I'm not comparing him with them on pure ability at all, (that is just bloody stupid), but I am using them as examples of forwards who either a.) run their opponents into the ground by pushing up to the wings or b.) use their strength and nouse in marking contests.

There seems to be this romantic notion that gun KPF's crash packs at will and stand on peoples shoulders weekly to dominate their opponent, and that I am not sorry to say is just plain wrong.

Pav, for example, does take some brilliant pack marks, but his far more potent weapon is out-positioning and out-strengthening(?) his opponent in one on one contests, or wearing him down by smart, repititive leading into the right places. When he is double, triple and even quadruple teamed, (as we have seen so often in the past), his influence is massively lessened and he relies on his footy smarts to get the pill.

Mora has that aerobic capacity to break an opponents heart, (like Reiwoldt or Richo), and has the booming kick of a Buddy from the wings, along with a bounce or 3.

He doesn't have to be a Brett Burton to hold down CHF plus he has a young, highly skilled midfield to feed him, and the noises that Lyon is making tend to back this up.

Anyway, we shall see.

Yep, fair points. I guess we've been starved of that second pack marking monster for a while at Freo a lot of us just want one to appear and instantly
Slot in. I guess the option you mention above has been used predominantly by us since Kepler going down ( not that pack clunking was on his resume anyway ) so Mora would know the role if it was asked of him. Still reckon there'd be others in front of him for it but all good.

It feels weird to legitimately talk about where Mora is best suited....I say play him anywhere !!!!

Mora's a midfielder

His stat's on getting inside 50's speak for themselves.

You just had to watch the Peel game and although his accuracy wasn't there his kicks were booming. Mundy's repalcement with spells in the forward 50 for me

All right, money where mouth is time.

I've got a $100 that says he will be our CHF in 2016, (I reckon that next year will be the end of Pav), if his body holds up.

Only one bet and genuine.

Get around it.

I agree with you but Pav will be standing in the goal square in 2016.

So the year after Gumby takes the Coleman with 84,Apeness bags 58 in his 1st full season,Hill and Mora combine for 44 between them with Pav,Sonson,Balla and Mayne totalling a lazy 120 between them, you're betting a Bradman that we move Mora out of the midfield to CHF?
Actually a pretty attacking move I won't bet against that!!:rainbow:

Thanks for the hungee slicedndiced :):):)
I'll take you up on it, understand the conditions around him actually being on the park at the time too. I'd go one further to say that we're talking about regularly playing CHF here too - not just floating into the fwd half. while playing on a wing.in one game against melbourne. At TIO oval .
Deal ?
This is gonna be fun !!!

I like your enthusiasm but I don't think Mora is big enough to be CHF. I know he is Pav's height but Pav is old school and survives on his positioning and knowledge. The new forwards and backmen to match are 195-200cm so you don't get a chance to learn if your getting out marked all the time.

Jason Dunstall is shorter than half our midfield and he's one of the greatest forwards the game has seen. He probably would struggle to get a look-in if he was an 18 year old unless he could play midfield.

Now I'm just confused :(

Regarding that bet, what are the implications for Apeness and Moller if Pavlich is in the goalsquare and Mora is CHF?

Based on the assumption that Pav will finish next year. Apeness can go FF and Moller has a hell of a long way to go to be an AFL footballer.

Yep. I'm down with that. We can donate the money to a charity or keep it, I don't mind. I'll be keeping it, (when it happens;)), because I have to buy couldabeen a pint, and they'll probably be $50 by then with the way the prices are going in Perth. SHEEEESH!

Again. The backman can be as tall as he likes, but he has to run all day to the wing and back again. This aerial stuff of a modern CHF is way over-rated.

Dunstall is another perfect example of the theory. He was an extremely smart footballer who took most of his marks uncontested because he new where, and when, to lead. He also had some pretty special midfielders feeding him. As do we.

He, and Plugger, would still be forces in modern day footy, with the correct fitness. You don't lose footy smarts just because the current judgement, by some is that you must be Xcm's to play in a certain position. That's just bullshit.

What makes you think Mora has the smarts of a CHF?

If we just wanted someone who could run a defender into the ground Menegola would seem a good option.

Has Morabito played forward before?
I'm a little jaded after the Silvagni experiment last season. Took so much time without any results.
Play him at his natural position and let him shine there

The comparison isn't exactly a good one though, Silvagni is the slowest player on our list bar maybe Sandilands so if he doesn't mark it he's effectively out of the contest. Mora could at least provide the contest as well as the follow up. That said I'm not in favour of Mora being a permanent forward or even spending the majority of the game there, he'll be rotated through there though like all our mids will this year due to the interchange cap but he's a natural mid and will go wherever he's needed most, Fyfe style.

Yeah. My point is that he has lost enough time as it is. Asking him to play out of position is not the best idea now. Will feel like we are screwing with his playing career if we tried that and it didn't work out.

Footballing IQ may not correlate 100% with ordinary IQ,class conditioned etiquette, street smarts,rat-cunning or whatever else we use as an indicator but Mora is a bright boy.I think he's got the instinctive smarts to play most positions on the field.
Whether he plays CHF is another matter but I've no doubt he's got the smarts,skill-set and turbo-athleticism to be a weapon in that possie.
Obviously will depend on others' development and the general mix.
The bet has gone but I didn't see it as bend over and pick up a ton.

How is it out of position?

He is still basically a rookie/first year player who has yet to cement a position.

That wasn't so much a legit experiment as a case of desperate times calling for desperate measures.
