i think that glen archer is THE most underrated player going around. if you are in trouble anywhere on the ground he is the first man i would go to. he is the toughest nut going round. he is just so tough and hard at the ball (all 95 kgs of him!). this is just my opinion and i would be interested to hear what other people think. ps......i could say buckley but i wont at the risk of losing my head.

O'Loughlin at the Swans. Better than damn near every other half forward in the league, an at least the equal of Mercuri whos rated in the top dozen or so going. He would be huge if he played at a traditional footy state (ie any state except NSW) club.

Nope, Archer and O'Loughlin do not qualify for this thread, in my opinion, they are both WELL KNOWN wonderful players, who would be welcome at any other club in the land

Lets do another list by club for most under-rated

Adelaide :- Tyson Edwards
Brisbane :- Marcus Ashcroft
Carlton :- Mark Porter
Collingwood :- Simon Prestigiacomo
Essendon :- Sean Wellman
Fremantle :- Daniel Bandy
Geelong :- Brenton Sanderson
Hawthorn :- Mark Graham
Kangaroos :- Adam Simpson
Melbourne :- Anthony Ingerson
Port :- Fabian Francis
Richmond :- Joel Bowden
St Kilda :- Max Hudghton
Sydney :- Daryn Cresswell
West Coast :- Chad Morrison
West Bulldogs :- Matthew Croft

Wonder who I've upset now?

You haven't upset me, Asgardian, but I'm getting the feeling you don't know a lot about Hawthorn. You simply can't have Chick as overrated and Graham as underrated. You won't get a single Hawthorn fan to agree with you on Chick, and as for the underrated, there are much better candidates than Graham, particularly after his efforts last year. I'd rate McCabe higher. Dixon. Rawlings. And, if he doesn't get too many more big wraps, Bowyer. But not Graham.

I'd suggest Thiessen from Adelaide, Black from Brisbane, half the bloody Collingwood side (there's a bunch of no-names there), but not Prestigiacomo. Rigoni for Melbourne (Geez he's come on), possibly Adam Kingsley for Port, because when he's on he's a gun, Leon Cameron or Powell at Richmond (surely everyone's well aware of Bowden's abilities), Saddington at Sydney, possibly Braun at West Coast. But, seriously, I'm just pissing in the wind.

The only serious disagreement I have is with Graham and Prestigiacomo.

While Jon Hay is going around as the new "gunna be a superhero" fullback, Prestigiacomo has quietly come of age. Since midway through 1999 (his first full year of senior footy) he has done very good jobs on all full-forwards. He is very athletic and is a very close checking backman, who can take an extremely good grab. What lets him down is his disposal, which can be spazmotic, but he is improving in this area.

I will go out on a limb and say that by the end of this year, Presti will be recognised as a player (by the public, as the full-forwards already know he's good, just as Lloyd) and will be recognised as one of the top five fullbacks in the competition. He turned 23 just a couple of weeks ago.

Jon Hay is doing it already. One of Hawthorn's guns and already in the top 5 full backs in the comp. He was hardly ever beaten last year despite taking the best forward each week and with great athleticism for his size. Oh btw, he's only 20.

Presti may be improving but I wouldn't put him in Hay's class yet.

Hay is 21 (1.5 years younger than Presti) and the reason I am pushing for recognition for Presti is 'cause he is UNDERRATED! He gets the best forward every week and does a bang up job.

The fact that he has been in a losing team over the past two years makes him appear less competent. Once we start racking up a heap of wins his qualities will be recognised and he could push for All Australian selection this year.

I stand corrected on Hay's age but he is still imho younger and more accomplished. Presti may well be underrated but that doesn't put him in Hay's class. All Australian selection this year for Presti? You must be joking.

hmm.... i'd say someone like chris heffernan, or blake caracella... those two would be superstars if they were playing on other teams...

Hawthorn :- Mark Graham

Oh dear!

Heebs hasn't done a damn thing for near enough two years, and would struggle to be in our best 18 on recent form. I'm still in a state of shock that he's been named a vice captain.

As for Danny Chook being overrated, please! Try going the other way. No All-Australian selection, no Ireland tour, no media recognition, no double-page Herald Sun spread, nothing! The Chook was far and away Hawthorn's best player last year, yet couldn't get an All-Aus gong despite his team finishing sixth and the ninth team getting two spots on the team. A disgrace.

Even without my quite obvious bias here, I think Chick is still Hawthorn's most UNDERRATED player, based on other club supporter's and the media's viewpoint.

Danny Chook! Danny Chook!

Robbie Powell's abilities were so underrated he was delisted and picked up by St Kilda. Couldn't even trade him!

I would suggest that Leon Cameron's abilities are as well know as Joel Bowdens, thus not qualifying as underrated.

Some names I would suggest at Richmond who are underrated are Jason Torney, Greg Tivendale and Mark Chaffey.

You're not suggesting that the Chook should've been named as All-Australian Centre Half Back are you? Or as a key defender?

Both Gaspar and Kellway thouroughly deserved their places on All-Australian team!

Maybe your boy could've been selected in place of the Adelaide bloke who nobody had heard of before!

I would actually nominate Jade Rawlings as the most underrated player at Hawthorn and he's done it with a pretty ordinary first name. Hay is pretty good though as well.

O'Loughlin is underrated - some of it might relate to being in a fairly ordinary side.

Definitely would have had Chick in before A Kellaway. Dunc's brother was very good in his role, but Chick was outstanding.

But you're right about whathisname from Adelaide. Just a token SA selection like Ben Hart was the year before.

Presti underrated? What other gems can anyone come up with? sheesh!

In my view - Simon Black, Clinton King, Jade Rawlings & Andrew Kellaway are underrated.
