More reason not to pick Hall?

Just picked this up from the realfooty section of The Age's web site, in an article reviewing each club. Part of the Collingwood blurb was

"However, recruit Brent Hall, drafted from South Fremantle, is battling a mild bout of glandular fever."

That'll be a major setback in his development this year, because he needed to do a lot of weight work to develop his body for the years ahead.

I certainly don't wish him any harm - far from it, but he's not having a good start to his AFL career, is he.

Besides, nothing to do with the above, from what I've seen of Krueger and Hudson in the pre-season, the club's got it pretty right IMO. We'll get a better idea in the weeks to come.
No doubt we will be monitoring Hall's progress with interest. Still only early days & you can't read too much into pre-season training ... but Krueger looks like a good pick up. Would have thought the likes of Stiffy are happier now than draft day!

I must agree that at this point in time Krueger looks far more advanced and promising than Hall.
All the Hype created pre draft had Hall as a champion - may happen, but a lot of water to go under the bridge yet.

Stiffy, you assume he is going to be a great player. Look at the history of draft picks, especially at that end - there is a HUGE chance he will turn out to be nothing at all.

absolutely spot on.

There is a gamble with every draftee. Who is to say that Watts won't be a flop. My beef all along has been that Hall is a better prospect than Krueger and if I was a betting man I would put my money on Hall to make it at AFL level.

He is a 17 year old kid. You cannot question his onfield attitude. He is the bloke that gives his all EVERY time he plays. Quite frankly I would love to have his onfield attitude in every one of our player. Hall's scope of improvement is much greater than Krueger's. Brent Hall is leadership material player. He will need time to mature like a every other 17 year old. Doesn't it tell us something that he was chosen to be a vice-captain of one of the most talented WA sides in year? Doesn't it also say something that he was the number 1 ruckman for a WA side despite higly rated Bradley being the more fancied tall?

As a 17 year old you blab crap. I know I did.:) The bottom line is Hall is a better prospect than Krueger. I would absolutely LOVE to be proved wrong but as I said if I was a betting man my money would be on Hall. In 2-3 years time he will start showing us all why he was rated 2nd best ruck prospect in the draft.

If any of that were really true, he wouldn't have slipped so effortlessly. It sounds like you just want to cling to your pre-draft assessment of him.

And remember, Craig Parry is still young and has time to develop, and has dominated the ruck, despite his slightly shorter-than-average height, against every ruckman, in the SANFL, a FAR, FAR more difficult competition than U/18s, yet you wrote him off for AFL ruck straight away.

Hmmm...yet Hall could make it? Double standards...

Hmmmmmmmm.....and where the hell was Hall playing last year??? U/18's - I think not. He was playing in the ruck for South Freo.

I hope that Kreuger turns out to be a great player for the club, and don't care if he can ruck or not. I think we have enough cover now. Collingwood made the GF and they don't have anyone who can ruck at all......Fraser is a great player but can't stand anyone who runs straight at him in the centre bounces.

Carn' the mighty Crows.
