Took 7 marks inside 50m today. Adelaide had 6 for the whole match.

And how about that kick to Selwood off the boundry line that resulted in a goal? Magic time!

46 goals for the year

Love his work. What a gun

The only thing that lets him down is his kicking for goal. Other then that he is awesome. He should break 50 goals this season, which is a great effort.

needs to kick straight and make the most of his opportunities, he did play very well though and had a lot of score assists so good on him.

Great kick that was to Selwood, and the good pass to Kelly as well, at least when he isn't scoring he is assisting.

Goal kicking is a worry though, as all Cats fans ^^ know....he could've had many 6+ goal hauls with a bit more accuracy.

He's missing the shots from 15 metres quite often, but I'm more concerned with not having pings at the 50-50s. He needs to start taking these, start kicking them, and start gaining confidence. If I was Thompson I'd force him to have a shot every time.

He's also developed an aweful stutter in his run up. He used to miss goals and look great doing it, but at the moment he looks like a genuine backman when he's lining up for goal.

He did kick that Goal in the 3rd quarter that steadied the ship. I agree he has lost his confidence in kicking at goal or he is over thinking it or something.

If that's the same one im thinking of on a slight angle just inside the 50m, he had a kick about 5 minutes later almost identical and pulled it to the left.

His contested marking and overall presence is the most valuable, but his finishing has been rather disappointing and in a close match might be just the difference.

Mooney can afford to miss a couple of opportunities here and there when he is setting up so many for his team mates! Another excellent game Moondog! Thank you!

Didn't think Mooney was alone today in not taking the onus to have a shot at goal. Has been a quite a lot of that sneaking back in our game in recent weeks. Don't know if it is an issue with confidence, or just an over eagerness to bring teammates into the game, but there were at least 3 or 4 occasions in today's game where a player should've had a shot but tried to be too cute and pass off but turned it over.

I agree, there have been many times, as with Nathan Ablett where they are within range but rather pass it off....a full time forward like Mooney shouldn't look, and just go back and slot it, but i don't blame him when he's missed a few, then he can give it off.

I definitely agree that he's not having a go at the 50/50s enough, he's just not backing himself. He needs to work on his confidence before he can start working on his kicking. However, his teamwork and assists are nothing short of amazing. That soccer kick to Selwood late in the third was mind blowing.

He is one player we don't have cover for.

If he doesn't mark he brings the ball to ground or creates.

He is our most integral player for finals success

This is probably the only thing that separates the moonman from the elite forwards in the comp. especially since he doesn't see as much of the ball (because we share it out more) as the likes of brown, riewoldt.
although can't say much for riewoldts kicking...he just gets so much of it. and T Cloke's just a big brute with no finesse.

probably where mooney is above the aforementioned stars is in his link up play...he has the best hands in the comp as a CHF, just when he follows through on the mark and gives a quick dish off to a running team mate, its a split second thing but beautiful to watch. Varcoe also has those slick hands where you can blink and suddenly the ball's heading the opposite way in the hands of corey or gaz.

it would be nice if mooney could kick 4.1 every game but i think his assist work and link play is so much more advanced than any other CHF in the comp. We love him just the way he is!

That tap shot to Selwood was Johnno freakesc stuff!

He actually meant it, which just goes to show how talented he is!

He may not always dominate like we would want, but more often than not, his presence is enough :thumbsu:

I would still like to see Mooney back himself on the long 50 mtr kicks. You can tell he is a bit unsure from time to time, and I'll accept a miss rather than see him gain 10 mtrs to someone else. He has just as good a chance as anyone else and I guess it's possible he has concerns about the blustery conditions at SS, but at the end of the day have a crack and if it pulls to one side or the other make the adjustment for the next one ;)

I agree, but is this completely related to form? Could his shin niggles be affecting his kicking? Maybe he's lost distance, turning those 50m kicks into a gamble not worth taking?

It was that Rd 14 match against the Bombers that created the self-doubt. A number of those 6 behinds were narrow misses from low percentage kicks, so I'm surprised his confidence was so badly shaken.

Moons' accuracy, for the record:
Rds 01-13: G= 32 B= 15, 68%.
Rds 14-19: G= 13 B= 17, 43%.

That's a 25% drop, so now another 1 in every 4 attempts is missing for a behind.
One positive is that Cam's taking the same number of shots, so he's still contesting as strongly as ever.

And I'd love to know how many scoring assists he and Johnno have contributed. They'd be two of the best in the competition.
