From early 2000
Ingerson really made a huge difference to our backline when he came. An left a huge dent when was gone, also I nominate Troy Broadbridge, cas not many supporters from other teams would have seen the improvement he had made.

Leoncelli was always underated.
Yeah all good points.

'Fingers' was pivotal to our defence, but was never the sort of guy to attract kudos from the media or opposition...

I can't for the life of me remember if Chris Heffernan was an underrated asset or a liability. I do remember him giving stick to Alan Didak during the QB and stole his jersey but other than that it escapes me if I rated him or not:confused:

1. Whelan(terribly under rated player for us. Loved watching him play and he was crucial to our backline giving us the toughness every back pocket player should have. We really missed him when injured, which unfortunately was too often).
2. Junior(would have been number 1, but I feel during his captaincy years, the football world realised how important he was to our club)
3. Bartram(continues to be under rated for our team. Has really stepped it up the last couple of seasons, to the point where he is in the first few picked each week).
4. Brown(Another hard nut who gave it everything for the MFC. Another player cruelled by injury, but was a fantastic team man and loved by all the players and supporters).
5. Green(yep, I reckon he has been under rated by all except us supporters. He's been an incredibly consistent player since 2000. Should have been a permanent forward, but crazy Daniher decided to play him through the middle, which he adapted to brilliantly. Should also have a couple of AA's to his name, but again, under rated by people outside the MFC).

Apologies to the Biz and Matty Collins as well. Both deserve to probably be on this list of top 5 under rated players.

As far as coaches not rating players, can I mention Scott Thompson? Daniher completely stuffed this up for us. Clearly you could see this kid was going to be a good player, but Daniher just wouldn't play him.

Outsider looking in --- Colin Sylvia gets my vote.

Put him on a Carlton, Essendon, Collingwood, Hawthorn or a major interstate club (West Coast or Adelaide) and he'd be regarded as one of the most invaluable leaders in the league. Always does the job that is asked of him, never fails to leave his heart and soul on the field of battle and is one of the hardest players at the football in the league.

Sylvia does not get anywhere near the type of appreciation that he deserves.

Brown, Whelan, Ward and Wheatly - we could certainly use on of them now!

Rigoni and leoncilli were great underrated mids

Overall I will go Brown, I will never forget his debut down at optus oval. Desperation dive across incoming traffic to spoil the ball when the game was red hot! Glad he cut the long locks though.

Great thread!

yeah except this was from the decade 2000-2009/10 and sylvias best footy has been 10/11 was unrealised potential mainly in the early part of his career
