Watching the state league game SA vs Vic. There are genuinely over a dozen players who run harder and dispose of the ball better than half of our listed players.

How did we not see how good Riley Bice is. Skill set is off the charts. I would a say a better kick than anyone on our list.

I sent an email wanting to volunteer my services as a scout a few years ago at our club. I was watching a lot of footy already for a state league club and wanted to offer my notes and get my foot in the door to explore what things were like at AFL level. I heard nothing after 2 weeks, so I reached out again - radio silence.

I did the same with 4 other clubs, and received a response from all 4 of them. Two of the clubs I met with and one of them offered me a paid job as a recruiter at AFL level.

Just the courtesy of reaching out and thanking someone for wanting to volunteer their services would be a good start - which we apparently didn't have but other clubs did.

Just curious Souup, have you reached out again more recently? (Wouldn’t blame you if you hadn’t but is it worth again?)

Hasn’t Barlow got a voice in likely draftees - he’d have inside info on vfl/werribee players

25 year old Donovan Toohey from Coburg has started the year on fire in the VFL. 33 disposals per game, 5.5 marks and 3 tackles. Elite kicking, strongly built and knows how to position himself to impact play.

Also a big fan of Billy Cootee in the SANFL, has some dash and is a real beautiful user, he was solid in the state game yesterday.

We don't have a free list spot. The pick is tied to ladder position at the time of the draft.
Teams that have had one list spot open from preseason or a player injured being moved on the long term injury list.

I'm not sure on the rules as to how many numbers you can have on the LTI.
I think they've got to have more than 6 rounds that they will miss with injury to be put on the LTI.
As Nostra said we could technically put CCJ or Brayden George onto the LTI to free up a spot.

While we don't have a pick, here are the potential candidates that have been list so far:

Massimo Raso - Richmond VFL small forward. Previously played for the Western Jets, kicked 3
goals today and kicked another 2 in round 1. Plenty of scope for upside.

Tom McCarthy - Richmond VFL, 24 year old, 187cm dashing half back flanker. Strong run and carry player who also kicks long. Avg 24.3 disposals, along with 4.7 marks across the first 3 matches of the season.

Kobe Ryan - premier ball winner in the SANFL, very unlucky not to have been given a chance yet. Has started off the season on fire averaging over 30 disposals and 5 tackles per game.

Ben Hopkins - North VFL listed half back. Skinny, but only 20 years old and has plenty of potential with his clean kicking, composure and decision making.

Adam Tomlinson - North listed mature age key defender who can play a variety of roles. Decent set of hands, and composed under pressure.

Jack Riding - Werribee VFL listed half/small forward, plays the game with a defensive first focus. Tackles hard and is a goo ground level player. Had a fantastic 2024 season and final series. Played 2 games and avg'd 17.5 disposals and 3 tackles per game.

Zach Banch - Similar player to Riding with good intensity. 22 years old, 173cm. Averaging 13.7 disposals and 3.3 marks per game for Werribee so far this year.

Floyd Burmeister - Overage GWV Rebels tall forward/Ruckman, who stands at 199cm and has an imposing leap. Coordinated for a big man, he can have an impact in both the air and at ground level. Kicked 3.3 in round 2 of the Coates league.

Archer May - 20 year old key forward who is 198cm and 94kg. Previously played 25 odd games for Richmond VFL and was in the Sandringham Coates League side prior to that. Has strong hands and natural forward IQ. has started the year off in the WAFL for the Subiaco senior side kicking bags of 3 and 2 goals along with averaging 16 disposals and 8 marks per game.

Charlie Orchard - Dandy Stingrays overage half back. Intercepts, and provides drive. Rangy 190cm and deceptively quick. Has started off the year averaging just under 20 disposals per game, 5 marks and over 6 rebounds.

Donovan Toohey - Classy half back who can be damaging ball in hand. Has had a stellar start to the VFL season averaging 33.3 disposals, 5.7 marks and 3.3 tackles. A mature body thats ready to go.

Billy Cootee - 22 Norward footballer. Been a consistent state league performer since 19 years old, was previously the Essendon VFL captain. Tough, versatile and classy he can play in a variety of poisitions. Averaging 18 disposals and 5 inside 50's for Norwood this year. Disposal was a stand out in the state league game over the weekend.

Cooper Keogh - 26 year old bullocking ruckman who was previously on the North VFL list. 200cm, big frame and plays a similar style to our very own Tristan Xerri

Would certainly be a fan of a regular method of allocating a list spot/rookie spot each year to take a mature ager from the reserves. I agree with many that we don't do enough with unearthing the talent that is clearly there. Players like Dom Brew I would have loved to see us give a chance too as an example or some of those boys from Werribee that have been recently picked up. Someone said earlier there is often a far greater hunger for players like this to come in throw absolutely everything they have at the opportunity and I completely agree.

Even with the MSD, I'd rather take a player who has been showing consistently positive form in their area of expertise (small forward/mid/back etc) than another 19/20yo who has showed a few signs or could come good with another 4 pre-seasons.

Yep. At the very least they make your VFL side heaps stronger.
