Just like to thank a few of you for helping me with your opinions on some of my geography assignment, but now I am coming to you for more help. Here are some questions I need opinions on....

1. A definition of farming..... are farming and agriculture the same? Explain

2. Why is farming such an important activity in Australia and throughout the world?

Thankyou for your help everyone

Farm'in (unlike hunt'in and gather'in) is an intentional process to efficiently utilise the general state of nature to convert raw resources into consumer goods know as primary produce.

Agriculture, like horticulture and aquaculture is an occupation that is a subset of farming.

Important in Australia because it is a major source of export earnings. Important in Europe as a overly subsidised industry to create jobs and protect a traditional rural lifestyle and culture. Important in the third world as an essential occupation to feed impoverished communities.

2. Also for trade. Countries will produce something that they are good at producing, and use it to trade for stuff that they are not good at producing.

i.e Australia produces wheat and beef and uses this as a major export. We can't produce electronics cheap enough, so we mostly import them form Japan, Korea etc.
