A few points.

1. There seems to be a bit of an undercurrent of hostility that has crept in recently towards any poster from another team that comes onto here to offer a point of view. While this board is a home for Brisbane Lions supporters it isn't our own little fiefdom where we can just tell people to bugger off. If posters from other teams are offering a point of view it doesn't automatically mean that they're trolling, it is possible to have a valid opinion on another team. Please try to keep that in mind when engaging with other supporters here, having good posters from other boards adds another level of perspective and quality to a conversation, we don't want those quality contributors fearful of coming on here. Please be polite!

2. With that in mind it's worth noting the below reminder in circumstances where there is blatant trolling.

To help us out, please report posts from trolls rather than engage them in conversation. It just saves us having to clean it all up later.

Most of you will have noticed a new sub-board has been added for the women's team. At this stage we are thinking that the new sub-board will house the player rosters (basically the same as the male player roster sub-board) with general women's football discussion to be kept on the main lions board. So if you find any media content on specific players then by all means post it in the player roster sub-board. If you want to discuss anything to do with the women's comp more generally then feel free to create a thread on the main Bris board or post in an already opened thread!

If anyone has any strong opinions one way or the other as to what we do with the new sub-board we are all ears!

Can people start having a think about which thread they are posting in. There have been a myriad of non football related posts on our main lions board in the last week. I'd like to take time to remind you that the main board is largely for talk about footy related items and that The Den which is located here https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/forums/the-den.156/ is your place for more general discussion. You'll find threads already exist for items such as sport and politics but if there's something non footy related you want to discuss The Den is the place for it.

If it continues we will be more likely to stop moving posts to the correct location and just start deleting them outright.

Hi Mods,

Just a suggestion in relation to the 2017 preseason thread if you are not intending to do this anyway.

I think its now accepted that it has derailed from discussion about preseason (as there is presently no preseason training) and it is where users go for venting, in jokes etc. Others have called for closing the thread, but why not just keep it open and once training resumes on the 9th, move all posts from about page 51 until that point somewhere else. Will make it much easier for anyone going back looking for info on Lions preseason.

Probably letting everyone know if you are going to do this or something similar to reduce some of the bickering.

Usually we have a lot lot less posts made over the off-season and preseason. This year it seems that our post count is up but the content is about the same as previous years. Once training reports start coming out regularly the thread will take care of itself as there's actually stuff to talk about, and if it doesn't we'll have a look then.

The attacking/abuse/ridicule directed at other posters has to stop. People are getting real sick of it, as are the mods. No poster has the right to post in a way which intends to upset another poster. If you are attacked, abused or ridiculed by a poster this does not give you the right to reply in kind. Please just report any such post and the mods can delete or edit the offending content.

So this serves as a warning to everyone. The mods will be cracking down on this kind of behaviour publicly and if people don't get the message then unfortunately some may find themselves with a day off.

Not only does the behaviour ruin the experience of the forum for the person on the receiving end it also ruins it for the majority of posters who want to discuss things in a normal manner and who couldn't care less about the petty arguments.

Attack the discussion and arguments put forward by other posters with substantive content, don't attack the individual.

If you have an issue with a thread derail getting out of hand, don't add to it and post yet another derailing post in the same thread, contact one of the mods and raise it with them.

Time for my annual reminder to report troll posts rather than reply to them. Makes our job much easier when we have to clean things up.

A big thanks to Dylan12 for his work again this year in keeping the Roster Watch thread up to date and full of the latest content on each player. Its certainly one of, if not the best player library on bigfooty and certainly wouldn't be half as comprehensive without his hard work. I doubt i speak out of turn when I say its much appreciated by everyone on the lions board.

Considering we have almost two weeks of this never ending trade period to go, I think it's worthwhile to lay out a few things:

- Opposition supporters - we enjoy your contributions but if you're not here to post constructively then expect to have some problems. Our patience runs pretty thin around this time of year. But please feel free to post in our trade hypothetical thread where you can compete with our own supporters for the most unrealistic trades involving the most number of sides at the one time.

- While I've been happy to see that this hasn't been as much of a problem so far this year, make sure that if you are posting a rumour or story that you reference or link where you've heard it from. In the case of SEN or Trade Radio, make sure you mention who made the comment as there is usually a lot of unrealistic speculation from the callers and the useless hosts. I will also be keeping the trade news compendium thread up to date with relevant stories if you're looking for a quick and easy way to stay current.

- This is more of a warning but remember to play the ball, not the man. Tempers can get out of control during the trade period so focus on the content of people's posts and don't get personal.

- Report trolls rather than engage them. Makes it easier to us to deal with them and usually gets threads back on track quicker. We do have the power to thread-ban those that aren't adding constructively to the conversation.

Can I add that it helps not to jump down the throats of opposition supporters? Often they actually do come in peace, but don't have the depth of knowledge about our club. Gives a much better vibe if you just take the extra few seconds to politely explain why every opinion they hold is wrong rather than telling them to simply piss off. It also gives you a healthy glow of moral and intellectual superiority.

If you haven't read the last few posts in the Springfield thread please do so, and then get on whatever media you have available and harass the alp to match the LNP funding. Nows the time to put our money where our mouths are and take some action

A quick reminder on posting news articles:
  1. It's much appreciated.
  2. Please include an extract (a few most relevant paragraphs) to help kick along discussion, as it keeps the conversation on BF and doubly helps when the article is behind a paywall.
  3. Please don't quote the entire article. This is a BigFooty-wide policy and has been for a while.

We have had the benefit of dealing with some reasonable supporters recently, however that looks set to change.

From experience a lot of the posters who may be venturing to the board following the Beams news will not be subtle in their trolling. If possible the best thing to do is to report the post and not reply.

To opposition posters there will be zero tolerance. If you come to the board to troll and disrupt during this period you will be receiving a ban.
