In the context of his entire season to date (not just today's game) i think we would be better served letting him go back to the 2's and earn his place in the senior side again. I honestly believe he will make it as a player for us in the long term but so far this year his performances have not been up to par. With basically a full healthy team available after the break i think this would be the best thing for Essendon as a whole.

Monfries reminds me of the kid in high school that was smaller than everyone but had lots of guts and skill.
People used to love watching him play because he used to take it up to the bigger boys and might win out occasionally.
More often then not the bigger boys would toy with him and win.
Should be played on ball in the VFL for the rest of the year.

Almost half the draft are regular players.
I agree with ant here daytripper. Whilst it was a good draft nothing special came after pick 50. Last years draft there has been some good stuff after 70 so last years >>>>>>> year in question draft. Wont get full picture from drafts until 4-5 years after as some kpp take time to develop.
In this draft Andrew Lee was highly rated just has had injuries, if and when he gets a clean run at it you might see why we picked him up. Monfries was highly rated also and had steadily improved until this year (which he has gone backwards)

10 out of the top 40 have played regular footy this year unless you consider playing 10 to 12 games in a year regular.

Problem with Monfries is that he doesn't seem to have any attributes that stand him out from other players.
He's small, he's not strong, he can't get any penetration on his kicks, his skills aren't fantastic and he isn't super smart.
Its all good to have courage, but its no use if you don't know when to use it or you can't back it up with other skills.
But who knows, he could become a very good player. Essendon must have seen something in him to pick him so high in the draft.

Guys the drat i posted was mentioned as being one of the strongest ever. I did not say there where no handy players in it but it isnt loaded with that much depth to call it one of the strongest.

I have faith. He's been a bit disappointing this year, but he has a lot going for him. I think he'll just be a 2nd string onballer, but maybe a good forward.

Give him time. This year we have seen him a bit in the midfield. He needs a good pre season in the gym to build up a bit to be more of a on-baller next season. He'll be a midfielder that pushes forward.
He just needs to be re-educated as a midfielder.
He played too many games to early in his career due to injuries and the shape of our list. Spend the remaining games at Bendigo playing in the middle and he'll be better for it.
He's going to be a good player, he just needs the time to develop into the position he was drafted to play in.
Playing AFL has actually set his development backwards.

I'm not so sure- he's a lazy forward when he should be keen, how does he become a non lazy midfielder ? Definitely a trade for the table.

it's his third season.
In a ideal world he would be making his debut this season
last year was his best season playing 21 games averaging 14.2 disposals per game and booted 22 goals
this year he has played 16 games and averaged 13.4 disposals per game and booted eleven goals.
he is not going as bad as everyone thinks. he has dropped of but not to the point were he should be traded.
give him time. needs obviously a few more pre seasons were he can build up his fitness base and learn to play in the midfield. is a smart footballer who is not scared to go and get the ball. just needs time and will improve to be a solid contributor.
