Most significant matches not involving Brisbane

Here's something that has crossed my mind. As we all know the Collingwood v Essendon game tonight is pretty important for Brisbane, and it made me think back to other games that Brisbane have depended on a fair bit which has eventually determined the outcome of their season. I thought of 3 -

1995, Round 22, Sydney v Collingwood - Sydney had to beat Collingwood for Brisbane to make the finals for the first time. Sydney I think from memory were 4 goals behind at half time or thereabouts, but stormed home in the second half to win by a similar margin. Cheers Swannies I'll never forget the live cross to Richard Champion at the end of the game in a Brisbane pub where all the Bears players had gathered to watch the game.

1997, Round 22, Port Adelaide v St Kilda - Brisbane only managed a draw from their last 5 games, but still held onto 8th spot I think only on percentage from Port when the last match of the regular season kicked off on Sunday night at Footy Park. From what I remember of the game it was pretty close all night, but in the end St Kilda drew away in the last quarter, clinching the minor premiership, and consigning Port to 9th However the booby prize for the Lions was a trip to Waverley the next week for a final against the high flying Saints

2002, 1st Qualifying Final, Port Adelaide v Collingwood - Onya Pies! Collingwood's win guaranteed the winner of the 2nd Qualifying Final the next night between Brisbane and Adelaide a home Preliminary Final.

2003, Round 22, Collingwood v Essendon - Time will tell, but here's hoping the tables are turned on Collingwood tonight, as Sydney did so famously in 1995 to knock them out of the eight. GO BOMBERS!!!
