went to the game yesterday and had a blast
monfries was incredible
every time he neared the ball you could sense something was going to happen
his 4 goals were great - lifted the supporters
but i was more impressed with his leading and always providing an option
there was one bit of play where i watched him lead at least 120 metres to get the ball when no other bomber gave an option
and that mark in the square - havent screamed that hard in a long time

go gus! good luck for the rest of the season!

My critisim of him wasn't his ability to find the ball or use it, I knew he could do both of those things and do them well, I was concerned about his selfish leading and him flying instead of crumbing and I wanted him to go to Bendigo as a result.

He's fixed both of those things and he's lifted his work rate.

I'm a believer, turned doubter who is now considering turning believer again but not quite there yet.

Excellent game today.

Really hurt them.

You are now looking for consistency?

He was sensational on the weekend, but Angus now needs to string games together, doesnt need to dominate each and every game like he did on the weekend, just needs to be involved each game, raise his minimum output so that he is always a threat to the opposition.

If he keeps his work rate up then there shouldn't be any problems. I think that was one of his best games his played. I remember the Lions game when he kicked 5 as slightly better.

That performance wasn't a patch on Sunday's.

He kicked goals late when we were virtually out of the match in that game, against Carlton he was instrumental at the most important time; the start of the match. He was one of the main reasons for the lead we had.

I mean't to post this earlier. Did anyone see the Carlton V Essendon broadcast where Bruce got so excited about Monfrie's game that he referred to it being some sort of "coming out" for Monfries?

I thought I heard the sound of crickets for a short moment afterwards as Ox and Commetti digested what Bruce has said.

lol no, but bruce has a habit of saying a few odd things. and i like your avatar :thumbsu:

I think he'll grow as a player as he matures and gains that little bit more experience. Could be something special if he can blend consistency and footy smarts into his game on a weekly basis.

Good to see him have a good game!:D Just need it to be regular.... be any chance is he playing for his career IS IT CONTRACT TIME

True, but he kicked one from 45 metres out on the boundry line. I think he kicked 5 straight that day, the last couple of years he hasn't had the confidence when kicking at goals.

I was really hard on Monfries over the last year, but I've made my apologies to him as a result of his improved form over the last month and half. I think he has grown and matured as a player and finally found his niche in this club. Was particularly impressed with his efforts against Carlton and his workload in the 4 games prior to last weekend. I see no reason why he shouldn't be re-signed. Keep up the good work Gus and once again... I'm sorry for my comments in the past.

True dat. Dont they say that you need to play around 50 to 70 games before any real consistancy is built into your game? Well he is in the middle of that range so lets hope he continues to play well.

Yes, yes. He has my full support now if his last month of footy accounts for anything then I honestly believe he will develop into a great player for us.

Seems to have a better defined role in the team these days - feeding the ball into the F50, and creating contests when the opposition's taking it out

His workrate has been fantastic for the last 6 weeks & now the results are showing. Don't bake these guys too early fellow bloggers. Some mature as ready made senior footballers & whilst others struggle coping with being away from home/lifestyle changes & the whole limelight of being AFL player.
