Because McLaren used Norris to back up half the field to take Daniel and Magnussen out of the race and get Sainz up to 6th.
Renault have blown a 5th place to no points by pitting, completely undid all Daniels hard work.

In the end the gamble didn't work out but the logic was sound by Renault and Ricciardo.

He still had to put in the fastest lap of the race to end up in front of Kvyat
Disagree, to pit that early they needed to at least put on hards and give themselves an option of driving to the finish. They nuked themselves
He put in a fastest lap to only just stay in front of Kvyat. He did a superb job keeping that position.
Absolutely, Ricciardo was doing the exact same thing before the safety car!
