Modnation Racers

The Shells I agree with, but banana's are close to the most useless item ever in a game. The only time you'd be lucky to get a hit what when someone was right on your arse and you put it out if you were lucky enough to have it at the time. Otherwise, completely useless and would work 1 in every 30 times.

The point I'm making is, Mario Kart counters red shells by letting you hold scrappy first place items behind you by pressing L. It doesn't defend against Spike shells but it usually works. The shields in Modnation Racers barely last a second, even when you've got a full boost meter.

Probably could be a couple of defensive weapons to use in MNR, but the shield still works well from what I have played. It's not that hard to get the shield up and working in time, really don't need super fast reflexes, you get a second or two warning time. Sometimes you might not, but it's the same in Mario Kart too and you often don't have anything to defend yourself in MK either.I don't see the whole much more polish. Mario Kart is fantastic, but there's not a whole lot that MNR does poorly in comparison.

Against level 3 items, Shields simply don't work, especially against Shockwave and Missile. Given MNR is a fast paced racing game, you don't have time to straighten up and somehow time your shield use right against a level 3 shockwave (Mind you, it'll be unlikely you'll have a high boost meter, especially on some of the shitty tracks in career). It comes down to luck in the end and that's something I'm not good at aquiring.

And on the creation elements, just like in LBP there's things that you won't think can be done that will pop up. Just like MM didn't know there were things that could be done. It's amazing what can be done with a shitload of time and work ethic.

Wario Colosseum can be done. And I'd put money on it that eventually most others will be as well.

Aha, right then, lets wait and see if the user community make a worthy Mario Kart track. I downloaded DK's Jungle Park when I had the game and it was alright albeit wrong in a few areas. If that can't be done right, I doubt a far more sophisticated track like Rainbow Road can.

That's not even getting to the other important aspect of track design. Some dude can create a similar replica of another track from some other racing game, but it'll never feel like you're actually driving the track.

Rainbow Road? That was the most awful track in the history of racing games.

Did you end up keeping the game Grand Blue? Where'd you get it from? I'm still wondering whether to keep MNR, it's fun for 15 mins. Well, the 4 minutes of racing, 11 mins of loading! ;)

Can you race on user generated tracks in the online XP mode? I can't seem to work out how...

Just because you suck at it...

No, I refunded it a while ago. Last time I played it, I ragequitted due to the items being too overpowered. The loadtimes didn't help either.

Not sure. It would be stupid if you couldn't though.

My load times have improved 3 fold.

I disagree with GrandBlue, while the weapons are OP. It's near impossible to hold onto them for any length of time to use at the end of a race, as soon as i get three saved up i fire them quick smart, because ill have a plethora of rockets coming my way if im out in front.

Also there is plenty of skill required to get drift points, draft points. Useing sheilds at the right moment can see you fly ahead of rivals.

Absolutely love this game. Making tracks is the best but the racing is still awesome. I agree with what someone said previously about shields being useless but that is my only real complaint. Load times I think have gotten better than when the game was released but they still do take awhile. Game of the year for me so far but I'm sure that will change once Fallout: New Vegas comes.

First patch on the way. Cutting load times by up to 50%, adding a casual mode (read n00b mode) as well as getting you into online games faster than before.

Slashed Load Times
Yes, there are still going to be load times, but Sony is reporting that in some cases those loads will be 50 percent faster.

Casual Difficulty FTW
This patch introduces Casual Difficulty Mode. This should give people who just want to have some fun the chance to do so without having to worry about hurling a controller after getting sideswiped in the third lap.

Friends with XP Benefits
This patch allows you to invite your buddies to races and series, so go level grind!

Death to Hot Lap Cheaters
This patch will fix a bug that allowed players to cut through tracks and post ridiculous times in the online Hot Lap section.

The Ultimate Collector
Player cards -- the profile showing what you've whipped up -- will now display all of you creations and not just some of them.

Get Online Faster and Stay There
United Front Games is also fixing MNR so that you'll be able to jump into online races faster than ever.

Attain the Unattainable (Challenges)
When you download the patch, expect different completion conditions on the Devastator takedown on Wild Run, the Devastator takedown on Modobahn and the "sideswipe three opponents on the cliff side" task on Fracture.

Free Stuff
The Tin Bucket item will be unlocked for everyone! Hooray!

I'm all for a challenge but if Casual means I won't get absolutely bombarded on the third lap, it would be a huge improvement. The game programs items to come flying at you during the final lap and it drives me insane.

If anything, they needed to patch a no-items mode.

can't wait til this game goes down to 50 odd bucks

will pick it up as soon as i see it for that price!

well, well, well

the game has hit $59 at JB and the updates (including the much needed load time improvement one) are d/l'ing as i type.

i've wanted to have this game since before it even came out but the load times were just too much.
also it was obvious it would get a price plummett relatively quickly so was worth waiting out for.

anybody who has had this game on their radar i dare say now is the time to get it before it jumps back up to the 80/100 dollar mark once it starts flying off the shelves at this price (which it will since i dare say many people have wanted this game and have been waiting for a price drop)

hbk i'm looking clearly in your direction here.

It's so weird that you bought it today as just last night I was watching the GiantBomb Quick Look (my new addiction) for it and was just loving everything I saw (apart from the obvious load times, which weren't that bad in the QL actually). Best thing in the vid was them searching for GiantBomb's 'Bomb', this was literally a day after release and they were searching with no doubt it wouldn't be there but low and behold someone had made it. I loved the fact that some random person had just happened to create this random character and when they searched for it they found it.

I think the best thing about the game is the fact that you don't even have to do anything but constantly be downloading costumes, karts and tracks. The fact that they download so fast definitely makes for the want to download things in greater numbers.

I'll definitely be looking to make my way down to JB this week.:thumbsu:

Might trade in RDR tomorrow and pick this one up. Was going to do it for Mafia II but not liking the lack of value with that. Will just hire it instead.

i can COMPLETELY see grandblues issues with this game. (even though he complains about basically every game he's clearly correct on this one)

other than the great controls the game is screwed.

the amount of times you are dominating and then get absolutely freakon bombarded with attacks is ridiculous.
it just makes the racing so stop start and is a HUGE dampener on the whole experience. just really ruins the flow since basically every weapon is the equivalent to a blue shell in mario kart and if you don't have that millisecond timing of the sheild then bye bye.
on that matter the sheild is borderline useless since it works for 1 second AND it uses basically all of the boost you've saved and if you have no boost left and they decide to shoot at you then there is literally nothing you can do......where is a balance!?

also the tracks seem to be OK but i played two races online and they were user created levels and were absolutely off their ****!
i saved one of them when i realised you could...very short window to do so but to d/l them takes literally 1 second.
was so unbelievably fast and the angles were fantastic.

load times are still very long but NOTHING like they were.

overall 59 dollars payed so can't complain too much but still not that game i was hoping it was!
