I'll tell u what, the way Mark Blake's kicking for goal has been going his is a real candidate. His played 26 games without a goal so his slowly but surely getting there.

It had the answer to this on 'AFL Premiership 2007' in the loading screen before you play a match. I can't remember what the guy's name was except I'm pretty sure it was between 160-180 games and was a fair while ago.

I think Rod Carter played about 198 games before he kicked his first goal, he missed a sitter of a shot the week before too.

I'm pretty sure he only kicked 2 for his career.

Your right. He got his first goal in his 215th game. Round 15, 1986 at Princes Park against Hawthorn. It took me a bit of searching to work it out.

Good work CAS79.:thumbsu:

The names Gary Malarkey and Ted Potter are ringing a bell for some reason.

Correct, Potter played 182 games with no goals, and Malarkey played 172. Three men played more than 200 games and only kicked 1 goal, Rod Carter (293 games), Charlie Dibbs (223 games) & Wally Donald (205 games).

A strange quirk is that Bob Henderson (Fitzroy 1953 - 1962) scored a goal in his debut and them played another 136 games without scoring a major!!

Source is the 2006 AFL guide to the season, page 587.

Not the longest but Shane Wakelin just got a goal a few weeks ago...after I believe around 125+ games ???

Without checkin his stats, i'm gonna guess he kicked goals within the first 10 games of his AFL career - he actually started at the Saints as a foward... i'll check when he kicked his first goal...

Kicked a goal in his SECOND game in 1994...

Yes and Sam Collins is closing in on the record as he currently sits in 7th place on the all-time list:
  1. 182 - Ted Potter (Collingwood 1963-72)
  2. 172 - Gary Malarkey (Geelong 1977-86)
  3. 166 - Les Gardiner (Essendon 1943-53)
  4. 162 - Jamie Shanahan (St Kilda & Melbourne 1992-99)
  5. 154 - Ian Synman (St Kilda 1958-69)
  6. 151 - Jim Gallagher (Bulldogs 1951-60)
  7. 149 - Sam Collins (Gold Coast & Fremantle 2016-)
  8. 148 - Bill Perkins (Richmond 1940-49)
  9. 136 - Harold Matthews (St Kilda 1925-32)
  10. 135 - Ray McConnell (Essendon 1949-56)
Assuming Collins doesn't get injured or (god forbid) kick a goal, you'd think there's a pretty good chance he'll move into 2nd place on the ladder around August-September this year and put himself in the box seat to break the all-time record in early 2027. The only other active player that hasn't kicked a goal worth mentioning is GWS's Conor Idun (117) but he's still fair distance away from the record.

Does anyone think Collins won't end up breaking the record? I'm pretty convinced he will. He never really puts himself in a position to kick a goal and will often pass it off when he's within range. Plus, I think Dimma is the type of coach that would want to see one of his guys break a quirky record like this one. It perfectly personifies the type of player Collins is - team first.

Round 1 GC v West Coast.... If the Suns are up by 20 goals in the 4th quarter I reckon he might jog on down to the goalsquare to have a shot!

I reckon they're at the point now where they actually don't want him to kick a goal because it eliminates any possibility of him making history (as quirky as the record may be). Don't get me wrong, if he gets a 50m penalty after the siren and needs to kick the goal to send the team through to a GF then of course he's going to kick it, but right now I think both club and player are happy to keep this going.

I wonder what the odd would be for him to kick a goal against West Coast
Might be worth having a lazy $20 on that
I wouldn't bother. Skip to 2:10 in this video and you can see it's something they are well aware of within the four walls and clearly Collins is keen to remain goalless in hopes of breaking the record next year.
