mods,

What's the rule on quoting content from another team's board, into a thread on the Lions board, but not tagging the user?

Allowed or nah?

We generally frown upon it because it's never done for a good reason but mainly done to take stuff out of context, even if it's not tagged/normally quoted. If you want to comment on a post, comment in the thread it was made in. If you don't feel you can make that comment there, maybe you shouldn't be making the comment.

Understood, thanks for the clarification!

k I think thats enough with the continual back and forth pot shotting at each other. Deleting and carding starts next.

I think people on both side need to keep in mind the following

1) those who are outraged at beams even thinking of leaving or trading high draft picks for players and are denigrating everyone who isn't as outraged as them need to remember that people on the other side of the fence are still concerned, or even upset themselves at what could be happening. Ridiculing someone for having the opinion that this isn't the end of the world is just as poor as ridiculing someone because you think they are "overreacting". They also need to keep in mind that all these scenarios are only possibilities that are yet to occur. Getting outraged at something that hasn't happened yet may be a bit preemptive. No problem having issue with beams leaving, but having issue with the specifics of a trade for beams that hasn't even occurred actually is a little over the top.

2) Those who are bagging people for "overreacting" need to give people a bit of leeway as well and remember that footy brings out a wide range of emotions in people with varying degrees of reaction. Denigrating them without reasoning is not on and makes you worse than the post you're replying too. Now if you want to take issue with a post then fine, but condescendingly asking if people are "ok" not only makes you look like a prick, but also degrades the actual purpose of asking someone if they're ok. Now if you're genuine thats fine but if you are I think it would be better to do so in private rather than on an open forum, realistically what sort of response do you think you'll get in that environment? Any such posts will be treated as they are largely intended, a condescending troll of other posters.

Having said all that, if someone genuinely tries to question your post and reasoning and you answer with posts like "i guess you're just happy with getting bent over" and the like then you will start to be treated as a troll and will be carded accordingly. Rebutt the post with a reasoned argument. Also the use of  symbol will be dealt with harshly going forward.

If you have a comment to say on neds and our sponsorship contain it to the appropriate sponsorship thread. Bringing it up constantly in other threads will no longer be tolerated especially if directed in response to other content posted by Lions_Insider

We are very lucky to have someone from the club engaging with us here, there is no need to sabotage that initiative. If you want to discuss the matter with the club take it up with them directly via email or phone. If there continue to be pot shots thrown at someone who had no role in the decision then there will be sanctions

So despite this being raised a number of times over the past few months it seems some posters still don't get it. The mods continue to observe behaviour which doesn't meet a bare minimum level of acceptable conduct. We are also receiving a consistent flow of PMs from posters who are fed up with this poor behaviour and who want to see a very basic level of decency enforced on the board. The view that we, and it seems other posters have taken, is that a small minority of posters have been ruining it for the majority who just want to have reasonable conversations without having to read through a mountain of unreasonable, dull and miserable content that serves no purpose.

We are not talking about censoring what people say unreasonably nor are we saying only post nice things - absolutely be critical. What we are talking about is setting a bare minimum basic standard of behaviour, which is appropriate for a community style forum like Bigfooty. If you want to post whatever you want unchecked then go to Facebook.

Reading through the gameday thread from today's game the following posts do not meet even the most basic test for what is considered acceptable behaviour and to be honest, they are downright embarrassing posts. The below posters should be genuinely embarrassed.

Rayner is a dead set spud

Hipwood you dead set moron.

Everyone has now received enough warnings and as such we are going to start enforcing the above so that this board can be an enjoyable place for the vast majority of posters who make this place worthwhile. For those posters who are unable to meet this basic standard, we will begin to remove your access to this board until you can.

You realise others also commented in a similar vein about Hipwood’s ridiculous free he gave away, yet you cherry pick the post and others by the more unpopular posters. Why not highlight every other single post? What a surprise.

I took the worst examples. I could not care less about who posted the comments and care even less about your perceptions of 'popularity'. It has nothing to do with anything. It is just another thing of fiction. Something else for you to hide behind and blame instead of addressing your own behaviour.

Whatever, if calling someone a moron for giving a ridiculous free away is the worst that that thread had to offer, you’re kidding yourself. Hell, even Eric, his teammates and Fagan would’ve thought he was a moron for giving away such a dumb free at a crucial period of the game. And no it wasn’t personal, but at least I haven’t personally mugged people off in the manner you just have.

If people continue to choose not to self moderate their own postings it will be done for them. There is a minority that is completely ruining the experience on this board for a large number of people who are starting to get vocal about it. Dylan12 if you don't find the rules of this board paletable for you, or accept that the continual bombardment of people with a constant theme or vitirol is wearing thin then you are welcome to find another platform to express your views that doesn't perturb a large majority of users of that platform.

Seperately this conception that the gameday thread is a free for all where you can say whatever you want is completely inaccurate, it works the same as every other thread, however the mods footy fans too and like to watch games without having to read every post in a gameday thread. So if people don't like something they are free to use the report button. This is not a vehicle for you to rant away so you don't upset your family or friends. People on this site deserve the respect to come here to talk about football and not get the worst of other peoples expressions, this isn't a dumping ground, thats what twitter appears to be for these days.

Finally the use of symbols to express swearing around here has gone from occasional to rampant and is against site rules. If you can't find a way to express your view in a post without the use of swearing on here, then please don't post it. Warnings will start to be issued.

The tone of this board has gone downhill dramatically in the last 6-8 months and its time everyone involved had a good look at what they are contributing and how they are going about it. This is a community, not someones own little rant board and failure to respect the rest of the community will result in warnings and bans. The number of people expressing their displeasure at the way this board has progressed in the last few months is growing significantly.

Goodness people, we're having our best season in forever and people are carrying on like the sky is falling down here. Lets get some perspective here.

Reminder. Please stop this s**t. <-- BigFooty will fix whatever you type out for you.

In the lead in to finals we thought it timely to mention that the mods will be cracking down on behaviour which ruins the experience for the 99% of posters who do the right thing. We want people to be able to discuss things and express their opinions and just enjoy being apart of September for the first time in a decade.

As of this morning we have already handed out our first board ban. We hope not to have to do that to anyone else.

Here’s looking forward to an exciting finals campaign!

What a sucker...

We've given a fair bit of leeway in random discussions over the last few months. It's a bit of a tradition given it's the off-season, as there's bloody little to talk about otherwise.

However given we're about to head into the season proper, starting with a proper preseason game this weekend, it's time to focus back on footy.

If you want to derail threads, take it to the appropriate thread in The Den or the appropriate BF board.

(Crossposted to other relevant derailed threads.)
