In 07 we saw a new Mooney, one that kept his cool and focused his anger on the ball.

But now that we've won the premiership, will we see Mooney return to his old violent, suspension-loving self? Or is he a changed man for good?

He's not going to slip back, he's seen what happens when he stays focused. Plus the playing group pulled him up on it before, they will do it again if it happens again. That's why this team was so good this year.

Mooney was a general in the Grand final. He was barking out orders in the third quarter and seemed to be telling the players not to sit back and be comfortable but to bury Port. I thought that his discipline this year was great. There were a few times during the year where he got involved in some push and shove and Thomson quickly sent the runner out and Moons was given a spell.

I have no problems with Mooney being an aggressive player but he needs to channel the aggression at the ball and not the player.

Mooney should get the recognition that he deserves for his discipline this year. He is one of the major keys to Geelong's success imho.

He seemed to be benched for about 10 minutes when he was caught in a push-and-shove with the opposition. Very smart coaching by Thompson, sort of like a little school kid picking a fight being put into the 'naughty corner' for a bit. Hope Ratten does it with Fev next year.... although Fev doesn't hit someone in the face he just gives away 50's but its still a undisciplined act.

He may well at some point. That point being were age catches up with him and he starts finding he can't do the things he used to leading to frustration and a return of stupid acts. Shouldn't happen for a few years though and when it does, it will be time to retire.

One word - fatherhood

I reckon this has had a massive impact on his attitude. Really helped him come of age & mature.
Precisely... I think both Mooney and Matthew Scarlett faced some home truths off- field at the end of 2006 and throughout this year that really put things into perspective for them, and forced them to knuckle down, away from football.

Mooney giving birth to Jagger and Scarlett to Charlie I think was the key factor.

to think Mooney is going to return to his reckless ways is really pushing credibility a bit. Mooney learnt a great lesson this year. When focues his passion on playing good footy he is an AA quality player. Moons wont be returning to his old ways. Just see how many tried to provoke him this year and he held it together. Pointless thread really.

Why? Is it not conceivable that he may feel he has achieved what he set out to achieve and thus not be as focused in controlling himself as he was this year?

All it takes is one brain fade. I certainly hope he keeps his new ways up. Just asking the question sarge.

one word - maturity.

big cam was a wild man as a young man, who's now grown into a wiser, older man. success is not going to diminish his growth and see him return to the rashness of youth. rather, we've seen the renaissance of a man who's ready to cement his place in football history, and play out his final years above and beyond the standard he's finally managed to achieve!

so much wrong with this post, possibly the only thing pointless about this thread.

like jim said, age, and maybe when things are not going so rosily for self and team, will tell whether this is trully a "pointless thread."
