Assumes:
1. All delisted/out of contract players do not get selected in the national draft.
2. Notting, Dew, Ramanauskas, Brooks, Schwarze, Hadley, McIntosh, Keating, Richards, Bizzell, Schauble, Hyde, Mooney, Riccardi, Kouloriotis, Williams, Newman all re-sign with the current club which I think is most likely to be the case.
3. All teams have at least one selection.
The Picks:
1. Richmond - Mark McGough (Collingwood)
Richmond picks the most talented young player available. I also believe that Wallace rates him as a footballer.
2. Hawthorn - David Spriggs (Geelong)
I think Hawthorn would like more pace in their midfield so they select the former cat with pick 2.
3. Western Bulldogs - Luke Livingston (Carlton)
The doggies lack some talls in defence, so maybe Rodney Eade can turn around the career of Livingston who was previous a high first round pick. He's still young so there's still time to make the grade.
4. Collingwood - Blake Caracella (Brisbane Lions)
With Richmond, Hawthorn and Western Bulldogs in rebuilding mode it doesn't make sense for them chase a high priced player who turns 28 in 2005. Collingwood gladly selects Caracella whom the Lions cannot keep for financial reasons.
5. Adelaide - Trent Knobel (St. Kilda)
Given it is likely to be Matthew Clarke's final season, Knobel could be a good addition to Adelaide ruck stocks for the future.
6. Carlton - Mark Porter (Kangaroos)
Re-acquiring Porter will give the Blues a reliable veteran in the ruck that they haven't had since he left the club a few seasons ago.
7. Kangaroos - Mark Stevens (Adelaide)
A risky pick given he has been very injury prone lately, Stevens re-joins the Kangaroos to assist Drew Petrie across the half forward line.
8. Fremantle - WAFL Player
Freo would probably select a young Western Australian who was suprising over looked in the national draft.
9. West Coast - WAFL Player
See Fremantle comments but subsitute Freo with West Coast
10. Melbourne - Kayne Pettifer (Richmond)
With the retirement of Peter Vardy and a change of scenery, Pettifer has a chance to stake a claim at becoming a regular AFL footballer. Melbourne seems like a good fit.
11. Essendon - Justin Blumfield (Richmond)
Essendon welcome back an old favourite son and I'm sure Blumfield can return to form as Sheedy has a knack of recycling and reinventing players who seem to be at the crossroads.
12. Sydney - James Podsiadly (Werribee)
Podsiadly had a good year in the VFL and is training in Sydney prior to the draft so they are interested in the former Collingwood rookie list player. Could be a good choice as a depth key forward or defender.
13. Geelong - Anthony Franchina (Carlton)
A suprising choice since Franchina didn't play at all last season but Geelong could use a tagger to release Cameron Ling into a more attacking midfield role were he can be more damaging.
14. St. Kilda - Cain Ackland (Port Adelaide)
After losing Knobel, St.Kilda select Ackland who is a similar sort of player to help Blake in the ruck.
15. Brisbane Lions - QAFL Player
I don't think Brisbane will make a selection but if they do they'll select a young Queenslander.
16. Port Adelaide - SANFL Player
See Brisbane comments but subsitute Brisbane with Port Adelaide and Queenslander with South Australian.
17. Richmond - Steve McKee (Collingwood)
Given the tigers delisted about eight players I'm pretty sure they'll make another selection. I think they'll be looking for another tall and McKee would be a handy backup player for Tigers. They could draft Mark Graham and Kris Barlow instead but the fact that they would only have a maximum of two season left means that they'll likely favour the younger McKee.
