This will be a little harder.

Brisbane: Probably Alistair Lynch. He kicked 66 goals, but I don't think he took that many contested marks, and he dropped a few sitters, as well as missing some gimmes. Still good on the lead though.

This title would have been taken by Jarrod Molloy, but he was only overrated by Sandy Roberts. Has anybody other than Sandy ever called him the D9?

Most overrated player in the league for me is Matthew Lloyd. Every week, the ball is delivered to him by the Essendon midfielders with pinpoint accuracy. He barely has to be a metre away from his opponent for the rest of the team to get it to him.

Hey Tom FC, how dare you big poor ol Matty Lloyd. NOw the Essendon Mafia will be bagging you for weeks. Trust me, as soon as you suggest that Lloyd isn't half the player the media make him out to be, the wolfs go in for the kill.
I also think James Hird is grossly overrated

While these guys can all play the game, the topic is who do you think is over rated..... anyway, thats my 2 bobs worth!

Tom FC, Matty Lloyd? Oh sure, overrated. Yeah, the Pope is a protestant! Lloyd kicks 109 goals in a season, has the most kicks in the club, comes 2nd in Essendon's Brownlow placers and came about (I'm not sure) 5th in our Best and Fairest. Ooh yes, very overrated. As for saying he only gets kicks thanks to the midfielders accuracy, that's their job, dickhead. To get it to the full forward. Duh!
And Geelong4eva, it's not the media that make him big, it's his talent. Don't be so naive.
If you want overrated thanks to the media, take a look at Nathan Buckley! Ugh, and Collingwood. But more to the point, the MOST overrated player is Wayne Carey, by FAR.

I agree with you about Wayne Carey, while he's a very good player, I don't think he's as good as everyone seems to say he is. What I find ridiculous is how everyone calls him a big game player. I mean, when was the last time he dominated a prelim. or grand final?? He's done okay in some qualifying finals against weak opposition but I can't recall Carey playing all that well in a big game like Hird or McLeod.

These are the games when the REALLY great players make a name for themselves and I don't think he has done that.

Buckley is overrated?!?!?
He has only came 2nd and 3rd for the brownlow about 4 years running and a consistent player. He has had the highest number of kicks in the league this season. And has won the Collingwood best and fairest 3 years in a row. Buckley is overrated?!?! yeah the pope is protestant!

All you essendon supporters are for the most part ignorant and stupid clowns. Nathan Buckley overrated ? he's got more heart and guts then James Hurt will ever have inside his miniscular frame. And wayne carey - puh-leazze. he's easily the greatest CHF if not the greatest player of all time. Lloyd has kicked more than 10 goals in a game only once, and ablett did it on 14 or 15 different occassions. Come back to me when Lloyd has kicked 100 goals in 17 games like Ablett or Dunstall or Lockett used to do all the time.

You would be struggling to find a Richmond supporter that disagreed with you on Daffy. At Roar Power, there was much joy when he was 'sacked' and even more disappointment when we couldn't off load him.

I actually think that Ben Holland is one of the more underrated Richmond players. He plays in a manner not dissimilar to that of Earl Spalding at Carlton. A big lug who is there to crash packs in the forward line.

You both wish Carey was over-rated - but is not!

Lloyd is a very over-rated player, as was stated in another post. The ball is delivered to him with very little need for him to do any of the hard work.

Hird is a very, very good player and he had a great year in 2000. Any good footballer who has two years away from the game should have a good year on his return.

Just a couple of queries? How may AFL MVP (as voted for by the players' peers) has Hird won and how many times has he captained an All-Australian side not including this year as Hird was made captain after CAREY and Buckley were unable go to Ireland.

Oh excuse me folks arent' we forgetting a certain Cindy Crawford ? For heaven's sake, the fact that Nathan Buckley didn't win the 99 Brownlow (he was by far the best home and away player no questions asked in 99) was bad enough, but Crawf really doesn't deserve all the media hype he gets, mainly from the footy show. Why all this Buckley bashing ? I suspect Michelle you are getting you hatred of Collingwood clouding your view on what sort of player Nathan Buckley is. In my opinion, he is just under Anthony Koutofidies as the best player in the AFL at the moment. What more does Buckley need to do to prove that he is by the far the 2nd most dominating player in the AFL in the 90's behind Wayne Carey. I would rather have 'Bucks' than That Twit Hird at Shell Stadium anyday. If this keeps up, i've have to start a Nathan Buckley appreciation society. Cindy destroyed everyone in the 2nd half of 99, including a game where he pretty much won it of his own boot, hmm think it was against, now lets see, it was late in the year, oh thats right GEELONG!

Had a poor year in comparison but still managed to come good in a final, hmm who against, took an absoloute hanger, oh thats right, GEELONG AGAIN.

I would actually say until this year Lloyd was overrated if you took his rating & compared it to his achievments.
Before the Essendon supporters get outraged I will explain. Prior to this season Matthew Lloyd's achievments were that of a very, very good young player with the potential to be great. If you took the media opinion they had projected the potential as already having been realised. He was rated with Carey & way above Hird- without the consistent form required to get there.
Buckley is not overrated his achievments in a poor team have been great.
The most overrated must be Mckernan hasn't played decently consistently since 1996 & is still raved about. Also does some of the dumbest things you can imagine on a footy field.

What evidence do you have to say that he is overrated? You need supporting evidence.
I will do my case once again why is not overrated and one of the best footballers in the league. He has came 2nd and 3rd for the Brownlow 4 years in a row in a under-achieving team. He has been a All-Australian Captain, hes had had the most number of kicks in the league for season 2000 and was 2nd in 1999. And has remained consistent for many seasons.

Word up Michelle and Bombergirl...You airheads.

When I started this topic, I said it would be hard, and some people have got annoyed at me (Hello Bomber Gal!) for mentioning that I consider Lloyd the most overrated player in the league, but the reason I said that is because I believe he is overrated by just about everyone.
If you look at, say, Jeff Farmer, Jarrod Molloy, or even Nathan Buckley, there are a lot of people who don't rate them, even though some worship the ground they walk on.

However, with Lloyd there seems to be a general consensus that he is, by a country mile, the best full-forward in the league, and on a par with players like Koutoufides, Voss, Buckley, Carey, Woewoedin.
I'm not so sure.
Whenever I see him kick goals, it is generally because of the superb skills of Mercuri, Johnson, Misiti, Hird or the rest of the magnificent team that is Essendon. He does have the ability to rove and kick goals, but then so do most players.

I believe that there are a number of player in the AFL who, if put in the same position as Lloyd, would be able to kick a hundred goals.

Matthew Lloyd is not overrated. He is a star player. He has a good football brain, leads hard and strong to ensure the best chance of getting the ball and he is an unselfish player.

If your talking about overrated players, why don't you talk about Wayne Carey. Sure he used to be great, but he's getting old and everyone still thinks he's the best. Seriously, Wayne Carey should retire. His days are over. Too many injuries and too old.

If, as often stated, 'No Carey, No North', and I do believe that on some occasions his absence has been the deciding factor in their losses, How could he be over rated?

If ONE player has that much influence on a game, they are not being over rated. It is just fact.

We can't have it both ways you know. How many ppl have said No Carey No North? Just goes to show what an influence he has.

Now that I have said that I am going to retire to the lav and spew my guts up, can't believe I just stuck up for him!
