taylor and others like thomas. will likw who ever they get :)

With Panos the thing is that if he reaches our pick I see us skipping out on him, he is a quality forward and personally I'm a fan of his game, just I really don't think the club are that keen on investing in key forwards this draft. If available I must agree I would also not hesitate in snapping him up.

So I'm thinking that one of Taylor or Fitzpatrick will slip through and be our pick 30.

I'm starting to doubt we will select Josh Thomas, I am certainly not against picking him and he is someone I definately see being available at our pick, just I think that we will be able to get a slider meaning that Thomas will drop to Hawthorn at 39.

My preference order at 30 would now be: Luke Ball, Troy Taylor, Jack Fitzpatrick, Matthew Panos, Josh Thomas (likely option if none of the other mentioned players are available, just I see atleast one of the players mentioned above slipping to our pick).

Really hoping for Troy Taylor come draft day.

I'd be willing to pick him on potential even if he is not a top 30 prospect.

I think we can afford to take a few risks in this draft because of the healthy shape our list is in.

Will be interesting to see though what we do if Ball nominates for the draft and is thereabouts. Also the Josh Thomas factor to consider too.

Luke Ball if available at Pick 30 will play for Collingwood in 2010, just unlikely at this stage. Would love him though, perfect fit, hard at it inside mid who would add experience to a young midfield.

Josh Thomas I think is more our backup option if there is no slider we like rather than our first choice at 30. Thomas is someone I definately see making it and would be a very good choice, just see him slipping.

Just starting to think that a Fitzpatrick or Taylor could drop to us at 30 in which case we would pounce rather than go for Thomas.

We won't be taking Fitzpatrick, particularly after recruiting Jolly.

I am almost certain it will be one of Ball/Taylor/Thomas at pick 30.

Sam Reid could be a smoky.

Can someone shed a bit of light on Taylor?

Is he just a clever player around goals, ala Motlop? Is he a genuine athletic freak, like Jurrah? Both? Does he have midfield potential? What's his build like?

Don't think it will be Taylor. He'll be gobbled up by Port at 16 or Freo at 20.

Port if Stevens is available I can imagine would snap him up. Would also say they would prefer Lewis Jetta over Taylor.

Fremantle I'm thinking that if Panos or Fitzpatrick are available one of them will be selected there at pick 20. Fremantle really need a key forward and with Sandilands being the only good ruckman if injury hits him they really have no reasonable backup option. Also he is reaching the later part of his career which will mean with Fitzpatrick that he will take 2-3 years to fill out which means that he would be the replacement for Sandilands when he retires. If they select a ruckman after this year it probably mean that they won't be able to fully develop a ruckman who will be ready to play right away when Sandilands retires which is why for Fremantle I like Fitzpatrick with their pick. Considering they only have one other ruckman on their senior list I would consider it a need which they would almost need go for with their pick.

189cm 78kg

Can imagine him becoming a Steve Johnson type.

Why I consider him a hybrid of Motlop and Franklin is that he can do all those things that a small like Motlop can do at a greater height. He is a really versatile forward who can play key position, small or medium tall/ 3rd tall forward which to me really appeals in that depending on who we decide to play or depending on midfield rotations and who is playing up forward he could fit into the side really well with our rotations.

He had a poor draft camp which might make him slip to our pick.

He will early on in his career have the Leon Davis ups and downs, bring something incredible one week and the next nothing much, but for a kid that is to be expected.

He is an excitement machine who is a natural footballer who really has the instincts to become a great player, athletic, can jump through the roof, speedy and once he adds consistancy to his game could become a monster.

In my mind Taylor is the kind of guy that at the right club could become a star, in my mind I see that being Collingwood. In recent years we have been fantastic with the development of young talent and I think if anyone can get the best out of him it is us.

I'm confident if available he would be picked. :thumbsu:

I'll leave this up, but in general I don't think this is the place for full mock drafts.

Put it up on the phantom drafts board and then just link it here with discussion of Collingwood's specific picks.

It's believed Freo have had extensive discussion with Taylor and have organized a way to get around his parole conditions if drafting him.

North Melbourne are "apparently" also keen on Taylor, and have 3 selections before our first.

It's hard to say who we'd rate around 30, I know Taylor is in our thinking, but I'm 99% sure he'll be selected by then.

We seem really keen on topping up our list with older more experienced players this year.

We may see Michael Barlow or Myles Sewell taken at 30 if Welsh, and Ball are unavailable. Seems we're looking at 2010 at a year to challenge hard for the flag.

Personally I would be happy with Barlow. Unlikely to be there in the 60's.
