The Coach know it as fact Tibbles.

The Murphy trade only happened in the last hour and the Powell one hasn't even been 100% confirmed yet as Carlton can't get in touch with him but the Tiges have agreed to it.

Murhpy was interviewed by 3AW in the last 5 minutes confirming the trade to Geelong.

Didn't have a clue about it at the B&F last night but an hour ago Carlton rang and said you're off to Geelong he said.

3AW also confirmed the Powell move from Richmond to Geelong.

So far a radio station has confirmed it, but no TV or Internet sites - barr this one.

If it is true, it could be exactly what Geelong need to push themselves into the top 4. I've heard that Mitchell White also has nominated Geelong as his preferred club and the clubs are working out a possible trade, as this stage it appears that either or both Adam Houlihan and Carl Steinfort will be heading to Perth.

I'd like to know the details of the Murphy-Geelong deal, it surely wouldn't be for draft picks as Geelongdon't really have any to swap. Having said that, Geelong clearly don't care about the draft this year.

If Geelong get White and Murphy along with Kingsley (not too sure about him as a player though) they are set up for a tilt at the Bombers next season.

With a finals game played this year, and the introduction of Premiership players White and Murphy, they look set up for 2001.

Go Cats 2001.

What do Richmond get in return of Powell?

Hamill??

gocatsgo,

I'm not surprised that you are so happy with Murphy heading to Geelong if it is true.

For Carlton to agree to the trade, I would assume that you would be trading a good quality player or an early draft pick.

Obviously he didn't reach any great heights since returning from the knee injury but you would expect him to be back to full fitness and form after a good pre-season

This trade has certainly came out of the blue.

Geelong are giving Carlton their first round pick (No 10 I think)

gocatsgo,

I realise that the draft is not a high priority for Geelong this year and that you have quite a few good quality young players but do you think it is dangerous that your team is not going to have much young blood coming into the club?

I agree that Murphy and White (if trade organised) are decent pickups and you have also got Kingsley (jury is still out on him) but surely a few youngsters would be necessary too.

Perhaps you might be trading some of your existing players for draft picks before Tuesday.

I thought Murphy was at Carlton in 1995? I guess he was still at Richmond at the time. My mistake.

As Sainter said, he hasn't had pre-season and had no fitness this year after doing his knee. Once he gets a pre-season behind him he will be a valuable asset to the Geelong midfield. He is still only 24.

Geelong believe they have enough young talent at the club to not worry too much about the draft this season.

The likes of Spriggs, Clarke, Wocjinski, C.Mooney, Ling, Harley, Corey, Foster, Chapman, Rahilly, Bray, O'brien, Scarlet, Street, Baldwin and Woolnough (id his knee holds up) are the players who Geelong will look to in the future. That's 16 players.

Added to that, the likes of King, Graham, Bizzell, Milburn, Houlihan and Steinfort (if they are not traded) all have about 5 years experience and are still the oldest of this group is 24.

Every team gets at least 3 draft picks, so there will be 3 new faces at the club next season to keep the player rotation ticking over.

There is no doubt that Mark Thompson believes that the current group of players has the makings of a Premiership team and that is why he wants them to stick together next season and not concentrate on re-building. That happened in 2000, now it's time for results.

Apparently Hammil is at StKilda.

Ricky Olarenshaw to North for pick 37.

Carl Steinfort to Collingwood for pick 44.

Those haven't been officially confirmed.

Apparently Olarenshaw and pick 39 went to North and pick 37 went to Collingwood. So he is pretty much for free.
