Just a thought...

Because of his size and booming kick there has always been some discussion about him potentially becoming our CHF at some stage. Coming back from a knee injury, may be worth playing him forward for the start. Less twisting and turning, and not requiring the same fitness base. He would learn how to handle a defender, how to lead, improve his marking and structure up. The big bonus of course is that if he actually can play forward as well as midfield he becomes a real weapon.

I see his first few games just playing on the opposing wing to the footy like Mzu did when coming back from his leg injury.
Good replacement for Pav in the long term future, has to work on his marking though. He just has the athleticism and the kick at the moment.

Wing? Absolutely. On-ball? Definitely. HF? Sure. Isolated 1v1 @ FF? Occasionally. CHF? Nah.

I just don't see it myself.

i would have thought that there would be more twisting & turning in the forward line

man, i can't wait for this shit. mora's progress was something i was really looking forward to this year and his injury was like a harbinger of the shit storm of crapness that was to come. hope he carves it up in the preseason and brings the mother ****ing rain to season 2012.

Doesn't seem to have the aptitude for it. A good CHF needs to have physicality and Mora pulled out of a few too many contests in his first year to suggest he has that.

Erm, the post isn't about if he is a CHF or not. To say he needs a license to run coming off a knee injury is also not really what I think a bloke coming off a knee reco needs. I am suggesting a role in the forward line as part of his rehab is the substance of the thread.

As people have said, there is more twisting and turning in the forward line generally.

Suggesting he should start in the backline, running straight at the ball would have made more sense. At any rate I'm sure he'll spend some time in the forward line but not as a key target.

In the end, a build up of more game time on the wing is the best thing for Mora - he runs in straight lines anyway courtesy of his build and size.

I'd like to see Mora as a forward one day, but that is based on nothing more than he is about the same size as Pavlich, and Pavlich can't play go on forever.

Sandliands doesn't do a heap of twisting and turning in the forward line, and I think that MJ, Bradley and Anthony would do less twisting and turning forward than Mora would midfield.

If his knee isn't structurally sound by R1 2012 it never will be.

Not many players are 210+cm - 120+kg. Wouldn't base any theories on what he does.

So you want him to either stand in the goal square and lead out about 5-10 metres, or stand around pointing?

There's a reason why Sandilands doesn't play forward for more than 5 minutes at a time or MJ is useless up there.

Not so sure about Anthony but Bradley does a heap of repeat leads. Plus he's 8cm taller, has uncoordinated legs and moves/runs differently than any KPP out there.

But its a moot point anyway. Mora doesn't know how to play like a stand-around KPP and he is an average mark, so if he's not twisting and turning as well (i.e. playing like a proper forward) what is he adding that would be greater than what he'd add to the midfield?

There's been plenty of players coming off a knee who have slotted back into their best position in the midfield.

Exactly. But his readiness to play midfield may still be down due to the time in rehab, which is the reason I am suggesting it may be a possibility to play him forward. If he is good to go midfield, I am all for it.

He'll have finished the entire pre-season, plus he would've been up and running for ages now. No reason he wouldn't be fit enough. It'd only be a confidence thing if he's not up to it. I'd say that would be worse up forward than in the midfield, where his instinct would play a role.

Did I say that? I'd see him playing as a double CHF with Clark.

I haven't seen him played as a forward, so I can't comment on that. May I ask what you are basing that on? Regardless he does have the size to be a forward threat.

How did you feel like Palmer went after his knee reco? I have no idea how Mora will go, and happy if he can hit midfield at top pace. But he if he doesn't he is too good to be out of the side, and at the very least a part-time role out of the midfield could be a good strategy for him.

It may be, and that is a pretty individual thing. After Palmer, my expectations are pretty low.

Palmer is a good example. He looked completely lost up forward, whereas when he ran through the midfield he looked okay. He didn't have as much time to think about what he was doing; plus what he was doing came a lot more naturally to him.

The sooner Morabito can get back into the thick of it, the better I reckon.

You brought Sandilands and Johnson into it so it had to be said. They are certainly not examples of why Mora could play forward.

Anyway, I agree that he'll play forward in stints and midfield in stints. Just not as a key target - I'm basing that on the times he played in the forward line during 2010 and prior to being drafted. He struggles to get into the play, doesn't use his body effectively and isn't a great mark.

Palmer is a good example of why you don't play players out of position/role when their confidence is already shaky post-op.

Long-term I see Mora doing reverse-Pavlich and learning how to play the forwardline better and have an impact up there. But for now playing a familiar role that got him drafted at pick 4 would help him recover faster. At any rate a full-time forward line role is certainly not less hard on his knee.
