Not sure if he is getting too comfortable as he does a lot of extra work at training but i agree he hasnt done enough this season. I was hoping he would be doing a bit in the midfield this year but it hasnt happened.

I blame Sheedy partially for this.

Monfires was recruited as a mid - yet has played as a forward. He is losing his natural ball winning abaility playing in a pocket. Yes he need to be protected, but come on, he is 20 and how many 20 year olds get fed to the wolves at other clubs. Plenty and they beneift from it.

If it means he can;t play a full season, so be it. He is a mid and should be primarily played there.

He does seem down on confidence, but that can change quickly. Not sure if the magoos is what he needs. Just has to start backing himself more -feed off of the teams confidence.

I have no doubt he'll end up a good player for us, but at the moment there's probably better options out there. I for one, don't want to feed him to the wolves. With the way he goes about it he could get seriously injured.

Instinct takes you only so far. You get rusty, lose confidence and yes lose your natural ability to win the footy. You also need to be developing it - always improving if you just want to keep up with the rest.

and yes, he could get seriously injured, but so could everyone. He has had 2 pre-seasons. I think his size issue is becoming a cop out.

Sometimes I think people confuse courage with talent.

As mentioned at the start is he just going to become a poor mans Luke Ball with no real assets except the ability to run with the flight of the ball now and then.

We need more bite at ground level around contests and he doesnt give us that at all.

Don`t agree, obviously he will present himself on a lead, most forwards do, but with Lloyd and Lucas and God knows who else leading Monfries would not be considered a leading forward in the stict sense. He`s a small forward who has to make the most of any scraps that come his way

Yes, that's the what he should be doing, but he isn't.

He should only be presenting a lead after Lucas and Lloyd have gone. He should be leading in behind them, or busting hit gut to get front and square of the contest. He isn't doing either.

I think he's trying.
However is just running to the wrong spots at the moment.

I have my doubts on him personally. Maybe he's just someone thats got the most out of his ability to get to where he is now.
