No he wasn't. The best player in the league was our 2015 Club Champion. Laird did come second though.

He has improved even more on his season last year though. Nearly went at 100% efficiency yesterday and is continually up there with the highest efficiency ratings in the afl each round.

Yeah sorry, probably should've checked that rather than going on memory. And he was excellent yesterday, agreed. Shame the toe injury interrupted his season.

dennis armfield hasn't improved all that much, just a case of a player being thought of better because their team is slightly better.
'you know you're going shit when dennis is kicking a goal against you' has been a pretty common phrase on the board but he's kicked at least a goal in half of his games since 2012, being played as a defensive half-forward. kicked 4 goals last year against WB.

2016 - 8 games, 11 goals, 15.5 disposals + 2.1 tackles p/game
2015 - 12 games, 13 goals, 12 disposals + 3 tackles
2013 - 24 games, 17 goals, 14.2 disposals + 1.9 tackles
2012 - 21 games, 16 goals, 14.2 disposals + 2.8 tackles

Jeremy Howe the only one in the conversation from Collingwood.

He's not really any better just a tad more consistent and clearly more motivated. He played some amazing games at Melbourne down back particularly in mid to late 2014 and probably was best on in rd 1 2015 without any lead up form, but had checked out pretty early last year when it was obvious Roos had no intention of playing him forward and he wanted to go elsewhere. Makes me very frustrated mainly with Roos but also with Howe that he couldn't accept he's a far better player as an intercept marking/rebounding defender.

Then perhaps we need a new criteria, because Jayden Hunt has gone from a developing VFL player - to a promising AFL player who is making his opponents look like witches hats. From last year to this year Jayden Hunt is the most improved player in the AFL, and he is by some margin.

More marks, inside 50s, rebound 50s, score involvements, tackles, clearances, contested possessions etc etc.

He's getting more of it, using it better and has taken his game to a whole new level. Could almost snag a spot in the AA 40 on his form this year running off the half back flank.

Yeah nah. He's got a lot going for him and could become a vital part of the side in the future. His line breaking ability is something we've been desperately lacking for a while. But he's still very much a rough diamond. Even just from our side, Gawn is a more worthy candidate.

Hunt has been doing this at VFL level for a while, spanning back to last year. They just waited a while to release him in the AFL.

Keep this up and people will be naming him in the 'Most Overrated' thread.

He's been handy, and has had a few good games, but he's really just an normal, developing young player at this point. Still turns the ball over way too much, but he's learning.

It is not so much his current level of output, sure, he has been handy. But when I am talking about improvement, I am talking about where he was last year - and where he is this year. At least, that is my definition of improvement. Now last year Jayden Hunt was playing VFL. He was showing flashes of brilliance, but really nothing more. This year he is playing AFL, he is not only holding his own, but often making his opponents look ordinary. That isn't overrating the kid, it is a pure observation, and if you had watched any of his games, you would find it to be an accurate one.
