My definition of underrated is when a player’s output exceeds the respect that they get.

By this definition it is not even close -Murdoch has to be the most underrated.

He was bestowed the title when Motlop left. The lack of respect that Mots was given compared to his output was a joke.

I went Kolo but maybe should have asked which player is under the radar?
Because I think he is the least spoken about.

I agree with the OP.

Kolo is our most underrated player IMO.

6'4
built like the incredible hulk
Extremely quick over 10-20 meters
Great cardio ability
Almost unbeatable one on one

This guy is as good a prospect as we have.
Since he's bulked up, he's looked unstoppable.

I suspect it may be Blitz ... he has already won a B&F and plenty still do not see him in our best 22.
This was on Footy Classified tonight. Huge effort:

In our flag years we have had at least a few really good nominations for this.
Milburn
Boris
Kelly

Currently, I think Kolo. Very much the quiet achiever who seems to do his job well week after week. He is very consistent and resilient. Looking forward to his ongoing development. Our defensive 6 or 7 is superb and they function so well together week after week.
i dont think those 3 were underrated in our flag years. enright was rated about right, kelly was sometimes underrated but other times overrated and milburn a bit overrated. The most underrated were steve johnson, ottens and chapman.

most underrated by a country street in todays team is menzel. next would be hawkins and dangerfield.
Seeds is back. Hey Seeds ya mate Blitz is going well! :D

Is he though? The team is looking pretty sharp up forward at the minute. Take Hawk out, who you also mentioned, and you may have the real answer.

Is that right? two of them won a Norm Smith, and it was fairly widely recognised that without Ottens we may not have won one flag.

I just dont think they were regarded to the degree they should of been amongst both neutrals and cats fans. Johnson and chapman are true champions. Only ablett and scarlett were better players during our era. And ottens was one of the best five rucks of the past twenty five years.

This is a surprise but Jordan Murdoch gets very hard done by our fans and externally. Hard tackler, great run and carry- yes can be down (like everyone else) but it's much harsher for him. Solid player who is made out to be the Ty Vickery or Zac Dawson of Geelong- basically our version of Polec who's running is very important for Port

Great post. I'm a Murdoch fan too. He's always going to be the 20th - 22nd player picked each week but you can't tell me that there aren't premiership players running around with the Tigers and Bulldogs that have just as many if not more limitations to their game than Jordan.

This is the kind of thread where close to every regular in our team will be named within the first 5 pages
Geelong is a very underrated team. Specially guilty am I. Still won't rate us as top quality until we beat Tigers at the G. They are still the team to beat. We are great at Geelong.
BUT Some WCE fan posted yesterday that we have now snuck into being the 4th best VICTORIAN team. He hasn't named the Vic teams ahead of us, but could guess Tigers, Demons and Pies, yet we currently sit 4th.
From all the games I've seen this year, which are multiple every weekend- drives my wife crazy- yesterday's Pies Demonlition was the most impressive. I struggle to see how any team could have stopped that manic running and backing up yesterday. Yet deep in Q4 they were still sprinting off after contests like it was early Q1. I think the Pies outs against us were critical and 2 occurred during the game. I know our outs have been all season and demanding, but Pendles is class, and losing Phillips and Moore in the game... Anyway we now have beaten them tiwce consecutively??
On deeper inspection, who have the Demons really beaten, and how do they stack up against top 4-8 teams?
Still, you can only beat who you're up against.

I'm in the Hawkins camp.

An unabashed fan, for starters, so I'm biased.

I think the list of players you could consider generally underrated are:
Menegola
Duncan
Kolo
Blicavs
Tuohy

There are others that get underrated in some circles but overrated in others.

It feels to me like rating/performance/importance ratio wise, Hawkins is at the top of the tree.

He kicks his 50 goals a season year after year. He takes 2 defenders week after week. He takes 7-10 marks week after week. He sets up goals week after week. Across the last 6 seasons the only key forwards who've rivalled him at all for goal assists are Buddy and Roughead. But both those players have also been absent from the list altogether at times.

It's not so much that he flies under the radar that baffles me - it's that he actually gets criticised.

I read a couple of Facey comments on the club page about how it was 'about time he turned up on saturday' or that he 'needs to get consistent.'

He's kicked 2-4-3-3-3-3 since he was suspended.

Menegola for mine, doesn’t get the attention of the Holy Trinity, or whatever it is being called, but he hits the scoreboard, tackles hard, marks beautifully, and as can be seen by his carrying on to the umpires, genuinely cares about winning games for Geelong.
And also carrying on at himself for making mistakes. He gets annoyed!

When he retires, he will have an assured place in the club's history as one of its best ever full forwards.

In my opinion, he would have an even higher place in the club's history if he had spent his career at CHF, where his field kicking, lead-up marking at full pace, team play and goal creation would (and do, when he plays there) have had far more scope.
