Mosquito fleet

It's worth a try. The only problem is that we need to change the way we kick it into the forward 50. The opposition +1 is going to mop up half our entries like Harry Taylor did if we just bomb it in.
Probably need to park Sandiland forward permamently to force the ball to ground.

But last night Sandi was getting r*ped in marking contests, and this was deemed all well and good. So we will just need more precision with bringing it into F50.

Yeah sure I'm not saying it's a great idea, I've been a big supporter of playing more talls.

Also remember that in 1997 the average AFL player was much shorter. Plenty of KPPs under 190cm like Modra etc. Not many 200cm forwards. Just mentioned the crows because those 1997 and 1998 premiership teams were notable for their lack of any key forwards whatsoever, they relied on their mids and smalls for all of their goals.

No prob, seems we are in agreement on our kpf issue. A Shane Ellen and/or Darren Jarman performance would have been handy for us in the 2013 GF :)

Yeah. Not really hoping he'll take marks and all, given that holding on to his arm is fair game :(

At least kicks towards him are brought to ground, so our small forward fleet can go to work.

That, or we have to be more selective in our forward 50 entry. We do bomb it in a lot high even though Pav is not a tall marking kind of forward. We will be so much better with a Riewoldt kind of forward. Then again, I wish that money grow on trees too, so....

Every team bombs it in long a lot. Sometimes it's all you can do. That's why tall forwards are important.

Guys I think you a getting a little ahead of your selves .
We play Hawthorn this week at home . Its a Bloody Big Ground and we may be without Fyfe ,Ballantyne and Mcpharlin .
Walters has played 70 minutes of WAFL football so you could not expect him to play a whole game .Silvagni must come into the team for Luke .
I like everyone else I was blown away by Crozier and Duffys impact on the game but we face a team that is the most skilled in the competition .
We will have to wait and see what happens in the tribunal both from our players point of view as well as Hawthorns .
Roughhead maybe rubbed out and Hodge may be rested .
Hawthorn have some good players waiting in the wings and they have pace to burn so this will not be an easy game by any stretch if the imagination .
We must get support for Pavlich and so far we have come up empty .
If Mayne starts down back and Silvagni starts next to Pav we have a chance IMHO .
No he's not a big contested marking freak but he will give great contest and he will protect Pavs back . He will demand a quality defender to stay with him so Hawthorn won't have 3 players to scrag ,block and jump over Pavlich .
Sheridan could be in line for a call up or possibly Morabito but RTB will not play underdone players if he can avoid it .
Steven Hills ankle may have to be looked at as well . It certainly slowed him down and prevented him from getting to a lot of contests against Geelong .

Thing is Crozier and Fyfe playing forward are both strong marks as well, so you likely wouldn't be losing to much from having Mayne down there.
Rekon Crozier is a better mark than Mayne actually (In the forward half) so kind of where not losing Marking players ...

Main issue that Crozier has re: marking is that he needs to keep his feet. Guys like Sonny (in particular) and Breust almost never lose their feet, Mayne very rarely does, Balla does but bounces straight back up. If Croz could keep his feet a bit longer when marking on the lead or in the contest, he'll become even more dangerous. The most dangerous forwards are the ones that keep their feet while their opponents are face-planting. With that boot of his, and his pace... if you give him a step he'll have it through the goals from anywhere inside of 50 odd metres.

Croz is more of a lead and mark at this level. He will struggle to take a contested mark at this level, as he'll be bodied away from the drop zone. Despite the fact that Mayne doesn't take a lot of contested marks (he does take a few still), he usually manages to spill it to ground rather than letting his opponent mark it.

Mayne is a very composed decision maker on the slingshot generally. Very rarely burns the ball. Always provides pressure on the rebound. We'll definitely lose a bit if we don't have him there. But we may gain other things.
