It is not so much his current level of output, sure, he has been handy. But when I am talking about improvement, I am talking about where he was last year - and where he is this year. At least, that is my definition of improvement. Now last year Jayden Hunt was playing VFL. He was showing flashes of brilliance, but really nothing more. This year he is playing AFL, he is not only holding his own, but often making his opponents look ordinary. That isn't overrating the kid, it is a pure observation, and if you had watched any of his games, you would find it to be an accurate one.

I've seen him play a number of times. Again, he's had some good games, but he's not routinely making his opponents look "ordinary" or "like witches hats" as you put it.

The thread is about improvement in exposed form at AFL level. Every club could name a youngster who has made the transition from the reserve grade to the seniors. That's the standard development cycle for a lot of players, nothing really special or unique about it.

Scully, greene ( if you base it on last year and exclude his first year), rampe, gawn, gunston

I dont get Scully as improved, he is a very good footballer. Had to play primarily a defensive outside mid role for us, and wait for the guys around him to develop. Now they have he can be more expansive and gets noticed more, IMO. Greene maybe but I cant mention one of one of our guys without mentioning half a dozen. Partly why I went for Daniels, also because he is a truly gifted player and a pleasure to watch.

Greene's season this year is way ahead of his first season. He got a lot of the footy that year, but had stuff all hurt factor, and was a bit of a clanger merchant too.

Taberner goal of the year nomination for round 17. On face value seems like your basic running back into an open goal scenario. On closer inspection the punters will understand the gravity of what he pulled off. Got his man with the old double back lead up the wing play he's becoming reknown for. His 198cm frame just 'gut runs' in the opening minute of the game and he blows his opponent up with his endurance. Sure his opponent closes, but Taberner zigs and zags and instead of running at the goals to dribble one through from 5m out directly in front opts to throw his opponent off by jagging towards the boundary. This brings his left foot into play, like a true veteran.

This couples with his mark of the year nomination in round 11. In a 3 horse race did pretty well in compiling 22% of the votes.

Not many on this thread can claim that their 'Most Improved' even comes close to this remarkable double double by Taberner.

I'd even go so far as to say his interview with Barry Hall after one of his many BOG performances showed how far he has come. The last time he was interviewed so heavily was when Ross asked him why he felt he deserved to remain on the list. His answer at that time and like how this thread should end was simple, but effective.

'Because I'm Matt Taberner'

But has he surpassed Kepler Bradley in the pantheon of Docker greats?

The very fact you have mentioned Keplar in conversation about Taberner truly magnifies his significance.

We need to realise Keplar was and still remains a God. Maybe Pavlich can compare. At a pinch Fyfe, Farmer and McManus.

Taberner is a long way off and you can't chase down God status, but he's no doubt becoming one of his disciples.

I think the "witches hats" is a fair call, but mainly because the kid is greased ****ing lightning.

I told you to stop drinking the aftershave...

Sam Docherty

This. Came in here to post his name.

I've liked some of Ben Brown's games too, although it's been a more gradual development curve with him.

For us, it's Jeremy Howe. His week to week performances have been way better than anything he's ever been able to produce over any period of time. Has been genuinely top draw. Kicking is elite.

Dangerfield? ...

That first season was pretty bloody good though, but yeah this season he is hurting you on scoreboard and hitting targets I50

Watts, Viney and Gawn for me they're the major reasons Melbourne have gone from non-event to sneaky finals chance.

Special mentions to Rampe and Howe. I've been a big fan of Rampe from afar, but he's gone next level this year. I seriously didn't expect Howe to give Collingwood what he has this year and even though he's had his flaky moments overall his increase in output has been a pleasant surprise.

Get Jeremy Howe, saw him for the first time at Spotless last week, impressive game.

Let's let Dangerfield fly under the radar a bit longer, publicity might affect his game

Jeremy Howe the only one in the conversation from Collingwood.
I'd argue Grundy is in the conversation too. His improvement over the past month has been stunning. Howe has found a level of consistency in his game I never thought he'd achieve.

Wow this post makes Taberner sound like Coleman.

Goal was pretty good I guess.
