The beleaguered Kangaroos were dealt another blow today when star defender Glen Archer was charged by the AFL investigations team for man-handling Neil Kerley during last Friday's Ansett Cup semi-final against Port Adelaide.
Already reeling with David King, Anthony Stevens and Brent Harvey found guilty of interfering with non-playing personnel, the Kangaroos face further trouble after the unsavoury incident at Football Park. Archer reportedly was upset with Kerley's boundary line comments during the second quarter, and threatened the South Australian footballing legend with the words "Shut your *expletive* mouth or I'll *expletive* shut it for you", before tonking Kerley over the head with the Channel 7 microphone and stealing his earpiece.
Fortunately for Channel 7 viewers, Kerley's loss of communication with the main commentary box had no effect on his performance, since he's always crapping on about something completely different than the commentators and no discernable difference could be detected on Friday.
Archer will face a disciplinary hearing tonight, with tribunal members expected to be placed behind protective glass to prevent any further interference with officials.
League sources are reportedly pleased that the Kangaroos missed the Ansett Cup final, since the safety of the pre-match entertainment crew, including lil Nicky Webster who will sing the national anthem, could not have been assured if the Kangaroos were on the ground at the time.
Meanwhile, Federal Police are still hunting for Roos utility Troy Makepeace, who has allegedly been stalking Prime Minister Howard for a number of weeks.
