More Ports???

O.k i have a question for the I.T minded people on here!

I recently moved to a new estate and tried to connect my Internet again only to be told by telstra ADSL 2 is available but there are no ports currently so you cant have it. I am now using a mobile broadband router which costs a fortune and only gives me 12 gig monthly at a terrible speed which has peaked at 4 Mbps and averages around 1-2.5Mbps most days with the lowest being just over 512kb.

This BS setup is my only option right now or it is nothing and i cant live without the Internet so i have to cop it on the chin.

More to my question now and what does it involve for an Internet company to add more ports etc??? Has anyone else had this problem in new areas and then been connected after a port became available??

Just looking for some feedback as it is frustrating the hell out of me and i don't know what i can do or what course of action i should take to try and get connected. It is even more excruciating when the bloke across the road has ADSL2 and i can't get it. Grrrrr:mad:

Any thoughts appreciated!

Chism.

unfortunately you'll have to suck it up. this is extremely common and there is SFA you can do about it.

have you tried the others ( internode, iinet, Westnet, etc)

and the chances of them adding ports is remote. (esp with ruddnet coming) you can get on the wait list.

Tried everyone and NO go!

It is not like the estate is brand new so to speak and most houses were built in 2002/3 around here so they have had close to 10 years soon and it shits me to tears when they build all these new estates without the Infrastructure to support it.

Same thing happened to me, but we qualify for Ocean Broadband under the Aust. Broadband Guarantee.

http://www.oceanbroadband.net/index.php/abg

"The Australian Broadband Guarantee (ABG) is a targeted Australian Government program aimed at providing access to a metro-comparable level of broadband service across Australia.

To obtain Ocean Broadband services with free installation and modem you need to confirm that your address qualifies for a service subsidised by the Australian Government."

We get 10GB/15GB at $39.95 per month. It is slow but I am just hanging out for the NBN...

Pretty shitty that a new estate can have new houses, roads, schools, facilities but crap internet.

The ports spoken about here at at the exchange. It means that the DSLAMs installed at your exchange are at capacity. More DSLAMs would have to be installed at the exchange to allow you to connect.

Type your address in here.

Be surprised if Optus aren't available in your estate.

You have next to no chance of getting on as Telstra won't spend money on ADSL anymore and haven't done for the past 2-3 years.

The sad part is there will be at least 5 or 6 ports in your area that are marked as faulty but work perfectly fine. no one will ever go out to check though.

Well what do you know!!

TPG rang me today after i asked them over a week ago for Internet and they did not have spare ports either only to ring me up today saying they have 1 free and it is mine if i want it!! :D:D

It is only ADSL1 as ADSL2 is not available but i will still see speeds at 6mbps average and i am getting 200gb of data a month 100 peak 100 off peak which is plenty for $59 monthly.

I am rapt with this and the only sticking point was me having to buy a wireless Modem as they don't supply them like Telstra did but even this was only $100 through TPG delivered am i am just rapt to have proper Internet back!!

I have already paid for it and the Modem arrives in 3 working days and then it is all systems go as they connect me up!!

They did offer me 50gb monthly for $49 but only 10 of it was peak time and i was astounded when they said peak time is from 8am until 2am that night which leaves off peak from 2am till 8am every day!! Who the hell is on the net at those times and not me!!

You leave your computer on for torrenting and the like. 10GB is plenty just for general web surfing and some gaming etc, just have to time your downloading.

I was going to say ADSL2 there may not be any ports, but ADSL there would be, if you go with TPG you could get an off net plan which is pretty much as close to ADSL2 as you can get, it's 8Mbps
