All the Carlton fans I know point straight to Fraser Brown. And I've always thought Aussie Jones was an overrated pile of crap.
Hawthorn HAD plenty a few years ago. If Crawfs has another ordinary season he might be the man. But only because he's rated so very highly. The Bulldogs now have Eagleton, don't forget. He's done nothing to live up to his promise. Aside from that I can't go past Asgardian's picks and Grendel's deconstuction of them.

Cheers

That sounds like my Bee's cue to re-enter the discussion brandishing a shotgun and an angry scowl on her (still lovely) face.

Actually, Bee, one of them is. Another would just about sell his mother's organs for the club. I've only ever heard two tirades from him. One was shortly after the prelim in 99. He wanted the whole world to know about Carlton's public humiliation of Essendon (Quote: "We bent them over the Southern Stand and we PUBLICLY SODOMISED THEM!") The other is his often heard rant against Brown. He calls Brown a receiver, a softcock, he made the prediction - I think last year when Brown got injured - that Carlton would win their next few games until Brown came back. And he was right.

I'm no Carlton expert. But I'm not going to argue with a fanatic like him. And I'm not going to argue with a fanatic like you either. Have your opinion. I respect it. But this guy was no fair weather fan.

So Carlton did not win any games when Fraser came back. How the bloody hell is that Fraser's fault? He hardly even get onto the bloody ground, so how could he have been responsible for the losses?
And to call him soft and a receiver is absolutely risible! Is this "friend" of yours sane?
Ask this friend of yours, who he thinks won the 99 prelim for Carlton. Perhaps it was a certain perfect and very hard tackle in the dying minutes. Or maybe he thought that was a soft effort from a receiver.

Hey Bee, read a little more carefully. They WON the games without Brown. The point being they're a better side without him. I make no claims for the guy's sanity. I think all Carlton fans are mad per se.

Anyway, if you love him so much, back it up then. Tell me why you think he's so good. I'm open to reason. I'd rather have Bradley, Ratten, Camporeale, Silvagni, Even Whitnall ahead of Brown, but I'm sure you've got your reasons. Let's hear them.

I don't have to explain anything to you, for my reasons for defending Fraser. If you want to know why most sane Carlton fans think he's wonderful go to the Carlton website and scroll through the tributes to him when he retired.

RogerC,

I have not included retired or delisted players in my lists.
eg. Fraser Brown and James Thiessen.

Just a word of advice, your arguing technique would be greatly improved if you demonstrated you knew what you were talking about, one way to do this is to get your facts correct.

BTW, you say I do not know Hawthorn, how much do you know about an interstate club?
We make judgements from afar, we also tend to concentrate on the games you see the opposition when they play your own team.
Under this criteria I stand by my comments, Chick is over-rated, and Graham is under-rated

Gee, that's a tough call, Frodo, Harvey is a champion. In fact he would look superb in a Carlton jumper.

A number of players come to mind:

1. Billy Ray Treadrea, the one hit wonder.

2. Corey Nuffbag McKernan.

3. Matty "No footy Brain" Richardson

4. David "I am not a leader's asshole" Neitz

5. Scott "I'd struggle to get a game elsewhere" Burns

6. Michael "Skirt, Weak as piss, avoid the contest" Long

7. Rohan "Bubble Gum" Smith

8. Shane "refer D.Neitz" Crawford.

9. Peter "Discipline & Honour" Everitt.

Nick Daffy and Darren Gaspar have always struck me as players with too much hair and reputations outstripping their performances (while the Kellaways have been the opposite).

Sean Wellman at McEsadun is underrated.

Behind the post
Yet another anti Essendon person joins BF.
Mark Mercuri overated that is the direct opposite to the truth, apart from Bomber fans he is extremely underated.

Pardon me for butting in on your reply to Roger C, but were you at "Foobball" Park last year when Chick was best on the ground against the *ahem* Power? Did you catch the Round 20 game when Chick was again amongst Hawthorn's best? Or the 1999 clash when Chick was Hawthorn's best forward in a Port victory?

As,

I'd dispute Chris Johnson as over rated. Last season he re-invented himself as a creative , disciplined full backline player in the mold of Akermanis. Maybe a few seasons ago.

If you want an over rated Lion, go for Trent Knobel

He's big, he's tall
But can he mark the ball ?

Matthew bloody Capuano. He is honestly not that great. Whenever he was injured for North the media and commentators would forever be making comments like "North are really missing him" "they really need him" when for all it was worth they did just fine without him. I haven't ever seen him make much of an impact on a game, but I have to admit, I dont study him that closely coz he's not at my club.

Joel Smith and Nick Holland spring to mind whenever over rated players are mentioned. Joel Smith for demanding top money when he crossed from StKilda and is the biggest lemon around and simply wants the money only. Nick Holland who's ambition is gretaer than his ability Oh and Of course...Luke McCabe ..enough said about this loser the ultimate "clanger" merchant.

I'm surprised everyone has picked Anthony Rocca for Collingwood! Entering the 2001 season he is 23 years old. That is to say he hasn't even entered the peak of his career as a footy player, so how can a kid with potential be overrated? Incidentally, he is as fit as he possibly can be and will cause heaps of trouble for opposition teams across half forward this year!

The most overrated player is more often than not the Brownlow medalist! Woewodin has been name the best and fairest in all the land. But he ain't (and never will be)in Buckley, Carey or Koutafides league! That said it doesn't make him anything less than a star. Just not a super-star!

To be overated wouldnt you first have to be rated? Half the blokes being mentioned here are just goers at best, who rated them in the first place?

Josh Wooden Chris Johnson Michael Mansfield
Che Cockatoo-Collins Jason Ball Fraser Brown (Sorry Rog, but he doesnt play anymore, cant rate him now
) Scott Burns Trent Knobel
Matt Capuano Luke McCabe. Now is that a list that ANYONE thinks about as overated? Most of the names there would struggle to be recognized by anyone outside of there own clubs.

ps Orion, Hollands overated like Chick is.

pps Asgardian, waiting to here your response to Danny Chooks question (i was going to ask the same thing, Chicks been best on ground or near it the last THREE times weve played Port, what games do you watch?)
