Moloney > McLean.

The bloke who has a preseason will always be better than the bloke who has no preseason or an interrupted preseason.

Mclean is a better player then Moloney but people need to stop making excuses for Mclean.

He's played well in some games but shockers in others. He deserves a spray.

Shut Mclean down for the year.

It's not an excuse, it's a fact.

Colin Sylvia for example, you think it's a coincidence that he's playing his best footy after having his first full preseason?

The fact is McLean's poor year. The poor pre-season is a contributing factor.

Let's call a spade a spade though, McLean is not playing well enough. The big question is why he hasn't been put out to pasture, what does he want to prove over the next month? He'll only risk getting another injury and ruining another pre-season.

Maybe he is just such a competitor that despite things not going his way, he is determined to push through.. Rather than cracking the sads and relaxing while his teammates do all the hard work. I call that leadership , you call it want you want. But i do not see any benifits that are greater than actually having him on the park. He played one poor game , while a couple of weeks back people were singing his praise. lets lay off Brock for at least a week.

I agree that he's been poor but people are underestimating the importance of a preseason and I also agree he should be shelved for season 2009 and bring in Valenti or McKenzie to see how they go.

It is no coincidence the three players menitoned in this thread all having years according to their pre season. Moloney and Sylvia having their best years of footy due to a full pre season and Mclean is struggling because he has a restricted pre season.

You ask any player or any media person the catalyst for a good season is a strong pre season. The two go hand in hand and rarely works the other way round.

..and yet McLean gathered 37 the other week. Does the lack of pre-season only affect some games? I didn't expect him to smash Geelong. I did expect the endevour and enthusiasm shown by Moloney. Where was it?

Just because he is unfit doesn't mean he will only play bad games all year. Likewise, someone who is fit will not just play good games all year. Form varies, the key is to ensure that your better players have solid consistency throughout the year. Being unfit does not allow you to do that.

McLean has shown how good he can be, he has talent, you don't just lose that. A young player who shows a couple of glimpses here and there can excite the fans but fade away when they are forced to do it week in, week out. McLean showed than just a few glimpses, he showed he could actually impact matches against all opposition over a couple of years.

While the lack of pre-season does seem like a convenient excuse, just think about how much better Moloney and Sylvia are doing this year on the back of a full pre-season, and even someone young Frawley who has come on in leaps and bounds.

McLean was also playing on the best tagger in the league. He needs to overcome this problem but it is partially the reason behind his poor game.

A lack of pre season will affect your consistency, not to mention he wouldn't be the last player to lower his colours to Cameron Ling.

Care to elaborate?

That he is, and will be, a good to average player rather than a great one.

Cast your minds back to last year, McLean (coming off a full preseason) came 2nd in our B+F after playing 13 games.

Please, Mark Blake would have finished top five in Melbourne's best and fairest last year. Not something to hang your hat on.

Pretty funny how the tide turns. Now that McLean is leaving most supporters are evaluating his true worth. Words like "mediocre", "average" and "poor" are being thrown around.

It seems that all Melbourne supporters will now wish that Wisbey is right.

You do realise this thread is about 3 months old right? Meaning that before we knew he wanted out this is how we were describing him?
Failtroll.

Pretty funny how I am so obsessed that I went back and bumped a three-month old thread to troll Demons supporters because I have no life.

Yes, I quite agree Guy, that's a keen and insightful observation... :thumbsu:

Haha. I see what you did there. Rewrote history, kind of like what Demon supporters are doing when they discuss the ability of McLean.

Life is wonderful.
