Davey suspended by Leadership Group

MELBOURNEfc's Aaron Davey has been suspended for a week of AFL football for unprofessional preparation in the lead-up to his Round 14 match against Brisbane.

Davey, was in Darwin during the week leading into Round 14, attending a close friend's mother's funeral.

Davey volunteered his lack of preparation and unprofessionalism during his time in Darwin to the Leadership Group once he returned to Melbourne. The group recommended to the Match Committee that Aaron play a week at Sandringham as a sanction.

Davey is now unavailable to play for MELBOURNEfc this Sunday against the Western Bulldogs and will line-up for Sandringham against Williamstown on Saturday.

why would u suspend someone just because they went and see their friend mother's funeral. Very weak decision to suspend someone like that..

Its not the decision to go to the funeral, it's what he did while he was up there

I'm tipping he was blind drunk at the wake...
It was in Darwin, enough said.

Pretty decent effort from Flash though, he'd only been in the leadership group for a couple of weeks. Straight back out of there.

Maric to finally get a run?

He's still in the leadership group, and so he should be. He was the one that turned himself in FFS.

Ah my mistake, thought it said "suspended from" rather than "suspended by" leadership group. Either way, not a good first impression.

I don't get part of that article though.

If it was in the lead-up to Rd.14, and he volunteered the information as soon as he got back, why wasn't he suspended for the Brisbane game?

Smells fishy to me.

Obviously more 2 it..

Its a rael shame though, he is very very important to us being competitive, epecially against a team like the bulldogs!!

Good decision though, I like the tough love approach, our culture is really developing!

Thats the main thing, its not harsh at all!!

Is that you Bails?

We bloody dont have enough players to field a semi decent team. Our players should really be avoiding these suspension situations. We are greating with on field behaviour, tho it seems our players love to get on the piss at the wrong times : Sylvia, Carrol and now Davey.

Sylvia and Carrol yes, but it isn't the worst time for Aaron. He'll only miss one game that is close to unwinnable in any case. Apologies for the negativity, but I'm just saying if he had to transgress its probably the best possible time for him to do so from the club's perspective.

He was drinking after the funeral and missed his flight.
Fair call and a good call... Bails and the boys are starting to build that premiership club culture... This is a good sign... No one is bigger than the club, I like it.. but he will be sorely missed against the Dogs.

The penalty fits the crime and there is plenty of upside in Aaron missing for a week.

However, Miller, Bate, Wona and Sylvia are now the only genuine forwards locked in for a game this week and I wouldn't want to move Bruce and Green from the midfield. Valenti and Morton can play HFF back surely one of Newton or Maric has to be considered.
