Hey I was just wondering what the most disposals by a player one game of TAC Cup, SANFL 19's and 17's, WAFL Colts, School Footy etc...

I heard that James Allan got 54 once which is pretty impressive.

Crawford holds the record at Assumption, with around 60 odd and a bag of 5 or 6 in the same game, not bad considering the players to have gone through that school.

Colin Sylvia had around 45 but kicked 9 goals in a Herald Sun shield game...

50: Rick Ladson, TAC Cup
49: Daniel Glover, TAC Cup
48: Daniel Elstone, TAC Cup
47: Josh Jennings, TAC Cup

Trent Cotchin had either 48 or 58 playing for PEGS against Assumption in the ags. Impressive considering the quality of the opposition and the fact that he was probably being heavily tagged.

Roger James picked up 53 possies in a game I was playin in with him for Norwood U19's, 1994

A young fella by the name of Dale Armstrong from North Adelaide apparently had 62 and 59 possessions in successive games in the U/17s. This was earlier in the season. Dale then went up to the reserves and got in the best the following week so I'd suggest that he's one to look out for in the future!

Jamie Macnamara had 50 touches playing for east freo colts last year round 1 playing on leroy jetta (essendon)
atm he is an eagles rookie listed player and should get promoted to teh senior list next year

Generally people who get a LOT of the ball aren't much good.

A good midfielder will win the footy, have the pace / tricks to get into space, will run 10 and kick 50. He will hit a target. The ball will be 60m away from him on someone else's chest.

A bad midfielder will scoop it up, handball to someone and miss, scoop it up again, handball backwards to someone stading still. Ball-up. He will win it again, dribble it 20m along the ground, chase after it. Ball-up. Kick a 30m pass that misses the forward by 5m - defender picks it up and kicks it straight back to him.

Most of the guys who get huge possesion totals - don't have enough footy awareness to look at long options - don't have the ability to kick 50 - can't hit targets consistently - handball too much - lack pace or the ability to get themselves into space.

A very high possesion tally is normally the sign of someone undraftable - not the reverse.

This would have been the reason Nathan Foley was a Rookie.

After his 42 Possesion game for Coburg all I heard was that he would do a 5 metre grubber kick, go pick it up and do the same again.

But now look at him.

Meh! That's the problem with making generalisations.

Judd kicked 12 from the midfield one game playing for CGS. Not sure how many possies though

quality of the opposition lol.

It's still a significantly lower level of competition than TAC Cup though.

Any underage football watcher or scout who knows their stuff will tell you that.

Agreed that TAC cup is a higher standard, but aps/ags/acc school comps would be the next best standard of junior footy in Victoria. Most schools have 5-6 guys on tac lists, with the better schools having 10+. The big games, Xavier vs Caulfield, PEGS vs Marcellin, all have scouts attending and each league produces about 5 afl players each year. I wouldn't say it was significantly lower.

Of course it's significant - You're saying that the better schools might have 10-12 TAC Cup players... That's half as many TAC Cup players as every team in the TAC Cup

Essentially, you could reason that most TAC Cup teams are probably going to be twice as good as a school footy team, particularly when you factor in that the TAC Cup sides generally feature superior coaching as well, which makes the competition stiffer for the kids.

I'd agree that the TAC is stronger, but picking up 50 odd possies in a school game is still an achievement. Also, I'd back PEGS 1sts or Haileybury's 1sts from last year to come close to a weak TAC team like Sandy. What about EKC who have about 22 tac players from Western and Calder attending their school. I'm not trying to say that school footy is stronger, i'm a big fan of the TAC cup, but I do think that Cotchins performance was worth noting.

Juddy is talented but not talented enough to kick 3 without having a possesion :P
does soccering off the ground count as a possession?
ive never thought of this before but if it doesnt then its possible to go through a game and kick a goal and yet not have a possession??

I remember Carrazzo had nearly 50 for the Bullants against the Devils last year.

He had 51.

Yes it does count as a possession.

Did you forget that they've had about 140 guys play vfl/afl?

So what? Tell me which stars are in the last few Assumption teams? Angus Graham lol, just because they have had the Crawfords and Billy Brownless' doesn't mean anything.

Liam Barker of Whitefriars College gathered an amazing 69 possessions while playin for his junior club the Moe Meteors in the majestic tackers age group a few years ago.

Also having 6-10 TAC Cup players doesn't mean that they are necessarily good. Those kids have a head-start in getting onto a TAC list. And you scratch a few coaches in the TAC Cup and you will find they aren't necessarily that keen on playing some of these private school kids.
