This one just feels so 70s-80s authentic. Terrible for today's purposes... but as a fake nod to history it's perfect!

Shields remind me of opening a pack of footy cards in the late 80's as a kid with the stimorol gum and finding a club shield card in it.

Love that design, I would request to put in one middle stripe, and give the kangaroo white outline to separate it from the stripe.

The first time I got a club logo card in a pack, there were only 4 cards instead of the standard 5

Just thought it'd be interesting to see what they would've looked like if the VFL/AFL didn't think outside the box or "Shield"
Also I just realized all WAFL clubs have the same shield in their logos

I also quite like the styalised GWS on the left hand side as well. Definitely like to see more than that, maybe with a bit better definition with some edging in charcoal. But for the purposes of this thread, the shield logo is there on the right.

That's two Giants related items that appear to have been lifted from our FGD board designers without compensation for their work.

Not having a go or anything, but the design on the other thread was for some Brisbane Junior team, not us - not saying there is no connection, but I wouldn't have thought the Brisbane rip off is an official club thing. But the second item you speak of? Looking back over this thread the GWS shields all look different to the one on the club merch. Can you point me to the original design on this board that has been ripped off? Or was it another item I missed and not the shield? Or was it a shield in another thread? You have me intrigued now.

I'd have to agree though - that Brisbane rip off is a disgrace. OK to use it, but you have to give credit and pay the designer.

[Off topic] The Scanlens chewing gum (late 70s / early 80s) was the best. The Stimorol chewy was shite!

Yeah apparently it is Brisbane. I know the club has been trying to "recruit" Junior and community clubs to take on the name and the colours all over the place (including the London Giants) all part of the brand building, you only have to look locally to see all the copy cat Junior clubs and the Giants want/need a bit of that. I have no idea what autonomy they'd have with design and how much the club is involved. It would be interesting to find out. No excuses for the ripoff though.

As for the Shield, mate, they bear absolutely no resemblance. Different font, Greater Western Sydney above Giants not below and no mention of "football club", different colours in different places.




No fair minded person, given the starting point (our club's logo), would say that one was a rip off of the other.
