I know this guy is highly rated but I think he deserves to be included in the superstars of the game category.

Carlton's Andrew McKay.

As a Blues fan, he would be my first chosen every time. He's a leader, has consistency and brilliance. I can not recall him having his colours lowered in a long time. Even if his opponent plays well, it's because he's trying to cover more than one player. He's a complete package.

Brisbane- Darryl White

Everyone thinks of him as a high marker and nothing else, but in 2000 he was disciplined, intelligent and skillful, particularly when spoiling.

I would suggest Greg Tivendale. He will only ever be a flanking type, but he would probably be Richmond's quickest player, has clean hands and is easily our best kick on the run (better than Bowden, Chaffey and Knights). If you see him on the run anywhere within 60m from goal, expect him to kick it.

If this thread was run 2 months earlier I would have said Andy Kellaway, but selection in the All-Australian side is due recognition.

Spot on, Tom!

I also wonder whether Simon Black is appreciated as much by other clubs' supporters as he is by the Lions' faithful.

Tom and Steve, I reckon S.HART (Lions) just about takes the cake as the most underrated player in the leauge (perhaps only behind J.Blakey).

D.White may currently be underrated by some, but, I think the fact that he has been overrated in the past (pre-2000 - as 2000 was when he became a 'real' quality, consistent senior player), kinda balances the equation.

S.Black's injuries late in season 2000 saw him unable to finish what began as a brilliant (and potential B&F) season. Will most likely be one of the leagues top players in a few years time (if not as soon as next season).

Besides that, I reckon most weeks in 2000 S.Hart was in our best 10. Similarly, the effort that he always puts in (especially for someone his size against bigger opponents), is phenomenal. More than fulfills his 'task' most weeks I bet. Probably one of the most deserving players not to win a B&F around at the moment (along with Ashcroft)?

I'm with you BSA, Daniel McPherson is an unsung hero in the Swans lineup and an under-rated defender. He's one of those guys with no hype or fanfare, he just goes out and does the job well.

Johnny Blakey!

Probably more so from outside the club than from people connected with North Melbourne (ie most supporters, players and coaching staff rate this guy hugely!!)

Cheers

Gonzo

St Kilda - Max Hudghton

He has only missed a handful of games through injury since making his debut in 1997. Consistently plays on taller and stronger forwards yet is rarely beaten.

To a large proportion of opposition supporters he is only known as the player who cried after our loss to the bulldogs earlier in the year but to saints supporters is a great player in his own right.

A definite candidate for a Vice or Deputy Vice Captain role in my opinion.

Luke McCabe by a street. Been our best rebounding defender for the last two seasons and is STILL being bagged by so called Hawks fans.

I will give a shot at some others from other clubs i reckon could get some more recognition, let me know what you think.

Ess, ??? their all stars

Seriously its Misiti. One of the best centereman going but is never rated like a West/Ratten and is equal to them in nearly every way.

Melb, Ingerson

Carl, almost agee on McKay but he gets fair recgonition so im going with Beaumont, good size and can play nearly anywhere.

Roos, McCartney, has become a very consistent footballer after really taking his time to make the grade. Been a bargin pick up for North.

Cats, dont have a clue, Snell seems to have picked up and become a regular though

Dogs, Croft easy. Very very good player, would be better if allowed the 3rd or 4th best forward instead of being asked to hold key position types.

Lions, Chris Johnston and i think he was nearly going to come down as part of the Brad Scott trade too! Damn it!

Tiges, L.Cameron, really gave poise to their back half, why Doggies did you let him go???

Swannies, Schauble, yes he won a B&F but who really gave him any credit for it? It was more 'how the hell did he win it?' Was fantastic early and kept up some solid form all year.

Crows, Matty Robran had probably his most consistent season and hes been around since 91.

Freo, Heath Black, would be a gun in a good side

Port Montgomery, again Doggies, why???

Coasters Phil Matera bloody little *%%^% but a good forward pocket too nowdays

Woods Betheras, got swamped by the jobs he was asked to do sometimes, but looks a league player all the same

Saints Barry Hall. Is it just me, or does anyone else reckon he could be a SENSATION if he A)grew up a bit and B)was left at CHB.

Well thats my thoughts anyways.

Richardson is another Collingwood player who is under-rated ... by a lot of people anyway.

Scottie Burns is a fantastic player ... I don't know if I'd say he was "under-rated". I think most Collingwood fans recognise what a reliable and courageous player he is. But, then, I guess you could say he's not exactly one of the AFL's high profile celebrities ... thank God.

I'd have to say Phil Read - the work he does in the backline and then running in the midfield is great. We got him for a late draft pick and he wasn't expected to play any games in his first year - he's really come on leaps and bounds since then

John Blakey a few years ago was easily the most under rated player in the league. Since then he has become rated through the recognition gained in passing the 250 and 300 game milestones and representing the Big V. He is no longer underrated.

I still do not rate Luke McCabe highly Grendel. Admittedly I am only basing this perception on a limited number of viewings when Hawthorn play Richmond, but I have twice seen him freak under pressure, once costing Hawthorn the game. He took possession at CHB with only minutes left on the clock, found himself trapped and headed for the boundary. Found it too! 1 metre around from the Richmond point post which was 60m away. The subsequent play saw Richmond kick a goal and win the game.

I do think Barry Hall could be a star CHF if he maintained focus on the football and not being Big Bad Barry!

About a year ago I would've said Dimma Hardwick, but people seem to be recognising how important a link he is in the Essendon side. I think Joey Misiti's finals campaign also showed how the midfield's fortunes depend largely on his ball getting abilities.

If anyone, I'd have to Justin Blumfield. Shitbagged by many an Essendon supporter this year, but illustrated his capabilities in a good finals series and a second best on ground next to Hirdy in the GF. The guy has wonderful athleticism and endurance for a player of his ilk, meaning he can adapt to many positions. Really think that he slips under the guard of many an opposition.

DARYL WHITE IS A GREAT PLAYER AT THE GABBA BUT INTERSTATE HE IS VERY ORDINARY. HE TRAVELS AS WELL AS GUINNESS BEER.
