People will think I'm trolling or just salty, but I use to say it when he played for us that he was overrated..

Dangerfield.

If you can't hit a target consistently you are not elite. Takes big gambles that often don't come off in terms of attacking centre clearances and hurting the team structure. Both were noticeable when he played for us, and haven't changed at Geelong.

But he is a better player for Geelong than he was for us, no arguments there, he just has the same deficiencies.
Fyfe is the exact same, no good winning the ball when you turn it straight back over.

Alex Rance - no way this diver should be regarded as one of the great defenders. Most games plays off his opponent and is very vulnerable 1 out in defence.
Daylight
Scott Pendlebury - never wins a hardball and is only hyped up cause he dances around like a ballerina.
Cyril Rioli - enough said. I blame Bruce.

Pendlebury’s contested ball numbers have been absolutely elite for years, and why should he have to win contested ball to be considered one of the best when he can find space as easy as he does? Pendlebury is a lot of things - overrated is not one of them.

............yet. Plenty of time for a 22 year old to put it all together. easier to do so in a good side, if indeed Melbourne go on with things.

For me: Koutafides. Sure he had some brilliant moments, games and extended periods, but I feel we largely remember him being better than he was over the course of his career.
I mean as an 18yo.
Tracc looked like he would hit the afl and tear it apart as a junior.
The knee injury proved a bit of a hurdle for that

Bill Browness was an overated hack
Interesting. Both Brownless and Jack Riewoldt goal average is almost identical. Brownless wasn't even the main spearhead in a team that included Gary Ablett snr and Barry Stoneham. The 1991 semi final against St.Kilda was a classic where Brownless kicked 8 and Lockett 9, not bad for an over rated hack? 1991 and 1992 were his best seasons kicking 81 and 79 goals respectively, again not bad for an over rated hack? This was an era when real full backs were playing and you had to lead and mark and kick from outside 50 accurately...he even won a final after the siren from outside 50..not bad for an over rated hack!
This one from about 70metres out....

Different era to Riewoldt completely.Brownless had the 3rd defender and played on the outside and got lots of joe the goose goals. That goal that won the final was inconsequential as the finals system meant they would have progressed anyway.

And for a big bodied bloke , he didnt put his body on the line like Ablett and Stoneham.

A tougher, harder era, playing against better back line players. The goal after the siren was inconsequential enough to have Geelong miss West Coast in Perth in a preliminary enabling them to make the Grand Final instead. 2nd is still better than 3rd. Not sure why the hate for Brownless as a player? He was very good.

It's not for his idiotic tv persona, it's about him not crashing packs and using his bulk.He sort of played forward pocket and never really took the game by the scruff neck.

If you're going to use a reason for thinking someone is over-rated, at least make it factual.

Pendleburys contested ball numbers are genuinely elite, and have been for years.

Idiot.

Is that why teams used to kick 20 goals a game?

He also performed better in the '95 GF than the legendary Ablett.

Has anyone ever rated him?
Walker and Sloane by far the most overrated Crows.
Rance and Rioli own the overrated threads by a fair margin.

Someone at the Crows has rated him for 10+ years, hence he is only a couple of games away from 200.

By that, it makes him the most overrated player in the league.

I guess when you put it like that, but I’ve never heard anyone in the general public ever rate him, Crows supporters included.

Give me a break, Brownless was a one-dimensional spud who had the 3rd defender and was a fairly outside player. The goals he kicked were from one on ones with smaller oppenents. Riewoldt kicks his goals by taking pack marks and he also sets them up for others.Plus he has great skill when the ball is on the ground
