Mooney above all else at Geelong would put the team first.

This, 110%. What's annoyed me about others' (mainly opposition supporters) view of Mooney, isn't that he's overrated, a hack...whatever. It's the perception that somehow people get that he's a selfish player, or he thinks his shit doesn't stink. If anything, Mooney's lack of self-confidence has been a hindrance throughout his career and he is a club man through and through. I've got no doubt, if he was fit and Chris Scott said that they were going with some combo of Pods/Hawkins/Vardy/Brown ahead of him, he'd wear it. He's never had this overly inflated opinion of himself at all, an absolute realist. He knows what he is. A good (sometimes very good) key forward, whose peak came at exactly the right time for him and the Geelong FC. He'll bow out a Geelong champion, with no regrets, whether that's on 218 career games, or 225-230 and as a newly crowned quadruple-premiership player.

I remember the aftermath of the 2005 semi-final against Sydney. All Geelong supporters would have been furious; they'd roped us in yet again and then allowed Nick Davis to rip our hearts out. What was wrong with the players in the hoops? Why did this continually happen? Then, the camera cuts to Mooney. He was bawling...just sobbing uncontrollably. That renewed my faith in the players, it told me that they cared, even more than I do, when I was starting to wonder. Bless his heart.

@donbooger - a true and beautiful sentiment.
@MC Extra Dollop - Your post about Mooney is very evocative, and brilliantly said. You have Mooney DNA in you.

I believe we can also upgrade a rookie from next week under the 11 week rule

correct so we can have 2 upgrades if we wish
