Further to the great post by Richmondfan#1, who would you consider to be the most overrated player of all time.

For me it would be a tie between Brad Hardie, the worst Brownlow winner of all time, and Kym Hodgeman, who arrived at North many years ago with the reputation he was going to be the next great thing. It never quite happened. Now its Kym who???

Wayne Carey for me is one of the most overrated players (also one of the best, but still highly overrated, especially by commentators).

Greg Williams would go close. Andrew Jarman, Wes Fellows, John Coleman (hehehe... throw the cat amongst the pigeons), I agree on Hardie.

But the winner is...

Steven Silvagni for mine by a mile. He's made a career out of scragging, holding and generally cheating.
If the game was umpired the way it should (or even the same for him as everyone else), he would give away 30+ free kicks a game.
The ball doesn't come to him in a 2 on 1 contest without him grabbing his opponent.

Full Back of the century... My Arse!!!

A telling comment from Dermie to Carey

At your age my career was just about over, so how will you manage yourself from here ?

North need to ease the load on carey.

But surely overrating is the fault of the media not the player. The player can only do their best (which Carey does)

On example is where 'specialll' Bruce maenioned carey during the Essendon - Bulldogs game - Is it neccessary ?

silvagni is the most overrated ever, wasnt it funny that he won a free kick against essendon for holding the man infront of goal, the prick has been doing the same thing for his whole career without being penalised

as for coleman how can you comment if you never saw him - crowds changing ends each quarter just to see him says that the bloke could play

brad hardie would have to be the worst player to win a brownlow wouldnt he???

Overated Silvangi? Cmon, the guy who cant give a free kick away because he plays the ball and not the man ALWAYS. :p

Of players ive seen that come to mind I guess Kernahan sticks (pun, poor I know) out. Wasnt a chb after his first two seasons, couldnt kick or play if the ball was below his knees and never went close to the 'ton' when he played mostly as a FF. For comparison I always bring in Quinlan and ask neutral supporters who they would rather have. Mostly they go with Bernie, yet I bet no one in the so-called 'media experts' would.

ps Walshy re Coleman, dont let them suck you in, the guy must have been a freak. Also the forgotten great Bob Pratt (who a lot of my old mans mates say was better than Coleman,im not saying it they did okay) never seems to get the mentions that he I think deserves.

Pessimistic: I agree Carey being overrated is media/supporter's fault... I never said any different.
I just think he's overrated by them (still an out and out champion).

Walshy: Let me explain what I mean by Coleman.

I have no doubt he was a brilliant player to watch, and a great spectacle of his time, sadly cut down by injury.

The reason I think he is overrated is the continual claims that he is the best full forward ever etc. when he really never proved that as did other full forwards such as Lockett, Coventry etc.

Overrated merely because they rate him too highly against the 2 longer-lasting full forwards with the records/stats to back them up.

I know it wasn't his fault that he was cut down by injury etc.
Perhaps I may seem harsh, but I again think this is a reflection on media etc. exaggerating the 'legend' rather than anything to do with him.

I'm glad to see others agree with me on Silvagni
