Darren Bennett took the AFL to the NFL, and now Motorola is bringing the NFL to Geelong.

Motorola and the Cats have teamed up for the 2004 season, with the wireless communications giant providing Geelong coaches and bench staff with the latest state-of-the-art communications equipment.

Motorola will supply the Cats with communications headsets -- the same as the ones used by the New England Patriots coaching staff in this year’s Superbowl. They will allow the coaches and match day football staff to conduct multiple and continuous open communication.

Previous technology allowed for only two-way communication, however Motorola’s headsets allow for up to seven coaches and officials to liaise at any time during the game.

“Access to this technology will allow us greater levels of communications throughout a game, and in the heat of the contest that is important to the coaching staff,” Geelong coach Mark Thompson said.

“The Motorola headsets are state of the art and will allow us an advantage over other clubs in the way the coaching staff can communicate with the bench. It’s a great innovation that we can take advantage of.”

Geelong will be the first club to utilise this technology in the AFL.

Geelong chief executive Brian Cook also welcomed Motorola on board as an associate sponsor of the Cats.

“Motorola is a world leaders in wireless communications and the advances the Motorola team has brought to us will keep our coaches at the forefront of technology,” Cook said.

“We also welcome Motorola as an associate sponsor and look forward to a long and mutually beneficial partnership.”

Motorola General Manager –Indirect Business, Paul Guerra, said Motorola was extremely proud to be associated with a club like Geelong.

“We have supplied communications to many industries and, all around the world, we support sporting organisations and back the winners. We know our association with Geelong will take AFL communications to a new level."

Good, bad or doesn't make any difference? Are they giving Geelong any cash?
