More Thoughts About our loss

Re: i just woke up...

I just woke up from a fanastic dream. We'd won a premiership, and we were playing like champions, not millionaires. We'd stopped handballing to blikes under the pump, our forward line could hold a grab and our disposal was crisp and accurate.

*sigh*
Its called pressure. Collingwood put to much pressure on, and we were not ready nor able to cope.

Well done to them.

Re: We Are Geelong! We Will Bounce Back!

I dont no why everyone is so worried. Im over it. We played like shit and Collingwood out-classed us. I am frustrated at the way we played, but I know we wont play like that again.

Re: Last night more important to Collingwood

Best post I have read on this site in the past 12 hours.

I hate coming on the Geelong board when they are all like this.

Top post mate.

Re: We Are Geelong! We Will Bounce Back!

Last night was a mere aberration.

What ever the hell you do, FFS, beat Hawthorn on behalf of the whole competition.

Re: A "good" loss?

no such thing as a good loss,
points, confidence, and the opponents fear have been lost.
i stayed to the end but i wish i hadnt.

Re: About ready to give up...

Scotty, unfortunately giving people the avenue to speak their minds we have to consider that some are not going to be in the same context as ours.

I will agree with anyone that, and I'm sure along with the players, last nights performance was terrible. However, I know that the guys will bounce back.

Like yourself, I know the world isn't caving in, nor the sky is falling, however we should allow those to speak their minds so able minded people can alert them to such terrible consequences.

Go Cats!

Sorry to spin a constructive observation your way, but in the bigger picture the loss may prove to be important (e.g. North round 5… Port round 21).

I can count the wins the Dees have had over the last year on one hand - I wish it was the losses I could count on one hand like you fellas. A minor set back for a champion team so don't give it a second thought. You guys will win the flag this year :thumbsu:

Disappointing... but I'd hate to play us this week

Reminded me a bit of a certain North Melbourne game last year (obviously not the margin)

Couldn't have played any worse, beaten by a good team, heads hanging low etc. etc.

Big difference though;
Last year - Had won sweet FA, 2-3
This year - Reigning Premiers, 8-1

I feel another Chappy spray coming on:D

Look out Carlton....

Re: A "good" loss?

A loss to Collonwood is never a "good loss"

Let's be frank we strung some pretty patchy performances together this year and waited for individual brilliance to pull us out of the poo at vaious stages (ala dockers/saints reliance on a few).

Without placing the blame one just one player I'll mention Mooney as one who needs to wake up and take some responsibility. His performaces this year have been well below par and some of those dropped marks last night were under 12's mistakes.

Time to start playing for each other again

Re: We Are Geelong! We Will Bounce Back!

I totally agree with everything said thus far. Bouncing back is what great teams do, I'm sure we will do just that.

I think the overuse of the team 'reapeat' and 'dynasty' have been used a bit too much in the press and on these boards, it changes who we are in comparison to last year.

Our beliefs last year was that it could have been taken away at any opportunity, so we invented the lid. This meant a fair bit, even to the team itself.

There is a very fine line between being cocky and having self belief, I think last nights loss will redefine that within the team. Which I believe will be good for us.

Definitely will bounce back. I'd hate to be a Carlton player next week.

Re: About ready to give up...

On BF. Honestly I think I like the postings of about 10 people on this board now days. And it isnt even because I agree with them, its just because they think before they post. I like the odd tongue in cheek post, maybe a joke here and there it doesnt have to be serious, but people on here now days are just ____ing ________s.

Okay so this game was a horrible performance but the reaction for most people on this board is nothing but stupid and disgraceful.

Ridiculous!

(I might start getting abusive so get your yellow cards ready mods!!)

why shouldn't ppl be passionate. Why shouldn't we demand the best from our blokes everytime they pull on the jumper.

It will take a major stumble for the team not to make the top 4. But accepting a 10 goal drubbing to Collonwood and passing it off as a "good loss" without the slightest bit of player analysis isn't what this board should be about.

I coudn't give a stuff if I don't fall into your top 10 poster circle jerk but I'll say it like I see it and last night was rubbish.

how can you say that the port loss was beneficial? you dont know what would have happened if we had won, if we had lost to port in the gf everyone would have said "yeah well they did have the wood over them" ect. i know that this didnt happen (thank god) but i hate hindsight experts (you not just mate).

just because great teams never go undefeated doesnt mean that it cant be done, stop accepting this loss people! if we were bottom middle or top, 13 goals is still a disgrace. im not saying that we need to win every game but at least show some fight... i hope bomber gives them a spray and i want some finger pointing.

forget the 8 wins and focus on this game as what it was. a pounding from an average team.

Re: A "good" loss?

The worst aspect was that we surrendered. No matter where it is or when it is we should never give in.

It's over. Now for Carlton. As Gary Lyon said on Footy Classified after a Melbourne caning, the real test of a club is how they perform the week after a belting.

Re: A "good" loss?

You guys were without Chapman and Ottens, would've been a lot closer if they were in.

Re: About ready to give up...

Geelong supporters are a cynical lot. Even when we were winning many would find a reason to complain about something. Our lads are only human and they had a bad night. In fact a bad game like this has been on the cards now since we played Freo. The boys have looked disinterested in games past even though I know they aren't. Collingwood played like they wanted to win and they weren't going to roll over once we put some pressure on them like other teams have this year. I wonder if there is a premiership hangover at the club. Funny to think we could be 8/1 with a premiership hangover but the team lacks that spark it had last year. Maybe it is fitness, maybe it is attitudes, or maybe it is a combination of everything.

Everyone take a chill pill. One loss is not the end of the world. Many here have posted that they would expect 4-5 losses for the year a few months ago. Top 4 with preferrably top 2 would be our goal for the end of the season and we are still well and truly on track for that.

The rest is up to the Club how they respond to the loss. Let's hope it shakes them out of their malaise and they start to play the way we know they can.

There's a big difference between being passionate and being stupid mate. Saying things like "*player* is ____ing useless, he should be shot because he can't ____ing kick it blah blah blah etc" are not passionate, which is mostly what we saw after last night. No one in this thread said the loss was acceptable either (only one poster in another topic said that), the OP said it was a horrible game which is hardly calling it a good loss.

Nailed it in one CF! great post.

Re: Disappointing... but I'd hate to play us this week

While I'd like to think (and hope) that the boys will come out all guns blazing next week, I'm not so sure that it will actually happen.

The team was at rock bottom after the R5 North loss last year and things were alot more desperate.

There are some things they aren't doing as well this year; intensity is down, lack of defensive pressure/tackling, over-possessing the ball, some players down on form, etc. I just don't know if they will be jolted into action in the space of one loss - I hope they do but I just don't know.

But what I do know is that great teams bounce back after a disappointing loss, so it will interesting to see the mental strength, intensity, tackling of the team when they take on the Blues and we get to see exactly what effect last night's insipid effort has had on the boys.

Go Cats:mad:
