Angus,
I don't know what happened to turn your career around but you have and its fantastic.

Keep playing like that and I won't mind if you keep putting egg on some of our faces (mine included).

I've been one that has given him a pasting on this board and it's time to swallow my pride and say sorry.

Gus, you have been fantastic the past month and a bit and if you keep playing with that courage and commitment then you deserve to wear the Essendon jumper and become a life member of this club. :thumbsu:

i've only been saying it for 2 years thst the guy had to play in the guts and now we r seeing the rewards. He has always had the potential just under utilised.
And this also goes to the Bombers supporters who lost belief in the guy and slagged him off, i've been saying it for years now that this kid is very important to us right now.

GO THE GUS

There was x-factor about him today, and there was x-factor about him last week.

He's finding his spot at Half Forward. He's crumming has improved out of sight, and he's getting the ball in great spots.

A massive improver.

The feeling of egg running down my face has never been sweeter. I want more:eek::D

Brilliant Monfries. Just brilliant today.

I rarely criticise players. But Monfries was not delivering what was expected of an AFL player... now he has. He has also set the standard for what he is capable of. If he doesn't do this now on a consistent basis he might merely have improved his tradeability. I hope he stays because on that performance I believe he has the potential to be a leader of our proud club. Good work Gus!

I'm a believer, turned doubter who is now considering turning believer again but not quite there yet.

Excellent game today.

Really hurt them.

Happy to say I've been a fan all along and stoked to see he is proving me right.:thumbsu:

Same here! Been with him all along. Sure there was a worrying patch there but even then there was something telling me he can make it and I consider myself a good judge of a footballer! If he is ever traded it will come back to bite us.

I've always liked him but I was nearly starting to doubt him. Lets see him do it again next week.

Consistency is the key.

I think that summed me up as well.

Early fan. A bit dissapointed after that, but still not willing to give him up, but have seen a real change in his last month.

Really loved that mark in the goal square today. Guts and class combined. That summed his game up I think.

i second that. he's been my favourite bomber since the day he was drafted (literally), and i'm absolutely over the moon he's showing those 'monfries is shit, trade him now' posters that he is capable of showing what he has always promised. he reminded me of hird today. and before i get someone saying 'how can you compare the two?', i'm obviously not directly, but i mean today, at least for gus' standard, he was everywhere, and everything he touched turned to gold (even his misses at goal usually resulted in somebody else crumbing for a score), and he gave the team and crowd such a lift whenever he neared the ball.
obviously it'll be hard to replicate that sorta game every week, but gee, was he good today!

definitely an outstanding effort today, but not sure if I'd lock him into the forward 50 just yet. He does fill a key role with our otherwise very tall forwards, but I think he's still better at setting up goals rather than kicking them. I'm more hopeful of Lovett being the key small forward, even though he only explodes in bursts

There were some saying last year was going to be his breakout year. Have you seen him close up he is a kid. Most play their best football between 23 and 29 yo and Monfries now is 21. The best is yet to come and anything is possible from this guy.

Well Done Gus.

Turning point for me was the Sydney game.

He needs to keep it up, but geez we so often forget and are so quick to dump players.

Anyone remember the Bartel bashing and consistent trade talk a few years ago - now he is untouchable.

What I am saying is sometimes guys just take longer to mkae the step required. Look at Hille - in limbo land for so long, now one of our best few each week and one of the main cogs in our team.

Time is not always an enemy.
